Should Firecrackers Be Banned
There has been much controversy(辩论) over setting off firecrackers during the past decades, with each party owning convincing evidences. Some hold the positive view. They contend that it is an ancient Chinese custom which should be preserved. They also assert that firecrackers make festivals and holiday occasions more colorful and entertaining for both adults and children.
Yet that is not always the case. Others maintain the principal(主要的)points that firecrackers should be banned. They claim that firecrackers are responsible for(引起)fires, which destroy property, and for injuries suffered both by the people who set them off and by innocent bystanders. They argue that firecrackers are a waste of money and resources as well.
Personally, I am convinced that both sides have something right. Actually, firecrackers are supposed to be viewed as a two-edged sword, which presents us with both benefits and troubles. But we ought not to give up eating for fear of choking(因噎废食). The best policy, as I see it, is to maximize their advantages and minimize their unhealthy influences, so that they can be of a benefit to us in a better way.

My View on Fake Commodities
Nobody could have failed to notice the fact that fake commodities have been a grave problem with which we are confronted(面对). Fake commodities flood the markets. Taking a look around, we can find examples too numerous(多)to list: pirated editions(盗版)of books and films, food and drinks of poor quality and the like(类似的).
Fake commodities are bound to generate severe consequences on condition that we keep turning a blind eye to them. First and foremost, they directly infringe upon(侵犯)consumers’ rights, wasting their money and threatening their health and even lives. Furthermore, the production and sale of fake goods cause great losses on the part of (就……而言)honest and lawful producers. Last but not least, the destruction of fake commodities means a grievous(严重的)waste of the nations’ resources.
In view of(鉴于)the seriousness of this problem, effective measures are supposed to be taken with all possible expedition(尽可能快地). On no account can we see the situations become worse and worse. It is high time that the public enhanced their awareness of identifying and refusing sub-standard(不合标准的)commodities. With proper laws and an alert(警觉的)public, it will only be a matter of time for fake goods to become things of the past.

Changes in the Ownership of Houses in China
As indicated in the chart, there have been dramatic changes(日新月异的变化)in the ownership of houses in China during the past decades. While the percentage of state-owned houses has declined from 70% in the 1950s to 20% in the 1990s, that of private houses has soared from 30% to 80% during the same period of time.
A substantial(大量的)number of factors could account for(解释)the significant changes(巨大的变化)in the chart, but the following are the most critical(决定性的)ones. First and foremost, thanks to the policy of reform and opening-up(改革开放), the nation’s economy has been developing at a considerably high speed in the past decades. Therefore people have more extra money to improve their housing. Furthermore, other relevant state policies and the boom of real estate industry(房地产业)provide citizens with more opportunities to choose their own dwelling places(住处). Last but not least, people have attached greater importance to(加入)their quality of life. Thus more of them have purchased houses in their own favor.
In conclusion, the chart is a perfect index(标志)of China’s fast expanding economy and people’s rising standard of life. Although a series of(一系列)problems have arisen in the process, it is reasonable
for us to believe that they can be worked out(解决)in the near future with effective measures taken by both the government and the public.
