So what is rewilding?
Imagine our natural habitats growing instead of shrinking.Imagine species thriving, instead of declining. That's rewilding.Rewilding is ecological restoration and a little bit more.Rewilding offers hope for wildlife, humans and the planet.
Why is rewilding essential for Britain?
●Our ecosystems are broken. The places where you would expect wildlife to thrive have been reduced to wet deserts. The seabed has been damaged and stripped of its living creatures.
●Our wildlife is disappearing. Many wonderful British species have declined catastrophically over the past century. We've lost more of our large mammals than any European country except Ireland.
●We need ke ystone species. These vital species, including top predator(食肉动物),drive ecological processes. Their loss in Britain and around the world has worsened our living systems.
●Nature looks after us.Good ecosystems can provide us with clean air and water, prevent f looding, store carbon, and attract visitors.Rewilding can leave the world in a better state than it is today.
What are challenges?
Our "rewilding britain" is a long-term project.Of course it has its challenges. Many of us feel indifferent, because we have got used to the lack of native forests. Many farmers oppose the idea. They thought it a crazy idea to bring back predators to the country because they would start killing farm animals. It takes time to educate them.Above all, we need money! So we need your help!
Make a donation
Help us bring back Jiving systems and restore wild nature in Britain!
With your help we can...
●Open up new opportunities for rewilding and push for change.
●Develop tools to educate, influence and spread the word.
Thanks for your support.
1、What can we know from the result of rewilding?
A.A lot of species decline.

C.Ecosystems are greatly destroyed.
D.The seabed has been damaged.
2、What's the greatest challenge at present?
A.People's indifference
B.Farmers' opposition
C.Shortage of time
D.A lack of fund
3、What is the purpose of the passage?
A.To persuade people to change their mind.
B.To call on people to make a donation.
C.To convince people to care for predators.
D.To warn people of the bad ecosystem.
22.(8分)Driverless technology will soon enter another major global industry: shipping. Several companies recently announced plans to launch self-sailing ships to improve safety and efficiency.
One of them is the Norwegian chemical company Yara International. Yara has teamed up with another Norwegian company, Kongsberg, to build an autonomous goods ship expected to be launched next year. Kongsberg developed the ship’s electrical technology and autonomous control systems. The ship is fully electric to reduce air pollu tion. It is designed to carry goods containers normally transported by truck. This means the ship will also improve road safety by replacing about 40,000 truck trips a year. The company plans to operate the ships by far-away control beginning sometime next year. By 2020, the ships should be loading and sailing themselves. While Yara’s ships will be limited to Norway at first, the company plans to greatly expand its autonomous shipping operations in the coming years.
Another company putting a high priority (优先) to self-sailing ships is the world’s largest mining company, Australia’s BHP Billiton. The company’s Vice President of Freight, Rashpal Bhatti, recently spoke about the technology in a website post. Bhatti believes automation will be one of the biggest changes for shipping in the future. He said, “Autonomous ships offer important opportunities to improve safety and provide more effective results to the supply chain of the sea.” He added that self-sailing ships could become a reality within the next decade.
Rolls-Royce, the British automobile and engine manufacturer (制造商), is also developing unmanned (无人驾驶的) shipping technologies. Oskar Levander is the company’s head of operations at sea. He said in a conference last year, “This is happening. It’s not if,it’s when.”
Levander said these autonomous ships could be controlled by far-away operators from anywhere. He added, “Because these ships will be designed to be unmanned, they can be built smaller, more efficient and environmentally friendly.”
1、Why have several countries announced plans to produce self-sailing ships?
A.To save money.
B.To develop electrical technology in ships.
C.To compete in autonomous control systems.
D.To make shipping more effective and less risky.
2、How will the Norwegian autonomous ship be developed?
A.On the basis of Rolls-Royce.
B.By a single company independently.
C.By two native companies working together.
D.By taking electrical technology from Australia.
3、What do Oskar Levander’s words suggest in Paragraph 4?
A.It is too early to make autonomous ships.
B.The supply chain of the sea will be busier.
C.People are more concerned about autonomous ships.
D.Unmanned shipping technologies are becoming more mature.
4、What would be the best title for the text?
A.Automation under Sail B.Self-sailing Ships in Use
C.Automation in Some Fields D.Automation in Imagination
23.(8分)If you're thinking about reaching for another biscuit to get you through the working day, think again.Eating unhealthy snacks at your desk makes you pile on almost half a stone a year,a survey has revealed. The waistlines of women suffer the most, with the average female putting on 61b 3oz—the equivalent of a whole dress size—while men see their weight increase by 51b 20z.
The report into our eating habits found that,on average,we eat at least two snacks a day, with 30 percent of us tucking into three or more.Women admit eating more than men, with a further 13 percent of ladies scoffing four or more snacks a day.The research,by The Village Bakery, found biscuits are the most common vice, with 42 percent regularly opening a pack, closely followed by chocolate (38 percent),crisps (32 percent) and cakes (13 percent).
And office workers are worse than most.Cakes and biscuits brought into work by colleagues are one of the main temptations office staff give in to.In addition,33 percent admit reaching for nibbles to cope with stress and 22 percent say they need a sugar rush to perk them up in the afternoon.
Simon Staddon,of The Village Bakery, said:"We were aware time-poor office workers can find it difficult to easily access a nutritional lunch. But we were really shocked by the extent to which 'quick fix' lunches are affecting weight gain and general well-being.Popular mid-afternoon pick-me-ups such as biscuits, chocolate and cakes are high in calories, fat and full of sugar, all of which affect your blood sugar levels and ultimately lead to weight gain."
The survey of 2,000 British men and women suggests we are often ashamed of our unhealthy eating. Twenty-four
percent of Britons admit lying about how many snacks they eat with 33 percent of women lying, compared to 20 percent of men.Unfortunately,it's as if we are not likely to do anything positive to counteract the sweet treats.
1、According to the passage, women usually put weight on first______.
A.on the face B.on the legs
C.on the feet D.in the middle
2、What's the main reason of eating snacks in the office?
A.Colleagues eat them to save money.
B.Staff use them to cope with their lunches.
C.Colleagues often bring them to office.
D.Bosses invite staff to eat them.
3、Why do office workers eat a "quick fix" lunch?
A.Because it has much of nutrition.
B.Because it has little effect on weight gain.
C.Because it has little effect on general well-being.
D.Because they have a short time to have their lunches.
4、It can be inferred that British women are______.
A.less likely to lie on snacks than men
B.more likely to lie on snacks than men
C.more ashamed of eating snacks than men
D.less ashamed of eating snacks than men
24.(8分)There might be as many as 10 million species of complex life on this planet today —— a huge number. But add up all of the complex species that ever lived and some biologists think the grand total would be about five billion. The estimate leads to an astonishing conclusion: a staggering 99% of species are not around any more. They have been driven to extinction.
More species are joining the ranks of the extinct every year. Many scientists believe we are living through an episode of remarkably rapid extinction, on a scale that has been seen only five times in the last half a billion years.
They call this current episode the sixth mass extinction —— a large, global decline in a wide variety of species over a relatively short period of time. And they tend to agree that humans are the main cause.
Over-hunting, overfishing, and human-driven habitat loss are pushing many species to the brink. In fact, we have changed the planet so much that some geologists are now suggesting that we have entered a new phase in Earth’s history; an epoch they call the "Anthropocene". By 2100, it is expected that humans will have caused the extinction of up to
half of the world’s current species.
Because we are living through this extinction, it is relatively easy for us to study the driving forces behind it. But how do we determine what caused other mass die-offs that happened long ago? To do so we have to look at what archaeologists, palaeontologists, geologists and other scientists have concluded from the evidence they have gathered.
The trouble is, those scientists do not always agree with one another —— even about the most recent extinction event. As well as the five-or six- mass extinctions, there have also been many smaller extinctions.
One of these mini extinction events happened towards the end of the Pleistocene, a few tens of thousands of years ago. It is sometimes called the "megafaunal"extinction because many of the species it claimed were particularly large animals, weighing more than 97lb (44kg). However, its cause remains a debate amongst scientists.
1、What can we learn about the sixth mass extinction?
A.Humans are the main cause of it.
B.It means a global decline over a long time.
C.It occurred towards the end of the Pleistocene.
D.Scientists still disagree about the cause of it.
2、What can be inferred from the text about species?
A.99% of species will not be around any more by 2100.
B.By the 22nd century, there will probably be about five million on this planet.
C.About eight years later we will enter what is called the "Anthropocene".
D.It is not easy for us to figure out causes behind the"Anthropocene".
3、Which of the following is closest in meaning to the underlined word in the last paragraph ?
A.Land animals. B.Marine life.
C.Huge animals. D.Flesh-eating creatures.

第二节书面表达(满分25分)
29、Dear Mike,
How are you doing these days?
Aimed at providing a platform where students can have a chance to exchange and make use of their books, the annual campus book fair will soon be held in our school. The fair will attract a huge crowd from the entire school, who are to sell, purchase and exchange their books with their peers.
As a regular visitor, I’ve found myself increasingly drawn by the fair. For one thing, the fair exhibits books of hundreds of types on diverse topics, motivating us to further develop our reading habits and helping to broaden our horizons. For another, most books are sold at a lower price than what the bookstores offer.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions on how to host such a book fair better.
Yours,
Li Hua。
