迷茫的时候，如何修正自己的人生
Hi,eyeryone.
嗨，大家好。

I’m Felicia，that says there.
我是菲利西亚，那里有写。

This is really exciting。

I actually took professor Chun‘s class when I was at Yale。

我以前在耶鲁的时候上过Chun教授的课。

He is awesome。

So，it’s honored to be here.

The past three years of my life have been a whirlwind.
我人生过去的三年跌宕起伏。

I moved three times，I wrote two books，I published one of them, and I actually started my own business.

Three years ago, my life looked incredibly different.
三年前，我的人生和现在大不相同。

I was living in New York City, and I was working full times as an actor.
那时我住在纽约，是一名全职演员。

I had an agent ,I was a member of the Actors Union, and I have just come off being in one
of the biggest musicals of all time, which was “Wicked.”
有一个经纪人，同时我也是演员工会的成员，那是我刚结束有史以来最大的音乐剧之一的演出，叫做《魔法坏女巫》。

Any of you have seen Wicked ? Yeap !

S o,it’s a really big musical.

And on the outside, you know, everything was going great.

If I kept going in this direction ,maybe I could do a lot in theater.
如果我继续朝着这个方向发展，也许可以在剧院大有作为。

And sort of all seemed to be pointing in that one direation.
所有的一切似乎都指着那个方向。

But on the inside, I was wracked with doubt,and I was incredibly scared.
但我的内心却因充满怀疑而饱受折磨，十分害怕。

The reason being, you know, theater and acting was what I have thought, to be my life dream.
原因是，我一直都认为剧院和表演是我的人生梦想。

Ever since I was two, I went to see my first Broadway show, which was ”The phantom of the opera”, claps for “The phantom of the opera.” I don’t know why.
从两岁起，我就看了人生第一场百老汇歌舞剧《歌剧魅影》。

掌声，致敬经典。

我不知道为什么。

I was obsessed with theater. I went to theater camp.
我对戏剧十分着迷，还去了戏剧营。

I woul d sing in the shower, my parents heard me….
我会在洗澡时哼唱，我父母常常能听到
I would sing soundtracks all the time, so I was obsessed.
我会经常哼唱电影金曲，就是很痴迷。

And then,in college, even though I did have a lot of interest, and I actually majored in English, I decided, When I graduated, that I had to go for it, I had to go for the theater because if I didn’t , I would regret it.
后来，我上了大学，虽然我仍然有浓厚的兴趣，但是我的专业是英语，于是我决定毕业后就追逐自己的梦想，我得追逐我的表演梦，因为如果不这么做，我肯定会后悔。

So, I did.
我也这么做了。

And the relative success I had early on with ”Wicked” was very complicated for me.
早期《魔法坏女巫》的相对成功，对我来说百感交集。

Because on the one hand, you know, it was amazing.
因为一方面来说，这个成就确实很棒。

It was the fulfillment of literally a lifelong dream.
可以说是实现了我的人生梦想。

But on the other hand, it made me see pretty quickly that what I have thought was my lifelong dream might not actually be what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
但是另一方面，我快速的意识到我一直以来以为的人生梦想或许并不是我余生想要做的事。

When I was researching this experience, I thought this is a footnote in life,right?
当我回想起这段经历的时候，感觉这像是人生的一个注脚，对吧？
So, you start one place and you end up another, but what we don’t know is talk about that process.
你从一个地方开始，却在另一个地方结束,但我们不知道的是那个过程。

And I wanted to get in the mindset of what that felt like because I am an actor and I wanted to access those emotions.
我想知道那是什么感觉，因为我是演员我想体会这种感觉。

So I pulled up a bunch of the emails I‘ve been writing at that time ,I found the one I wrote to my agent when I finally had made the decision and said something like“Hi David, please cancel all my auditions. I need to take a long br eak from acting. I don’t know whether or not this will be permanent. I’m sorry, but my heart is not in the business. And it doesn’t fulfill me in the way I thought it would. Please know the it is not impulsive but comes after many months of trying to figure out what to do with my life. Sorry if I wasted your time, but this is mu truth.”
我查找了一大堆那时候写的邮件，找到了一封写给经纪人的,那时候我最终下定决心，大概内容是“你好，戴维，请取消我所有的试镜，我需要休息很长一段时间，有可能我不会再表演了。

很抱歉，但是我真的没办法做事，它没有带来想象中的成就感。

我不是一时冲动，二是深思熟虑几个月努力找出自己应该怎么做。

很抱歉浪费了你的时间，但事实就是这样。

“So phew! Even in saying it back now, I kind of like , relieve the feelings of being there.

And it’s a horrible place, right?

To not know what you’re going to be doing with your life.
不知道人生接下来该做什么。

And that horrible thing, my friends, is what I want to talk to you about today.

And that is the process of revision.
这是一个审视修正的过程。

So , the official title of this talk is” There is no final draft: keep revising your life to creat your reality.”
所以这次演讲的题目是“人生没有终稿，不断审视修订，创造属于自己的人生。

So, maybe some of you can relate to what I have just described that feeling of going in one direction or maybe trying to figure out where to go next?
也许有一些人体会过我刚刚所描述的那种一直朝着一个方向或努力寻找未来方向的感觉。

Or maybe some of you are lucky enough to never have been confronted by those feelings of doubt yet.
而另一些人很幸运从未体会过这种迷茫的感觉。

But , just so we are all on the same page , I want to delve into what I mean by recision.
但是因为我们都可能面对相同的问题，所以想深入探讨一下我说的审视修正的意思。

So the first thing that I think of when I think of revision I try to make clear by this visual aid, which is the process of submitting a paper or an essay to a teacher and I know we can all relate to that, and getting it back and then seeing all the nasty red ink on the page, and Xs, and underlines, and the question marks….
提到审视修正我想到的第一件事就是用形象的方式将其阐述清楚，将其比作提交论文或文章给老师的过程，我们都可以理解，作业发下来时，会看到纸上这些令人不快的红墨水，一些错误的标记，划线以及问号等。

And it’s just like the worst feeling to think that you’re completely done with something, but then to read the magins that say “Not quite”, or “Go deeper”, or “Think again.”
当你全心全意投入一件事但是页面批注却写着不太对、再深入一些、重新思考时是最糟糕的感觉。

So, this experience is a microcosm of what I’m talking about on a grander-scale which is a life revision.
这种经历是我探讨的更大规模的人生审视修正的一个微缩版。

So, I wanted to define what I meant by that.
我是想通过这种方式来阐释我的意思。

And a revision in this case means any change that meaningfully alters your day-to-day life in the long term, right?
所以审视修正在这里意味着任何改变你长期生活的有意义的转变。

So ,a revision can be something that is planned in the case of taking a break from acting, I thought about it for many moths-or can be unplanned.
所以，修正可以是计划之中的，比如停止表演休息，我思考了好几个月，或者也可以是意料之外的。

Life sends you so many curve balls, and a lot of times, a revision can be a reaction to that. 生活就像曲线球一样，很多时候，修正是应对这种现实的办法。

Revision can also be at varying degrees.
修正的大小也是各不相同的。

It can be a 180 degree change; that’s very drastic, but I’m not necessarily talking about starting over or completely leveling your life.
可以是180度大转变，但是我探讨的并不是从头再来或者完全平衡生活。

There can be varying degrees.
修正可大可小。

There can be a recalibration or a refocusing.
可能是重新定位和聚焦。

So , that’s what I mean by revision.
这就是我说的审视修正。

And then when I was thinking about giving this talk, I knew that this topic meant a lot to me, but then I thought to myself” OK, so I am talking to everybody as like this expert in revision?” and the answer is, “ Absolutely not.”
当我思考做这个演讲时，我知道这个话题对我来说意义重大,但是我又想到“好吧，那我是不是能像专家一样跟每个人谈论这个话题呢？”回答是，并不是。

I’m not speaking to you as an expert, but I realized that I’m speaking to you as a revision advocate or a revision agent.
我并不是以专家身份演讲，而是意识到自己扮演倡导者和代理人来提出修正这个概念。

And , hopefully, my goal is to encourage you and empower you to be able to embrace this process of change as opposed to be totally freaked out by it.
我希望实现自己的目标，那就是鼓励和动员你们大胆拥抱改变的过程，而不是感到无力和崩溃。

So, that’s where I am coing f rom and in order to do that I figured out I would give you my top three tips for making a revision.
这就是我的出发点，为了实现这个目的，我理出了三个重要的建议来帮助审视修正。

So , my top three tips for making a revison.
回到我说的修正的三个建议
The first has to do with ignoring the odds.
第一个就是忽视命运这种说法。

And that is , if you are innovative, the odds would never be in your favor.
也就是，如果你想要革新，必然会面临失败。

My path in particular has led me to the arts.
我的人生道路使我走向艺术。

I’ve always been really into theater, and now , writing .
我曾经十分痴迷于表演，而现在是写作。

The chances and the statistics of someone actually making a living doing these things were horrible.
通过做这些谋生的几率少之又少
So , I had to get used to ignoring the odds, and completely drowning out the sound of people telling me whether or not this looks like a good prospect for my life.
所以我习惯了忽略命运，并且完全忽视他人的声音关于这些没有好的前景。

And similarly, if you’re contemplating a change of direction, a change in gear that i s unorthodox or innovative, the same is going to be absolutely true for you.
同样的，如果你在思考改变方向，作出非正统或革新的改变，我的做法对你也适用。

You are by definition going against the odds.
你是在与命运反抗。

So , my point is that it’s a sort of an irrelevant data point to think about “ Well, you know, let me consult the statistics on this.”
因此，我认为这么想是徒然的”好吧，那么让我查一下这方面的数据。

And the thing is that people who are about you the most are going to be the ones who are telling you that they’re going to want a more secure life path for you so they are going to point these things out to you, but I would encourage you to really listen to you gut; and when you really consider what step to take next, you just got to just ignore the odds.
并且那些最关心你的人常常会告诉你他们希望你选择一条更安稳的道路，所以会为你指出这些，但是我鼓励大家听从内心的想法，当你想清楚下一步如何走时，自然就忽视可能性。

Because if you go against the grain, you’ll be going against the odds by definition.
因为如果你感到格格不入，就会反抗命运.
That’s mu first tip.
以上就是第一点。

My second tip is that revisions can be terrifying ad stressful, and you will freak out.
第二点就是修正时意见可怕和压力巨大的事，你会感到崩溃。

I thought of a little visual humor for you.
这里有一个搞笑的画面。

So basically I want to tell you guys to embrace the fear aspect.
我最基本的观点就是告诉大家要敢于拥抱恐惧。

And I feel like that this part could lead to 100 TED talks, the aspect of fear, when you are going through any life revision.
我感觉这部分可以衍生出100期TED演讲,当你修正人生目标时,会感到恐惧。

But I didn’t want to bring this up because I feel like it’s such an universal experience and it’s almost so obvious, right?
我不想赘述，因为我感觉这种感觉是共有的而且很明显，对吗？
That change is scary.
改变让人恐惧。

But when I was at first writing the speech, I didn’t think to mention it.
但是我开始写演讲稿时，并没有想到提到它。

Because we have a tendeccy when we’re being, like, polished and talking about a topic and I want to be academic about it, like “ I can talk about how scary it was.”
因为我们有一种倾向，当我们讨论一个话题时，想要用学术的态度对待，比如，我可以谈论恐惧的程度.
When in actuality it was incredibly scary making this huge change.
在现实中做出巨大的改变是十分让人恐惧的。

You would think that sine I’ve been on stage and I like acting, that I have these nerves of steel; but that’s absolutely not true.
你们会觉得我曾经在舞台演出又喜欢表演，所以我胆量很大，但完全不是这样的。

I’m very nervous right now.
我现在很紧张。

I‘ve encountered a lot of anxiety in my life, and particularly involving huge revision.
在生活中我遇到很多焦虑的时刻，特别是做出巨大改变时.
So, I just want to put that out there that everybody freaks out, you freak out , I freak out , we all freak out.
所以我想告诉大家每个人都会恐惧，你我，我们所有人都会恐惧.
The most successful people do，b ut it’s not something that’s really talked about.
最成功的人也会恐惧，但这个并不是我们今天的主题。

There are a bunch of resources out there that can help you if you are currently going through a scary time or if you do in the future.
如果你正在经历恐惧或者将来面临这样的时刻，有大量的资源可以帮助你。

So, my final tip for you is probably the most important tip.

And it is that you can’t decide by thinking, you can only decide by doing.
那就是你不能仅凭思考决定，而是要靠实践检验。

And this one is a really annoying truth because if you’re like me , you like to think things through, you just want to analyze every possible outcome, and that’s great.
这是一个恼人的真相，因为如果你和我一样喜欢想清楚一些事，你想分析出所有可能的结果，这很好
Researching what you want to do with your life or where you want to go is very valuable. 通过调查明白自己想做什么，或者去向何方是很重要的。

Making pro and cons charts, I did that as well.
做优劣对比表格，我也会那样做。

But the fact is ,when it actually comes to making a decision, you’re never going to know how it’s going to turn out until you actually do that thing, till you actually follw though.
但现实是，当你真正需要做决定时，在你这种按照想法实践前，永远不知道会是什么样。

And that’s just true, I have two examples of this.
这就是事实，我有两个相关例子。

And one is when I wrote my first book.
一个是我写第一本书时。

I really wanted to make sure that I would be really good at writing a book before I wrote the book.
在写之前，我很想确认自己是否真的擅长写书。

So , I read all these books on books.
所以我读了所有关于书籍的书。

And I read , you know ,how to writ books.
读了如何写书的书。

But it wasn’t until I actually sat down and I wrote the damn book that I realized that I could do this.
但是知道我真正坐下来，写了之后，才意识到我可以。

This is actually something that fit me, but it was in the doing .
写书的确实我擅长的事，但是这是实践后得出的。

On the flip side, after I wrote my first book, which was actually a non-fiction book, I thought to myself “OK, my next goal is I want to write a young adult novel.”
另一方面，写完第一本书后,这是本非虚构类书籍，我想着“好的，我的下一个目标就是写一本青少年小说。

So ,a similar thing . I read books on young adult novels.
相同的步骤，我读了一些关于青少年小说的书。

I read young adult novels, I watched the Twilight series.

Twice ,no ,just once.
两次，不，就一次。

And so ,you know ,I was like “ You kind of think it through.”

And then it wasn’t till it took about eig ht months, and I wrote 200,000 words that I realized that I actually hate young adult novels.
但是直到我花了大概八个月，写了200000个字后，才发现自己其实讨厌青少年小说。

No , I don’t hate all the young adult novels，but me ,personally, it was not the right fit for me as a writer, and I didn’t know till I actually did it .

So, this is , I think , where you combine the embracing of the fear and ignoring the odds, is just putting that all behind you ,and actually doing it .
所以我想你需要拥抱恐惧，忽略所谓命运和可能性，将这些都抛在脑后，并且付诸实践。

I mean , it sounds simple, but it’s a process.
也就是，说起来容易，但还是要实践。

And it’s ont that I hope I can demystify for you all ,and encourage you to do.
我也希望这一点能够启发并且鼓舞大家.
So ,this is my final slide “ Go forth and revise!”
这就是最后一点了，不停向前，及时修正。

Today, I live in Pennsylvania, and I spend a lot of my time writing.
现在，我住在宾夕法尼亚，花大量时间写作.
I teach voice lessons, I run my own company, I help my fiancé run his company, I do a lot of stuff.
教授声乐课，运营自己的公司，帮助未婚夫管理他的公司，做很多事。

And it suits me for now.
现在的一切都适合我。

So, it’s an ongoing process of revision.
这是一个不断修正的过程。

But it’s such a crucial element of life.
但对人生也十分关键。

I just want you all to go boldly forth, and create positive change for yourself and also for the world.
我希望所有人都大胆向前，为自己和世界创造积极的改变。

It’s a tall order, but I think we can do it ,my friends.
虽然这是一项艰巨的人物，但是我相信我们可以做到。
