名词的数。
(1)可数名词复数的构成:①一般情况下,直接在名词后加-s或-es。
②不规则变化的词需要特别记忆,如man—men,foot—feet,child—children,mouse—mice等。
③有些单词单复数同形,如sheep等。
④一般情况下,复合名词的单复数形式体现在最后一个名词上,如a pencil box—pencil boxes等。
但如果是由man,woman构成的复合名词,其变为复数时,两个词都要变为复数,如a man teacher—men teachers等。
(2)不可数名词数量的表达:不可数名词一般不能用具体的数来计量,但可以和some,any,a lot of,plenty of等词连用。
不可数名词还可以借用量词来表示量的概念,如a piece of news“一则新闻”,two pieces of news“两则新闻”等。

名词所有格。
名词所有格有两种表达形式,一种是名词后加-’s的形式,一种是用“of+名词”的方式表达。
(1)在有生命的名词词尾常加-’s; 以-s构成的复数名词的所有格直接加-’,如the students’ books等。
此外,还用在表示某些时间、距离、国家、城镇等无生命的名词之后,如New Year’s Day,a week’s trip等。
(2)当所属的事物是两者共有的,只在最后一个名词后加-’s;如果表示分别拥有的事物,则两个词的词尾都加-’s。
例如:Mary and Kate’s room玛丽和凯特的房间(两人共住一间房)Li Ping’s and Tom’s cars李平和汤姆的车(两人各有一辆车)(3)一些无生命的名词,其所有格形式一般由of短语来表示,如a map of China等。
(4)-’s所有格和of所有格两种所有格形式结合在一起,构成“of+所有格”形式,即双重所有格。
它通常表示部分观念,即全体中的一部分,在意义上与“one of。
