Teaching Plan for Magic Phonics 1 一.Warm up.
1.Say hello.
Hello, magic boys and magic girls. Welcome to our magic class. I’m your magic teacher, Coco. T: Hello, everyone. Ss: Hello, Coco.
OK, if I say “Magic eyes, magic eyes”, you say “look, look, look”, OK? Everyone show me your hands, please. T: “Magic eyes, magic eyes”, Ss: “look, look, look”.
Now if I say “Magic ears, magic ears”, you say “listen, listen, listen”. Do like this, OK? T: “Magic ears, magic ears”, Ss: “listen, listen, listen”.
If I say “Magic hands, magic hands”, you say “here, here, here” like this, OK? T: “Magic hands, magic hands”, Ss: “here, here, here”.
If I say “Magic body, magic body”, you say “Let’s sing and dance”. T: “Magic body, magic body”, Ss: “Let’s sing and dance”.
OK, now let’s sing and dance. Everyone stand up, please. Follow me.
2. Sing a song. (ABC Egyptian Dance )
3. Review initial/ final consonants.
3.1 Divide groups.
Now look! Here is my magic knife. I’ll divide you into 2 group s. You’re group A, and you’re group B. The winner can get a star. If you have 5 stars, you can get a logo. Are you clear?
3.2 Revision.
3.2.1 Lead-in. (I do you say.)
T: “Magic eyes, magic eyes”, Ss: “look, look, look”.
The teacher does some actions of the initial consonants like S, F, Q, and the Ss should say “s /sə / f /fə /, q /kwə / ”.
3.2.2 Practice. (Flip the cards)
Line 1 T: First, let’s review the initial consonants. Do you remember this? Ss: p /pə/ … to the last consonants.
(Together – Group A & Group B – Boys & Girls – One by one)
Line 3 T: Now, let’s review the final consonants. Can you read this? Ss: p /p/ … to the last consonants.
(Together – Group A & Group B – Boys & Girls – One by one)
Game (I say you flip/ find)
T: Now, let’s play a game. I’ll say a word, like “cat”, you should flip and find the initial consonant “c /kə/”. Can you do this? “Magic hands, magic hands”, Ss: “here, here, here”. T: bad, cap, hat…
T: But this time I want you to find the final consonants. If I say “cat”, you should flip and find “t /t/”, OK? eg: bag, lap, sad…
二.Presentation.
Lead-in T: Please put away your cards, everyone. “Magic eyes, magic eyes”, Ss: “look, look, look”.
T: (do the action of letter A) What’s this letter? Ss: A
T: Today we’re going to learn this letter A here. (T flips the cards to A).
“Magic ears, magic ears”, Ss: “listen, listen, listen”. T: Now let’s listen. Everyone be quiet.
4. Listen to a new sound and some words. (Listen for twice.)
While listening:
First time: T points the letter A and the new words to the Ss;
Second time: T can read together with the recording without any sound, only to show the shape of mouth to the Ss while doing the above actions. After listening:
T: What sound does letter “A” make, A, A, A?
Ss: /æ/, /æ/, /æ/.
T: Everyone, show me your fingers like this, say /æ/.
T: A, A, A? Ss: /æ/, /æ/, /æ/.

5. Read the new sound and some words.
T: Now everyone please read after me. “A, A, A, /æ/, /æ/, /æ/”(Gesture: T extends the right hand to let the Ss follow)
Ss: “A, A, A, /æ/, /æ/, /æ/ ”
T: “ant, ant, ant” (gesture) Ss: “ant, ant, ant”
T: “hat, hat, hat” (gesture) Ss: “hat, hat, hat”
三.Practice.
6. Flip and read.
6.1: Line 2 & 3.
T: (point the third line) Do you remember this?
Ss: p /p/
T: (point to “a” and “p”) /æ/ /p/, /æ/ /p/, /æp/
T: (flip to the second one “b”) This one?
Ss: b /b/
T: (point to “a” and “b”) /æ/ /b/, /æ/ /b/, /æb/
… to the last consonants.
(Together – Group A & Group B – Boys & Girls – One by one)
T: “Magic hands, magic hands”
Ss: “here, here, here”.
T: Everyone show me letter “A”, please. “A, A, A?”
Ss: “/æ/, /æ/, /æ/ ”
T: Now you should flip from the first letter “p” to the last one “nt” and you should read like this:
/æ/ /p/, /æ/ /p/, /æp/; /æ/ /nt/, /æ/ /nt/, /ænt/
I’ll give you 1 minute. Ready? Go! (For the faster Ss, you can ask them to practice again and again.)
PK Game
T: Can you read them now? Let’s play a PK game. This time you should read together with your group members from the first “/æp/” to the last “/ænt/”. If you’re all finished, you can stand up and say “Teacher, me! ”(both teams stand up)T: OK. Let’s read again. If you’re all finished, you
can sit down and say “Teacher, me! ”
6.2: Line 1 & 2、3.
T: Please put away your cards, everyone. “Magic eyes, magic eyes”, Ss: “look, look, look”. (T fixes letter “a”and “t”, then flip the initial consonants “p”) Do you remember this?
Ss: p /pə/
T: /pə/ /æt/, /pə/ /æt/, /pæt/
T: (flip to the second one “b”) This one?
Ss: b /b/
T: (point to “b”, “a” and “t”) /b/ /æt/, /b/ /æt/, /bæt/
… to the last consonants.

T: “Magic hands, magic hands”
Ss: “here, here, here”.
T: Everyone show me /æn/ like this “an”. Are you right?
T: Now you should flip from the first letter “p” to the last one “qu” and you should read like this:
/pə/ /æn/, /pə/ /æn/, /pæn/; /kwə/ /æn/, /kwə/ /æn/, /kwæn/; I’ll give you 1 minute. Ready? Go! (For the faster Ss, you can ask them to practice again and again.)
PK Game
T: Can you read them now? Let’s play a game, OK? Group A, please
show me /æg/ like this “ag”.Are you right? Now you should read together from the first “/pæg/” to the last “/kwæg/”, and I’ll time it. Are you clear? Let’s go!
T: (Group A is done.) Group B, please show me /æm/ like this “am”. Are you right? Now you should also read together from the first “/pæm/” to the last “/kwæm/” and I’ll time it, too. Are you ready? Go!
7. Reading game.
T: Please put away your cards, everyone. “Magic eyes, magic eyes”, Ss: “look, look, look”.
T: Here on my paper are the initial consonants, letter “a”and the final consonants. Can you read them? Who can try? (T can write some prizes and punishments behind the paper to motivate the Ss, like adding/erasing stars, turning around, making faces, etc.)
8. 420 words.
T: “Magic eyes, magic eyes”, Ss: “look, look, look”.
8.1 T: Now you try to read the words by yourself, OK? I’ll give you 1 minute. Go!
8.2 T teaches the words by making simple sentences one by one.
8.3 Ss read after T.
9. Listen and flip/ write.
9.1 Game: The quicker, the winner. (Ss can read the words they see.)
T: Can you read this? Let’s pass it one by one, OK? (T can gradually
speed up to pass the words to the Ss so that they can react and read faster. T: Now can you do this, Group A? I’ll time it. Go!
T: (Group A is finished.) How about you, Group B? Can you try?
9.2 (Ss can flip the words they hear.)
T: “Magic hands, magic hands”
Ss: “here, here, here”.
T: I’ll say some 420 words like “sad”, “map” and you should flip them. 9.3 Game. (Ss can read the words they see and write the words they hear.) T: Now let’s play another game. I want 4 Ss from each group. Who can try? OK! You’re number 1/2/3/4. (choose 4 Ss from each group) You 8 stand up and stand in two lines. In this game, every two students should work together. The first one should speak out the word I show to them and run to the end of the line. Then the second Ss should write down the words they hear on the board and run after the first one. Remember you should put the marker in the circle after using it.
