考研英文二级阅读理解真题考研英文二级阅读理解真题1Text 2While fossil fuels—still generate roughly 85 percent of the world’s energy supply, it’s clearer than ever that the future belongs to renewable sources such as wind and solar. The move to renewables is picking up momentum around the world: They now account for more than half of new power sources going on line. Some growth stems from a commitment by governments and farsighted businesses to fund cleaner energy sources. But increasingly the story is about the plummeting prices of renewables, especially wind and solar. The cost of solar panels has dropped by 80 percent and the cost of wind turbines by close to one-third in the past eight years. In many parts of the world renewable energy is already a principal energy source. In Scotland, for example, wind turbines provide enough electricity to power 95 percent of homes. While the rest of the world takes the lead, notably China and Europe, the United States is also seeing a remarkable shift. In March, for thefirst time, wind and solar power accounted for more than 10 percent of the power generated in the US, reported the US Energy Information Administration.President Trump has underlined fossil fuels—especially coal—as the path to economic growth. In a recent speech in Iowa, he dismissed wind power as an unreliable energy source. But that message did not play well with many in Iowa, where wind turbines dot the fields and provide 36 percent of the state’s electricity generation—and where tech giants like Microsoft are being attracted by the availability of clean energy to power their data centers. The question “What happens when the wind doesn’t blow or the sun doesn’t shine?” has provided a quick put-down for skeptics. But a boost in the storage capacity of batteries is making their ability to keep power flowing around the clock more likely. The advance is driven in part by vehicle manufacturers, who are placing big bets on battery-powered electric vehicles. Although electric cars are still a rarity on roads now, this massive investment could change the picture rapidly in coming years. While there’s a long way to go, the trend lines for renewables are spiking. The pace of change in energy sources appears to bespeeding up—perhaps just in time to have a meaningful effect in slowing climate change. What Washington does—or doesn’t do—to promote alternative energy may mean less and less at a time of a global shift in thought.26. The word “plummeting”(Line 3, Para. 2) is closest in meaning to .[A] stabilizing[B] changing[C] falling[D] rising27. According to Paragraph 3, the use of renewable energy in America .[A] is progressing notably[B] is as extensive as in Europe[C] faces many challenges[D] has proved to be impractical28. It can be learned that in Iowa, .[A] wind is a widely used energy source[B] wind energy has replaced fossil fuels[C] tech giants are investing in clean energy[D] there is a shortage of clean energy supply29. Which of the following is true about clean energy according to Paragraphs 56?[A] Its application has boosted battery storage.[B] It is commonly used in car manufacturing.[C] Its continuous supply is becoming a reality.[D] Its sustainable exploitation will remain difficult.30. It can be inferred from the last paragraph that renewable energy____.[A] will bring the USA closer to other countries.[B] will accelerate global environmental change.[C] is not really encouraged by the USA government.[D] is not competitive enough with regard to its cost.考研英文二级阅读理解真题2Text 2For years, studies have found that first-generation college students-those who do not have a parent with a college degree-lag other students on a range of education achievement factors. Their grades are lower and their dropout rates are higher. But since such students are most likely to advance economically if they succeed in higher education, colleges and universities have pushed for decades to recruit more of them. This has created "a paradox" in that recruiting first-generation students, but then watching many of them fail, means that higher education has "continued to reproduce and widen, rather than close" achievement gap based on social class, according to the depressing beginning of a paper forthcoming in the journal Psychological Sciense. But the article is actually quite optimistic, as it outlines a potential solution to this problem, suggesting that anapproach(which involves a one-hour, next-to-no-cost program) can close 63 percent of the achievement gap(measured by such factors as grades)between first-generation and other students. The authors of the paper are from different universities, and their findins are based on a study involving 147 students(who completed the project)at an unnamed private unive rsity.First generation was defined as not having a parent with a fou r-yearcollege degree Most of the first-generation students(59.1 percent) were recipients of Pell Grants,a federal g rant for undergraduates with financial need, while this was true only for 8.6 percent of the students wit at least one parent with a four-year degree Their thesis-that a relatively modest inte rvention could have a big impact-was based on the view that first-gene ration students may be most lacking not in potential but in practical knowledge about how to deal with the issues that face most college students They cite past resea rch by several authors to show that this is the gap that must be na rrowed to close the achievement gap. Many first-gene ration students"struggle to navigate the middle-class culture of higher education, learn therules of the game, and take advantage of college resou rces," they write And this becomes more of a problem when collages dont talk about the class advantage and disadvantages of different groups of students Because US colleges and universities seldom acknowledge how social class can affect students educational expe rience, many first-gene ration students lack sight about why they a re struggling and do not unde rstand how students like them can improve26. Along with the many folks looking to make a permanent home in the United States came those who had no intention to stay, and 7millin people arrived while about 2 million departed. About a quarter of all Italian immigrants, for exanmle, eventually returned to Italy for good. They even had an affectionate nickname, “uccelli di passaggio,” birds of passage.Today, we are much more rigid about immigrants. We divide nemcomers into two categories: legal or illegal, good or bad. Wehail them as Americans in the making, or our broken immigrantion system and the long political paralysis over how to fix it. We don’t need more categories, but we need to change the way we think about categories. We need to look beyond strick definitions of legal and illegal. To start, we can recognize the new birds of passage, those living and thriving in the gray areas. We might then begin to solve our immigration challenges.Crop pickers, violinists, construction workers, entrepreneurs, engineers, home health-care aides and physicists are among today’s birds of passage. They are energetic participants in a global economy driven by the flow of work, money and ideas .They prefer to come and go as opportunity calls them , They can manage to have a job in one place and a family in another. With or without permission, they straddle laws, jurisdictions and identities with ease. We need them to imagine the United States as a place where they can be productive for a while without committing themselves to staying forever. We need them to feel that home can be both here and there and that they can belong to two nations honorably.Accommodating this new world of people in motion will require new attitudes on both sides of the immigrationbattle .Looking beyond the culture war logic of right or wrong means opening up the middle ground and understanding that managing immigration today requires multiple paths and multiple outcomes. Including some that are not easy to accomplish legally in the existing system.26 “Birds of passage” refers to those who____[A] immigrate across the Atlantic.[B] leave their home countries for good.[C] stay in a foregin temporaily.[D] find permanent jobs overseas.27 It is implied in paragraph 2 that the current immigration stystem in the US____[A] needs new immigrant categories.[B] has loosened control over immigrants.[C] should be adopted to meet challenges.[D] has been fixeed via political means.28 According to the author, today’s birds of passage want___[A] fiancial incentives.[B] a global recognition.[C] opportunities to get regular jobs.[D] the freedom to stay and leave.29 The author suggests that the birds of passage today should be treated __[A] as faithful partners.[B] with economic favors.[C] with regal tolerance.[D] as mighty rivals.30 选出最适合*的标题[A] come and go: big mistake.[B] living and thriving : great risk.[C] with or without : great risk.[D] legal or illegal: big mistake.考研英文二级阅读理解真题4Text 2An article in Scientific America has pointed out that empirical research says that, actually, you think you’re more beautiful than you are. We have a deep-seated need to feel good about ourselves and we naturally employ a number of self-enhancing strategies to research into what the call the “above average effect”, or “illusory superiority”, and shown that, for example, 70% of us rate ourselves as above average in leadership, 93% in driving and 85% at getting on well with others—all obviously statistical impossibilities. We rose tint our memories and put ourselves intoself-affirming situations. We become defensive when criticized, and apply negative stereotypes to others to boost our own esteem, we stalk around thinking we’re hot stuff.Psychologist and behavioral scientist Nicholas Epley oversaw a key studying into self-enhancement and attractiveness. Rather that have people simply rate their beauty compress with others, he asked them to identify an original photogragh of themselves’ from a lineup including versions that had been altered to appear more and less attractive. Visual recognition, reads the study, is “an automatic psychological process occurring rapidly and intuitively with little or no apparent conscious deliberation”. If the subje cts quickly chose a falsely flattering image- which must did- they genuinely believed itwas really how they looked. Epley found no significant gender difference in responses. Nor was there any evidence that, those who self-enhance the must (that is, the participants who thought the most positively doctored picture were real) were doing so to make up for profound insecurities. In fact those who thought that the images higher up the attractiveness scale were real directly corresponded with those who showed other makers for having higher self-esteem. “I don’t think the findings that we having have are any evidence of personal delusion”, says Epley. “It’s a reflection simply of people generally thinking well of themselves’. If you are depressed, you won’t be se lf-enhancing. Knowing the results of Epley ‘s study,it makes sense that why people heat photographs of themselves Viscerally-on one level, they don’t even recognise the person in the picture as themselves, Facebook therefore ,is aself-enhancer’s paradise, where people can share only the most flattering photos, the cream of their wit ,style ,beauty, intellect and lifestyle it’s not that people’s profiles are dishonest, says catalina toma of Wiscon—Madison university ,”but they portray an idealized version of themselves.26. According to the first paragraph, social psychologist have found that ______.[A] our self-ratings are unrealistically high[B] illusory superiority is baseless effect[C] our need for leadership is unnatural[D] self-enhancing strategies are ineffective27. Visual recognition is believed to be people’s______[A] rapid watching[B] conscious choice[C] intuitive response[D] automatic self-defence28. Epley found that people with higher self-esteem tended to______[A] underestimate their insecurities[B] believe in their attractiveness[C] cover up their depressions[D] oversimplify their illusions29.The word “Viscerally”(Line 2,para.5) is closest in meaning to_____.[A]instinctively[B]occasionally[C]particularly[D]aggressively30. It can be inferred that Facebook is self-enhancer’s paradise because people can _____.[A]present their dishonest profiles[B]define their traditional life styles[C]share their intellectual pursuits[D]withhold their unflattering sides。

First-time dog owners may encounter (遇到) many problems getting to know and train their bets. Sometimes a puppy (小狗), or even an older dog, will chew their fingers or bite them. Even in play, this can really hurt. Unfortunately, many bet owners tolerate (容忍) this in a young dog. However when the dog gets larger, it is not fun to be bitten by it. Training a dog fever to place his teeth on human skin or clothing is an important lesson. From now on, if you feel your dog’s teeth while you are playing with him, say “ouch” in a loud voice and move away from him. He will soon learn that when he bites, you will not play with him any more. Another bad habit that many people tolerate in their pets is allowing them to bite and held on to clothing. Don’t let your dog do this to you. When he does something you want him to do, praise him and tell him he’s a good dog. You can also give him a treat at the same time he performs the good behavior. Eventually he will learn which kind of behavior is acceptable and which is not. Remember that reward is more effective than punishment, if you reward your dog when he does what you want him to, he will become very well behaved. Also remember that puppies need to chew on something. So give him a sock with a knot tied in it or an old shoe. If he chews the wrong thing, take it away while saying “No”and give him something he can chew. If dogs are trained well, they will truly be your friends for a lifetime.1.This passage is written to ______.A.show dog owner how to behaveB.teach people how to train dogsC.explain why a dog chews on somethingD.show good dog behaviors正确答案:B解析:文章的第一段教大家如何训练狗改掉咬人的坏毛病;第二段告诉大家如何训练狗改掉爱咬衣物的毛病。

One answer to the question of land shortage was suggested by an organization some years ago. A city was to be built at sea, housing 30,000 people. The suggestion was to shape the city like a harbor (港口). The outer wall of the harbor would stand on steel columns resting on the seabed. Naturally this could only be where the water was fairly shallow. The people would like to live in flats in the fifty-metre high outer wall. The flats would be all face inwards, and would be made of concrete (混凝土) and glass. The glass would be specially made and colored to control the heat and strong light from the sun. The planners called this man-made harbor would be calm. On it would be floating islands carrying more buildings: a hospital, two theaters, a museum, an art exhibition hall and a church. On one of the islands would be a special factory to take the salt out of sea water and turn it into fresh water. People living in the city could move around on small boats driven by electricity, so there would be no air pollution from the burning of gas. There would be platforms outside the man wall for ships bringing supplies. People could also travel to the mainland by motorboat or water plane.1.What was suggested about the construction of a new city at sea?A.The city was to be designed together with a harbor.B.The walls around the city would be made of steel and glass.C.The building of the city would rest on a floating island.D.The people would live in tall buildings surrounded by a wall.正确答案:C 涉及知识点:阅读理解2.How would fresh water be supplied to the city?A.By treating sea water.B.By getting it from the surrounding islands.C.By building a small lake of fresh water inside the city.D.By transporting it from the mainland.正确答案:A 涉及知识点:阅读理解3.The suggestion made by the organization is to solve the problem that______.A.there is not enough space for building cites on landB.land transportation has become increasingly difficultC.there are too many people on landD.present cities are heavily polluted by cars正确答案:A 涉及知识点:阅读理解4.The purpose of the writer is______.A.to suggest how new type of harbor could be built at seaB.to give a description of a new-type cityC.to draw people’s attention to the problem of air pollutionD.to introduce a mew way of building harbor-cities正确答案:B 涉及知识点:阅读理解Taxes (税) are a big part in the United States. Most Americans pay city taxes, state taxes, social security (安全) taxes, sales taxes …and the list seems endless. The biggest tax for most Americans is that on the money they earn—the income tax. The personal income tax is called a “progressive tax”because it takes more from those who earn more. For example, a person who earns about 3,500 dollars a year will pay a tax of only about 3.5% of earning, but of the same person earned 85,000 dollars a year, he would pay an income tax of 35%. Over the years the income tax has become more and more difficult for people to understand. Almost one half of all Americans now have to pay experts to prepare their tax reports in fact, preparing taxes and giving tax advice have become a big industry in America.5.Most Americans pay______.A.taxes which are too many to listB.taxes either to the cities or the states they live inC.so many kinds of taxes that they even don’t know the namesD.several kinds of taxes正确答案:A 涉及知识点:阅读理解6.Social security tax is collected from______.A.those who have broken the lawB.those who often make troubleC.those whose lives and property are in dangerD.every citizen living in the area in question (所在)正确答案:D 涉及知识点:阅读理解7.A “progressive tax” is the tax______.A.collected for social progressB.that increases with each passing yearC.that is collected from those who earn mostD.that varies (变化) according to how much money a person earns正确答案:D 涉及知识点:阅读理解8.Why do almost one half of all Americans have to pay experts?A.Because the list of taxes seems endless.B.Because they would rather spend their time and energy elsewhere.C.Because they find their knowledge about taxes is so limited that they are unable to write tax report all by themselves.D.Because paying experts to prepare their tax report and asking for tax advice have become very popular.正确答案:C 涉及知识点:阅读理解。

Most of us have noticed how important physical setting is to efficiency and fort when we work. Today' s corporations hire human engineering specialists and spend a great deal of time and money to make sure that the physical environments of buildings are fit to the activities of their inhabitants.Similarly, college classroom space should be designed to encourage the activity of critical thinking. We will move into the twenty-first century, but step into almost any college classroom and you will step back in time at least a hundred years. Desks are normally in straight rows, so students can clearly see the teacher but not all their classmates. The assumption behind such an arrangement is obvious:everything important es from the teacher. With a imagination and effort, unless desks are fixed to the floor, the teacher can correct this situation and create space thatencourages interchanges among students. In small or standard sized classes, chairs, desks and tables can be arranged in different ways: circles, U-shapes, or semicircles. The primary goal should be for everyone to be able to see everyone else. Larger classes, particularly those held i.n lecture halls, unfortunately, allow much less flexibility.Arrangement of the classroom should also make it easy to divide students into small groups for discussion or problem-solving exercises. Small classes with malleable desks and tables present no problem. Even in large lecture halls, it is possible for students to turn around and form groups of four to six. Breaking a class into small groups provides more opportunities for students to interact with each other, think out hard, and see how other students' thinking processes operate__all these are the most important elements in developing new modes of critical thinking. In courses that regularly use a small group format, students might be asked to stay in the same small groups throughout the course. A colleague of mine allows students to move around during the first two weeks, until they find a group they are fortable with. He then asks them to stay in the same seat, with the samegroup, from then on. This not only creates a fortable setting for in teraction but helps him learn students' names and faces.1. The expression “step back in time at least a hundred years" ( Para. 2 ) is intended to convey the idea that_________ [ A] college classrooms often remind people of their college lifeB. critical thinking was encouraged even a century agoC. a hundred years ago, desk arrangement in a classroom was quite differentD.there is not much change in the college educational idea over the past hundred years2. The primary purpose of desk rearrangement is_________A. for the teacher to divide students into small groupsB. to make it possible for students to interact with each otherC. for the teacher to find out how students thinkD.to give students more opportunities to practice speaking3. The greatest advantage in allowing each student to find his own group might be that_________A. the teacher saves the trouble in doing that ——B. learning is made fortable in this wayC. the teacher can easily remember students' names andfacesD.brighter students can help slower ones4. Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?A. New kind of desks and chairs should be made.B. Many panies are trying to improve the working settings for their employees.C. Classroom interaction between students is essential to the training of critical thinkingD.A fortable environment leads to higher working efficiency.5. Which of the following arrangements of the classroom can bring about the best teaching effect?A. Arranging the desks in straight rows and providing every minute for the students to listen to the teacher.B. Breaking a class into small groups and letting the students find the group they prefer to stay in.C. Putting the students in larger classes and allowing them to discuss.D.Breaking a class into small groups and asking the students to stay in the fixed groups as the teacher arranges.答案及解析1.D从文章语义推知,过去的100年内,大学教育的方式没有多少改变。

Not everyone in the world requires the same amount of living space. The amount of space a person needs around him is a cultural (文化的) difference, not an economic (经济的) one. Knowing your own psychological (心理的) space needs is important because they strongly affect your choices, including, for example, the number of bedrooms in the home. If you were brought up in a two-child family and both you and your sister or brother had your own bedrooms, the chances are, if you have two children or more, that you also will offer separate (分开的) bedrooms for them. In America, for example, they train people to want to have their own rooms by giving them their own rooms when they are babies. This is very rare in the world. In many other countries, the baby sleeps in the same bed with his parents or in bed near them. The space in the home also shows a lot about psychological space needs. Some families gather closer to each other and the size of their house have nothing to do with it. Others have separate little corners where family members go to be alone. Although it is true that psychological space needs are not decided by economic reasons, they sometimes have to be changed a little because of economic pressures. It is almost impossible, however, to completely change your psychological space needs.1.The first sentence in paragraph 1 “Not everyone in the world requires the same amount of space” means ______.A.no two people need exactly the same amount of living spaceB.living space requirements are not always the sameC.the world requires the same amount of living spaceD.nobody needs a required amount of living space正确答案:B解析:这是一个表示部分否定的句子,意思是“世界上并不是所有的人都需要同样大小的生活空间”。

If the subjects quickly chose a falsely flattering image- which must did- they genuinely believed it was really how they looked. Epley found no significant gender difference in responses. Nor was there any evidence that, those who self-enhance the must (that is, the participants who thought the most positively doctored picture were real) were doing so to make up for profound insecurities. In fact thosewho thought that the images higher up the attractiveness scale were real directly corresponded with those who showed other makers for having higher self-esteem. “I don’t think the findings that we having have are any evidence of personal delusion”, says Epley. “It’s a reflection simply of people generally thinking w ell of themselves’. If you are depressed, you won’t be self-enhancing. Knowing the results of Epley ‘s study,it makes sense that why people heat photographs of themselves Viscerally-on one level, they don’t even recognise the person in the picture as themselves, Facebook therefore ,is a self-enhancer’s paradise, where people can share only the most flattering photos, the cream of their wit ,style ,beauty, intellect and lifestyle it’s not that people’s profiles are dishonest, says catalina toma of Wiscon—Madisonuniversity ,”but they portray an idealized version of themselves.26. It can be inferred that Facebook is self-enhancer’s paradise because people can _____.[A]present their dishonest profiles[B]define their traditional life styles[C]share their intellectual pursuits[D]withhold their unflattering sides英语考研二级阅读理解真题3Text 2A century ago, the immigrants from across the Atlantic inclued settlers and sojourners. We hail them as Americans in the making, or our broken immigrantion system and the long political paralysis over how to fix it. We need them to feel that home can be both here and there and that they can belong to two nations honorably.Accommodating this new world of people in motion will require new attitudes on both sides of the immigration battle .Looking beyond the culture war logic of right or wrong means opening up the middle ground and understanding that managing immigration today requires multiple paths and multiple outcomes. Including some that are not easy to accomplish legally in the existing system.26 “Birds of passage” refers to those who____[A] immigrate across the Atlantic.[B] leave their home countries for good.[C] stay in a foregin temporaily.[D] find permanent jobs overseas.27 It is implied in paragraph 2 that the current immigration stystem in the US____[A] needs new immigrant categories.[B] has loosened control over immigrants.[C] should be adopted to meet challenges.[D] has been fixeed via political means.28 According to the author, today’s birds of passage want___[A] fiancial incentives.[B] a global recognition.[C] opportunities to get regular jobs.[D] the freedom to stay and leave.29 The author suggests that the birds of passage today should be treated __[A] as faithful partners.[B] with economic favors.[C] with regal tolerance.[D] as mighty rivals.30 选出最适合文章的标题[A] come and go: big mistake.[B] living and thriving : great risk.[C] with or without : great risk.[D] legal or illegal: big mistake.英语考研二级阅读理解真题4Text 2When Liam McGee departed as president of Bank of America in August, his explanation was surprisingly straight up. Rather than cloaking his exit in the usual vague excuses, he came right out and said he was leaving “to pursue my goal of running a company.” Broadcasting his ambition was “very much my decision,” McGee says. Within two weeks, he was talking for the first time with the board of Hartford Financial Services Group, which named him CEO and chairman on September 29.McGee says leaving without a position lined up gave him time to reflect on what kind of company he wanted to run. It also sent a clear message to the outside world about his aspirations. And McGee isn‘t alone. In recent weeks the No.2 executives at Avon and American Express quit with the explanation that they were looking for a CEO post. As boards scrutinize succession plans in response to shareholder pressure, executives who don’t get the nod also may wish to move on. A turbulent business environment also has senior managers cautious of letting vague pronouncements cloud their reputations. As the first signs of recovery begin to take hold, deputy chiefs may be more willing to make the jump without a net. In the third quarter, CEO turnover was down 23% from a year ago as nervous boards stuck with the leaders they had, according to Liberum Research. As the economy picks up, opportunities will abound for aspiring leaders. The decision to quit a senior position to look for a better one is unconventional. For years executives and headhunters have adhered to the rule that the most attractive CEO candidates are the ones who must be poached. Says Korn/Ferry senior partner Dennis Carey:“I can‘t think of a single search I’ve done where a board has not instructed me to look at sitting CEOs first.”Those who jumped without a job haven‘t always landed in top positions quickly. Ellen Marram quit as chief of Tropicana a decade age, saying she wanted to be a CEO. It was a year before she became head of a tiny Internet-based commodities exchange. Robert Willumstad left Citigroup in 2023 with ambitions to be a CEO. He finally took that post at a major financial institution three years later. Many recruiters say the old disgrace is fading for top performers. The financial crisis has made it more acceptable to be between jobs or to leave a bad one. “The traditional rule was it‘s safer to stay where you are,but that’s been fundamentally inverted,” says one headhunter. “The people who‘ve been hurt the worst are those who’ve stayed too long.”26. When McGee announced his departure, his manner can best be described as being[A]arrogant.[B]frank.[C]self-centered.[D]impulsive.27. According to Paragraph 2,senior executives‘ quitting may be spurred by[A]their expectation of better financial status.[B]their need to reflect on their private life.[C]their strained relations with the boards.[D]their pursuit of new career goals.28. The word “poached” (Line 3, Paragraph 4) most probably means[A]approved of.[B]attended to.[C]hunted for.[D]guarded against.29. It can be inferred from the last paragraph that[A]top performers used to cling to their posts.[B]loyalty of top performers is getting out-dated.[C]top performers care more about reputations.[D]it‘s safer to stick to the traditional rules.30. Which of the following is the best title for the text?[A]CEOs: Where to Go?[B]CEOs: All the Way Up?[C]Top Managers Jump without a Net[D]The Only Way Out for Top Performers英语考研文档内容到此结束,欢迎大家下载、修改、丰富并分享给更多有需要的人。

Once the king of India fell ill and sent for his doctor. Milk was one of the main human foods long before history was written. It will probably remain one as long as there are animals that give milk. The old word “milk” came from Sanskrit, one of the oldest languages known to man. A very old picture of milking has been found. It was drawn five thousand years ago. In the years long ago, people got their milk from their own animals. But in modem times new inventions made the milk industry a big business. In 1851 Gall Borden found a way to take some of the water out from milk. This made milk keep longer. Four years later, Louis Pasteur introduced a way to kill the bacteria in milk. Next, a special milk bottle was made. This was followed by the invention of machines that could fill bottles with milk. These discoveries had a great effect on the milk industry. They meant that milk could be stored longer. Some people believe that milk drinking will become less popular than it has been. But remember how long milk has been an important food and think of the many ways in which it is useful. It seems safe to say that milk industry will always be important.1.People began to milk animals ______.A.in 1851B.before history was writtenC.five thousand years agoD.in recent years正确答案:B解析:5000年前,就有挤牛奶的图画。

A healthy newborn girl was discovered in Central Park yesterday morning. The baby was abandoned on the top of a rock shortly before dawn after the mother gave birth to her there. The police said that the baby was healthy and weighed 7pounds. Now they were searching for the mother. A policeman said that they had never had anything like this before. They really didn’t get babies left in the park. But they were just happy the baby was all right. The police rushed the baby to a nearby hospital. Fortunately she was OK. The police believed the baby was born less than half an hour before she was discovered. They also believed, judging from the amount of blood found on the rock, that the mother might have given birth there. It was 15 degrees when the baby was found. Detectives were investigating whether the mother was a homeless woman who called a baby rescue hotline early yesterday. The head of Hope Foundation said that his hotline received a call about 5:30 a.m. from a young homeless woman in Manhattan. The caller asked, “How do I get rid of my baby?” She was apparently in labor. Then she was told to go to either a hospital or a fire station. But the woman was afraid she would be recognized there. The head also said that the woman wouldn’t even tell him where he could possibly meet her since they had two teams that could help with the delivery, if necessary.1.When and where was a newborn baby found?A.In a deserted park yesterday.B.In a rock garden early yesterday morning.C.On a rock in Central Park early yesterday morning.D.In lower Manhattan before dawn yesterday.正确答案:C解析:文章第一段的第一句指出:“A healthy newborn girl was discovered in central Park yesterday morning.”即一个健康的新生女婴昨天清晨在中央公园被发现,可以得出正确答案C。

What are some of steps a person can take to prevent his house from being broken into while he is away? One step is to make sure that the house seems a lived-in one. Living room curtains should be pulled down only halfway. Bedrooms that usually have the curtains pulled down at night should be left down. Another is to make sure that all outside locks are the dead-bolt type (双保险). Still another is to leave several 100W lights burning and make sure that one is in the kitchen. Lights that turn on and off by themselves are the best. Then, too, it is a good idea to leave the radio turned on and set to a talking station. Any type of speaking makes a thief think twice before trying to enter. Finally, while away on holiday, make certain that the newspaper is stopped and that a trusted neighbor has been asked to pick up the mail. Thieves are especially quick to notice piled-up newspapers and overfilled mailboxes.1.Why did the writer begin this passage with a question?A.Because he wanted to catch the reader’s attention.B.Because he wanted to have the readers guess the answer before reading.C.Because he wanted to sum up (概括) the topic of the passage.D.Because he wanted to make the reader understand him better.正确答案:A解析:一般来说,以一个问题作为文章的开头主要是设置一个悬念,吸引读者继续往下看。

短文理解In the United States ideas about education are changing. Education today is not just a high school diploma or a college degree. Many grown-ups are not interested in going to college. They are interested in other kinds of learning. For them, learning does not end with a diploma. Continuing education gives these grown-ups the opportunity to increase their knowledge about their own field or to learn about a new field. It also gives them a chance to improve their old skills or to learn new ones. Secretaries, mechanics, drivers and barbers can take classes to improve their own skills. Nurses can take classes to increase their knowledge of nursing. If they know more or learn more, then they can get a better job and earn more money. Continuing education classes give some grown-ups the chances to learn new skills. There is usually a large variety of classes to choose from: typing, nursing, cooking, driving or photography. But only some of the classes are available.1.What is this passage mainly about?A.The ideas about education in the United States.B.Going to college.C.Learning new skills in schools.D.Continuing education in the United States.正确答案:D解析:整篇文章讲述美国继续教育的问题。

What will man be like in the future-in 5000 or even 50,000 years from now? We can only make guesses, of course, but we can be sure that he will be different from what he is today. For man is slowly changing all the time.Let us take an obvious example. Man, even five hundred years ago, was shorter than he is today. Now, on average, men are about three inches taller. Five hundred years is relatively short period of time, so we may assume that man will continue to grow taller. Again, in the modern world we use our brains a great deal. Even so, we still make use of only about 20% of the brains capacity. As time goes on, however, we shall have to use our brains more and more, and eventually we shall need larger ones! This is likely to bring about a physical change to the head, in particular the forehead, will grow larger.Nowadays our eyes are in constant use. In fact, we use them so much that very often they become weaker and we have to wear glasses. But over very long period of time it is likely that mans eyes will grow stronger. On the other hand, we tend to make less use of our arms and legs. These, as a result, are likely to grow weaker. At the sametime, however, our fingers will grow more sensitive because they are used a great deal in modern life. But what about hair? This will probably disappear from the body altogether in course of time because it does not serve a useful purpose any longer. In the future, then, both sexes are likely to be bald.Perhaps all this gives the impression that future man will not be a very attractive creature to look at! This may well be true. All the same, in spite of all these changes, future man will still have a lot in common with use. He will still be a human being, with thoughts and emotions similar to our own.36. The passage mainly tells us that____.A. mans life will be different in the futureB. future man will look quite different from usC. man is growing taller and uglier as time passesD. mans organs functions will be one the wane37. What serves as the evidence that man is changing?A. Man has got stronger eyes now than he ever had.B. Mans hair is getting thinner and thinner.C. Mans arms and legs have become lighter and weaker.D. Man has been growing taller over the past 500 years.38. The change in mans size of forehead is probably because____A. he makes use only 20 % of the brains capacity.B. his brain has grown larger over the past centuries.C. the other 80% of his brain will grow in due time.D. he will use his brain more and more as time goes on.39. What is true about a human being in the future?A. He is hairless because hair is no longer useful.B. He has smaller eyes and wears better glasses.C. His fingers grow weaker because he doesnt have to make use of them.D. He thinks and feels in different way.40. It is implied that ____.A. human beings will become less attractive in the future.B. less use of a bodily organ may lead to its degenerationC. human beings hope for a change in the future lifeD. future life is always predictable.参考答案:36.B. 全文理解题。

If your journey to the UK isn’t too great a distance, for example, you are visiting from Europe, you might want to consider a variety of ways of travel. But if your journey is a long one, in terms of speed, comfort and cost, you should probably just look at flights. Flying is the most obvious way to travel to the UK. Costs can vary greatly so the best advice is to shop around and be flexible (灵活的) about dates and airlines. In particular, students, young travellers and seniors should be able to get special deals. Prices are generally a bit lower if you travel during the week. From about May to October, costs will be very high with the most expensive months from June to September. Costs will also be very high over Christmas and New Year. You could always travel to the UK by ship, for example, you could choose a crossing on a big tourist ship. This would mean that you arrive in the UK in style and without the discomfort caused by time difference, but any long distance journey by ship will be very lengthy and, of course, very expensive compared to flying. Another way to get to the UK by water is to travel by ferry (渡轮). And remember that during busy season you will need to book a place for your car in advance. If you are not travelling from too far away, you might want to consider other choices.1.If you are a tourist from far away, which of the following may be good for you?A.CarB.Ferry.C.Ship.D.Plane.正确答案:D 涉及知识点:阅读理解2.Why should you be flexible about your dates and airlines?A.Because you need best advice.B.Because you may be treated as special guests.C.Because sometimes you can get cheaper tickets.D.Because you do not know about them.正确答案:C 涉及知识点:阅读理解3.From the text we know that ______.A.planes are good only for tourists from EuropeB.planes are more comfortable than tourist shipsC.you can drive your own car to the UK if you take a ferryD.you mustn’t go to the UK by plane during Christmas season正确答案:C 涉及知识点:阅读理解4.What may be talked about in the part following this text?A.Problems of taking a plane.B.Other ways of travel to the UK.C.Reasons for travel to the UK,D.Places near the UK.正确答案:B 涉及知识点:阅读理解When I was about 12 I had an enemy, a girl who liked to point out my shortcomings (缺点). Week by week her list grew: I was skinny, I wasn’t a good student, I was boyish, I talked too loud, and so on. I put up with her as long as I could. At last, with great anger, I ran to my father in tears. He listened to my outburst (爆发) quietly. Then he asked, “Are the things she says true or not?”True? I wanted to know how to strike back. What did truth have to do with it? “Mary, didn’t you ever wonder what you are really like? Well, you now have that girl’s opinion. Go and make a list of everything she said and mark the points that are true. Pay no attention to the other things she said.”I did as he directed and discovered to my surprise that about half the things were true. Some of them I couldn’t change (like being skinny), but a good number I could —and suddenly wanted to —change. For the first time in my life I got a fairly clear picture of myself. I brought the list back to Daddy. He refused to take it. “That’s just for you,” he said. “You know better than anybody else the truth about yourself, once you hear it.
