(1) While I was fishing by the river, I saw an empty boat nearby. (2) The rainstorm came while the boy was walking down the street.

2) 一般过去时与过去进行时用法的比较: 一般过去时表示在过去某个时间发生过的动作或存在的状态, 而过去进行时则表示在过去某一时刻或某一段时间正在进行的动作。

when 和while 的区别
1) 若从句是一个短暂性动作，主句是一个 持续性动作，可用 when 但不用 while： It was raining hard when we arrived.

二、when与while引导的时间状语从句
相同点：when和while均可作连词，意为 “当……的时候”，引导时间状语从句。
1. when的用法
(1) 指时间点，也可指时间段，其从句的谓语动词 既可以是延续性的，也可以是非延续性的。 例句：当交通灯是绿色的时候，你可以过马路。 You can walk across the street when traffic lights are green.

Ask Ss to make sentences one by one with when and while.
E.g.: I was doing the dishes at eight last night. What were you doing while Ms. Xie was doing the dishes?

Step 2 Check homework online
