The device revision and Modbus address are shown in the setup menu.Liquiline CM44x MODBUS® Guideline 2.Modbus protocol2.1.OverviewMODBUS is an open, standardized communication protocol that is used in the areas ofmanufacturing, process and building automation. The Modbus protocol is used for data exchange with intelligent field devices via master/slave (client/server) connections. Here, the Modbus protocol can be used with different transmission media and embedded in other communication protocols. The specifications for the Modbus protocol are freely available on the web site of the Modbus Organization./Additional information specific to devices in the Liquiline 4-wire product family can be found in the following documents:BA444C: Liquiline CM44x Operating instructions (Commissioning).BA445C: Liquiline CM44x Operating instructions (Maintenance & diagnostics).BA450C: Liquiline CM44x Operating instructions (Operation & settings).BA451C: Liquiline CM44x Operating instructions (Calibration).2.2.DefinitionsAbbreviation Name InfoPDU Protocol Data Unit The Modbus specification defines a simple protocol data unit(PDU) that is independent of the underlying communicationlayers.ADU Application Data Unit The Modbus Application Data Unit (ADU) consists of an MBAPheader and the Modbus PDU. The ADU is embedded directlyinto a TCP frame.Broadcast The master sends a command via the global address 0 (broadcastaddress) to all slaves in the fieldbus system. They execute thiscommand without sending an acknowledgment to the master.Broadcast messages are permitted only in conjunction with writefunction codes.Unicast The master sends a request telegram to a slave and waits for itsresponse telegram. Due to its unique bus address (1 to 247), theslave is contacted directly here.Endress+HauserLiquiline CM44x Modbus Guideline V2.02.3.Functional principle2.3.1.GeneralModbus communication (unicast) uses a simple request-response mechanism. There are three different scenarios:If the device (server) receives a valid telegram with a valid request and is able to reply to it, it replies with a response telegram containing the function code of the request. If the device (server) receives an invalid telegram (e.g. CRC error), it does not reply. The application (client) must carry out an error diagnosis once a specified time period (time-out) has elapsed. If the device (server) receives a valid telegram with an invalid request, it replies with a Modbus exception. The application (client) must carry out an error diagnosis.2.3.2.Modbus exception codesIf the MODBUS slave detects an error in the request telegram from the master, it replies to the master with an error message comprising the slave address, function code, error code (exception code) and checksum. To indicate that it is an error message, the leading bit of the returned function code is set. The cause of the error is transmitted to the master via the error code (exception code).Exception code Info01 ILLEGAL_FUNCTIONThe function code sent by the master is not supported by the measuring device (slave).02 ILLEGAL_DATA_ADDRESSThe register addressed by the master is not assigned (i.e. it does not exist), or the lengthof the data queried is too long.03 ILLEGAL_DATA_VALUEThe master attempts to write to a register which allows only read access. The value that appears in the data field is not permitted: e.g. range limits have been exceededor the data format is incorrect.04 SLAVE_DEVICE_FAILUREThe slave has not replied to the request telegram from the master, oran error has occurred while processing the request telegram.2.3.3.Response monitoring (watchdog)The device features configurable response monitoring in order to be able to react to a failure in the Modbus master. This function is described in section 5.3.Endress+HauserLiquiline CM44x MODBUS ® GuidelineEndress+Hauser2.4. ModesThere are three data transmission modes: ASCII, RTU and TCP.2.4.1. This should always be set to 0.Set by the client Copied from therequest into the replyVia the TCP port 502, you can support up to 3 parallel TCP connections with the device simultaneously . Please note the correct structure of the MBAP header.2.5. The register addresses are specified in this document in the same way in which they are transmitted in the Modbus telegrams. It is also customary to use a notation in Modbus applications which counts the register addresses starting with 1. In this case, the (register address – 1) is transmitted in the Modbus telegram.Liquiline CM44x MODBUS ® GuidelineEndress+Hauser3. During this time, the device does not react to any Modbus communication.3.3.2.Non-volatile memoryThe device‘s configuration parameters are saved into a flash memory. It takes approximately 5 seconds after the execution of the write command that the data will be saved. Data consistency is always ensured.3.3.3.Reaction delayThe reaction delay is different depending on the direction of the data flow.Modbus to DeviceReceived data is send without delay to the internal component consuming this data. The internal components have a fixed sampling rate of 3 Hz.Device to ModbusThe reaction delay is defined as the time span between the moment a process value assumes a new value and this value is replied to the Modbus client.T Reaction delay = T1Sensor response time+ T Sensor sampling time + T Modbus response time3.3.1.Sensor sampling timeThe sensor sampling time depends on the number of sensors connected.Number of connected Sensors T f Sampling1-4 333 ms 3 Hz5-8 500 ms 2 Hz1 refer to documentation of sensor3.3.2.Modbus communication latencyThe device is limited to processing one Modbus transaction every 300 ms. Any first Modbus request is replied without delay. The reply to each subsequent request is delayed by 300 ms.If more than one Modbus client is present the performance of the Modbus network can be optimized by requesting information from different Modbus clients in an orderly schedule. The following diagram shows an example for a schedule consisting of one Modbus client and 4 Modbus servers.4.Mounting and wiringPlease refer to the product documentation:BA444C: Liquiline CM44x Operating instructions (Commissioning).missioning5.1.Configuring the Modbus RS485 interface5.1.1.SettingsSetting Factory setting SelectionBus address 247 1 (247)Transmission type RTU RTU, ASCIIBaud rate/bps 19200 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600, 19200, 38400, 57600, 115200Parity Even (1 stop bit) Even (1 stop bit), odd (1 stop bit), none (2 stop bits)Note: If a valid address is configured at the hardware DIP switch, the bus address cannot be modified in the menu.
