Task: Making an announcement
Skills building 1: Preparing materials
1) You can choose an important school or club event to tell people about, for example, basketball match.
2) Think about what is going to happen, who is going to be there, where it is going to be and when it is going to be. For example, championship match against local school team, school basketball team and mystery star player, sports hall, tonight, 7:30 at the end of lesson.
3)Decide where and when you’re going to give the an nouncement and think about your
audience and choose a formal or informal style. For example, teachers and students.
Skills building 2: Writing method
When making an announcement, you can choose the following words and expressions to help you express yourself.
1) Ask for attention: Hey! Listen up! Can I have everyone’s attention, please?
Ladies and gentlemen, may I have your attention, please?
2) Say what your announcement is about: I have a short / long announcement to make.
I have a long list of announcements.
3)Give details: The … will take place in … (on…at…)
4)Show you have finished: That’s all, folks! Thanks for listening.

A possible version to the task
May I have your attention, please? I have an announcement to make. The basketball match will be held in our sports hall tonight. It is a championship match between our school basketball team and mystery star players. The match will begin at 7:30 p.m. All the students and teachers may come to watch it.
Don’t forget. 7:30, tonight. Sports Hall. There’s sure to be a lot of fun. Everyone is welcome.
