Summer has finally arrived. It means kids are surely to go outdoors. It can be exciting for kids and parents to have a great chance to go swimming, picnicking or on adventures. This time of year is also a dangerous time of year as almost half of all injury-related deaths in children happen between May and August. Whether it is in the pool, on bike, out in the sun or in the backyard is always important. Here is some advice on how to keep the family safe over the summer.
Water Safety
At this time of year, drowning deaths among children go up more quickly than the rest of the year.
Never leave your child alone in the water, even in shallow water. A child can drown in as little as one inch of water. Ask your children to take up swimming lessons. Some swim
schools offer class for children as young as 6—months.
Sun Safety
We are lucky enough to live in the Sunshine State, where sun shines year round. But with all the time you and the kids will be spending outdoors this summer, it’s important to protect yourself. Make sure to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen that blocks both UVA and UVB sunlight. Cotton clothing has an estimated(估价,估计)SPF of only 6, so even if your kids are going out wearing T-shirts and shorts make sure they are lathered up(涂上).
Bike Safety
Nothing says summer like a nice neighborhood bike ride. But bikes are not toys and can certainly cause injury. Don’t forget to: Always wear a helmet. Head injuries are reduced by 85 percent when riders wear a helmet and other safety equipment like knee and wrist pads. It’s estimated that 75 percent of bicycle-related deaths could have been prevented with bicycle helmets. When riding on the street, make sure kids understand all riding hand signals, ride with the traffic flow and stay as far right as possible.

An old farmer lived on a farm with his young grandson. Each morning Grandpa was up early to read his Bhagavat Geeta. His grandson wanted to be just like him and tried to imitate him in every way he could.
One day the grandson asked, "Grandpa, I try to read the Bhagavat Geeta just like you but I don't understand it. What good does reading the Bhagavat Geeta do?"
The grandfather quietly turned from putting coal in the stove and replied, "Take this coal basket down to the river and bring me back a basket of water."
The boy did as he was told to, but all the water leaked out (漏出) before he got back to the house. The grandfather laughed and said, "You'll have to move a little faster next time," and sent him back to the river with the basket to try again. This time the boy ran faster, but again the same took place. He told his grandfather that it was impossible to carry water with a basket.
The old man said, " You're just not trying hard enough," So the boy again dipped the basket into the river and ran hard, but when he reached his grandfather the basket was again empty. he said, "See Grandpa, it's useless!"
"So you think it is useless?" The old man said, "Look at the basket."
The boy looked at the basket and for the first time realized that the basket was different. It had been transformed from a dirty old coal basket into a clean one inside and outside.
