Fifteen years ago, I took a summer vacation in Lecce in southern Italy. After climbing up a hill for a panoramic(全景的) view of the blue sea, white buildings and green olive trees, I paused to catch my breath and then positioned myself to take the best photo of this panorama.
Unfortunately, just as I took out my camera, a woman approached from behind, and planted herself right in front of my view. Like me, this woman was here to stop, sigh and appreciate the view.
Patient as I was, after about 15 minutes, my camera scanning the sun and reviewing the shot I would eventually take, I grew frustrated. Was it too much to ask her to move so I could take just one picture of the landscape? Sure, I could have asked her, but something prevented me from doing so. She seemed so content in her observation. I didn’t want to mess with that.
Another 15 minutes passed and I grew bored. The woman was still there. I decided to take the photo anyway. And now when I look at it, I think her presence in the photo is what makes the image interesting. The landscape, beautiful on its own, somehow comes to life and breathes because this woman is engaging with it.
This photo, with the unique beauty that unfolded before me and that woman who “ruined” it, now hangs on a wall in my bedroom. What would she think if she knew that her figure is captured(捕捉) and frozen on some stranger’s bedroom wall?
A bedroom, after all, is a very private space, in which some woman I don’t even know has been immortalized(使…… In some ways, she lives in my house.
Perhaps we all live in each others’ spaces. Perhaps this is what photos are for: to remind us that we all appreciate beauty, that we all share a common desire for pleasure, for connection, for something that is greater than us.
That photo is a reminder, a captured moment, an unspoken conversation between two women, separated only by a thin square of glass.
24. What happened when the author was about to take a photo?
A. Her camera stopped working.
B. A woman blocked her view.
C. Someone asked her to leave.
D. A friend approached from behind.
25. In the author’s opinion, what makes the photo so alive?
A. The rich color of the landscape.
B. The perfect positioning of the camera.
C. The woman’s existence in the photo.
D. The soft sunlight that summer day.
26. The photo on the bedroom wall enables the author to better understand ________.
A. the need to be close to nature
B. the importance of private space
C. the joy of the vacation in Italy
D. the shared passion for beauty
27. The passage can be seen as the author’s reflections upon _______.
A. a particular life experience
B. the pleasure of traveling
C. the art of photography
D. a lost friendship
C
Given that many people's moods (情绪)are regulated by the chemical action of chocolate, it was probably only a matter of time before somebody made the chocolate shop similar to a drug store of Chinese medicine. Looking like a setting from the film Charlie&the Chocolate Factory, Singapore's Chocolate Research Facility (CRF) has over 100 varieties of chocolates. Its founder is Chris Lee who grew up at his parents' corner store with one hand almost always in the jar of sweets.
If the CRF seems to be a smart idea, that's because Lee is not merely a seasoned salesperson but also head of a marketing department that has business relations with big names such as Levi's and Sony. That idea surely results in the imagination at work when it comes to making different flavored(味道)chocolates.
CRF's produce is "green",made within the country and divided into 10 lines, with the Alcohol Series being the most popular. The Exotic Series一with Sichuan pepper, red bean (豆),cheese and other flavors一also does well and is fun to taste. And for chocolate snobs, who think that they have a better knowledge of chocolate than others, the Connoisseur Series uses cocoa beans from Togo, Cuba, Venezuela , and Ghana, among others.
28. What is good about chocolate?
A. It helps improve the state of mind.
B. It works as an effective medicine.
C. It serves as a suitable gift.
D. It strengthens business relations.
29. Why is Chris Lee able to develop his idea of the CRF?
A. He knows the importance of research.
B. He learns from shops of similar types.
C. He has a lot of marketing experience.
D. He has the support of many big names
30. Which line of the CRF produce sells best?
A. The Connoisseur Series.
B. The Exotic Series.
C. The Sichuan Series.
D. The Alcohol Series.
31. The words "chocolate snobs" in Paragraph 3 probably refer to people who_____.
A. look down upon others
B. know little about cocoa beans
C. are particular about chocolate
D. like to try new flavors

GUATEMALA CITY (Reuters)– A fish that lives in mangrove swamps(红树沼泽)
across the Americas can live out of water for months at a time, similar to how animals adapted(适应)to land millions of years ago, a new study shows.
The Magrove Rivulus, a type of small killifish, lives in small pools of water in a certain type of empty nut or even old beer cans in the mangrove swamps of Belize, the United States and Brazil. When their living place dries up, they live on the land in logs(圆木),said Scott T aylor, a researcher at the Brevard Endangered Lands Program in Florida.
The fish, whose scientific name is Rivulus marmoratus, can grow as large as three inches. They group together in logs and breathe air through their skin until they can find water again.
The new scientific discovery came after a trip to Belize.
“We kicked over a log and the fish just came crowding out,” Taylor told Reuters in neighboring Guatgemala by telephone. He said he will make his study on the fish known to the public in an American magazine early next year.
In lab tests, Taylor said he found the fish can live up to 66 days out of water without eating.
Some other fish can live out of water for a short period of time. The walking catfish found in Southeast Asia can stay on land for hours at times, while lungfish found in Australia, Africa and South America can live out of water, but only in an inactive state. But no other known fish can be out of water as long as the Mangrove Rivulus and remain active, according to Patricia Wright, a biologist at Canada’s University of Guelph.
Further studies of the fish may tell how animals changed over time.
“These animals live in conditions s imilar to those that existed millions of years ago, when animals began making the transition(过渡)from water onto land,” Wright said.
32. The Mangrove Rivulus is a type of fish that _______.
A. likes eating nuts
B. prefers living in dry places
C. is the longest living fish on earth
D. can stay alive for two months out of water
33. Who will write up a report on Mangrove Rivulus?
A. Patricia Wright
B. Researchers in Guatemala
C. Scientists from Belize
D. Scott T aylor
34. According to the text, lungfish can________
A. breathe through its skin
B. move freely on dry land
C. remain alive out of water
D. be as active on land as in water
35. What can we say about the discovery of Mangrove Rivulus?
A. It was made quite by accident
B. It was based on a lab test of sea life
C. It was supported by an American magazine
D. It was helped by Patricia Wright

Seeing “correctly s tructured” English

40 . You can read as fast or as slowly as you like. You can read ten pages in 30
minutes, or take one hour to explore just one page. It doesn’t matter. The choice is yours. You cannot easily do this when speaking or listening. This is one of the big advantages of reading because different people work at different speeds.
A. Working at your own speed
B. Learning vocabulary in context(语境)
C. This is not always true when people speak
D. Focusing on what you want to learn
E. You should write down unknown vocabulary in whole sentences

Dear Wang Bing,
I’m glad to receive your letter asking for my advice on how to prepare for the National College Entrance Examination.
Here are a few suggestions. First, it is important to make a plan before you start the general revision and you must carry it out strictly. Then pay more attention to the knowledge you have neglected, analyze your own problems and try to fine out the solutions. Besides, it should be a good idea to take enough exercise, choose nutrition food and don’t stay up too late. A good sleep and physical condition will be a great help for you to have energy to study.
I hope you can make great progress.
Best wishes.

listen to“听到”。
由第二段第四句中“the struggle is part of trap”的提示可知,此处应选用struggle。
由第二段第五句中的“the fly to try hard enough to succeed in...”
5.D 解析thus意为“因而”;so意为“所以”;although意为“虽然”;however意为“然而”。
10 D解析dream“梦想”;think of“考虑”;miss“怀念,错过”;long for“渴望”。
