Robin Freeman, head of one unit at Zoological Society of London’s, said it was clear humanity is eroding the very foundations of life, and argent action is needed. He mentioned, “It’s not just about conservation, it’s about changing production and consumption-and the only way we are going to be able to make laws or call for that is to have these clear measurable targets that ask for recovery of abundance, reduction of extinction risk and the ending of extinctions at Cop 15 in December.”11.What do the data in paragraph 1 show?A.The sixth mass extinction of forests is going down.B.The industrial pollution is becoming more widespread.C.The consumption level is beyond the limits of the earth.D.The decline rate of wildlife populations is beyond the estimation.12.What does the underlined word “akin” mean in paragraph 3?A.Similar.B.Different.C.Contrary.D.Normal. 13.What can we learn from Robin Freeman’s words in paragraph 4?A.Stable land use can prevent the loss of wildlife populations.B.Cop 15 should take the responsibility for biodiversity reduction.C.Making laws for recovery of wildlife abundance seems impossible.D.Changing ways of production and consumption matters in protection.14.What is the best title of the passage?A.Wildlife Faces Great Challenges to SurviveB.All Continents Suffer from Wildlife DisappearanceC.Human Activities Contribute to Wildlife’s Habitat LossD.Animal Numbers Decrease by an Average of 69%under 5 DecadesScientists have long known that a crow (乌鸦)native to New Caledonia is able to use tools. The birds use them to remove food from deep holes. Now, American researchers have discovered a second species of crow with the same ability. They reported on their experimentswith Alala crows, which are from the Hawaiian Islands. In the experiment, the researchers placed pieces of food in holes inside the wood. The holes were too deep for the crows to reach with their beaks(鸟喙). But, by using small pieces of wood held in their beaks, Alala crows quickly got the food. They used small objects as tools, sometimes changing them by shortening too-long sticks. They also made tools from plant materials.“The crows use their beaks as people use thumbs on their hands. Tool use is rare in the animal kingdom. ” said Chritian Rutz of University of St. Andrews. “Current evidence strongly suggests that tool use is part of the species’ natural behavioral pattern(行为模式). These birds had no special training in the study, yet most of them were skilled at handling stick tools. ”Bird experts claim finding out that the crows use tools is important discovery. “It makes us rethink how to look at the whole tool-use idea now and encourages us to go out and look for things that we may have ignored before. ”All the Alala crows left in the world live in Hawaii. There were less than 20 Alalas left in the late 1990s when scientists decided to bring them into a protected area. Now, it is reported that there are over 100 birds living there. Scientists plan to release a small number of the birds back into the wild later.15.What are the findings of American researchers?A.Alala crows can also use tools.B.It’s difficult for birds to look for food.C.New Caledonia is home to some crows.D.The Hawaiian Islands are full of rare birds.16.What can we learn from the study?A.The holes were very big and wide.B.Alala crows could only use short sticks.C.Alala crows got the food by working together.D.Alala crows would deal with tools if necessary.17.What do Chritian Rutz’s words mean?A.Using tools comes naturally to Alala crows.B.Using stick tools is not easy for Alala crows.C.Alala crows’ beaks look like people’s hands.D.Alala crows won’t use tools without being trained.18.What do scientists plan to do with Alala crows?A.Move all of them out of Hawaii.B.Increase the population of them. But a major challenge for exhibitors is to make the experience more attractive without depending on tricks. One local theater, Regal L. A.Live, is experimenting with an idea that managers say strikes the right balance between so-called upgrade and sensory overload. The downtown L. A.theater plans to introduce Immersive Cinema Experience known as ICE technology in one of its auditoriums (礼堂) this fall. The 190-seat auditorium will feature a traditional screen at the front, like any other theater. But the audience will also have five LED screens on both sides that will flood moviegoers’ peripheral (周边的) vision with lights and colors based on what’s playing on the main screen. For example, if you’re watching a scene that takes place in the African desert, the LED might shower the audience with enveloping colors of sky-blue, sun-like yellow sand. But importantly, viewers won’t have to turn their necks to catch any additional onscreen action. “When you’re watching the movie, you actually feel very absorbed in the film,” said Shelby Russell, a manager at L. A.Live. “It strengthens the mood of each of the scenes.”Regal L. A.Live will be the first U.S theater to employ the technology. Managers did not say how much tickets would cost, but like other previous formats such as Imax, they will be more expensive than standard admission.Other cinemas have tried to introduce some other formats as theaters face growing threats from popular media. Results have been mixed, though. 4DX, which uses seat movements, water and scent effects, operates in more than 620 theaters around the world. On the other hand, Barco Escape, a once promising idea for a three-screen theatrical design, failed to catch on. Shelby said the success of ICE theaters in France, where it competes with Imax, indicated well for its U.S. expansion. “The problem with other formats is that they distract the moviegoer from the film,” Shelby said. “ICE appeals to a very large audience.”19.What leads cinemas to experiment with new technology?A.Expensive admission.B.Growing competition.C.Mixed results of previous formats.D.The increasing number of moviegoers. 20.What does ICE use to upgrade cinematic experience?A.Brighter colors.B.Shaking seats.C.Multiple screens.D.Sweet-scented effects.21.How do the audience feel when watching films in an ICE cinema?A.Absorbed in the movie.B.Distracted from the screens. C.Overloaded with excitement.D.Tired from turning their necks. 22.What can we infer from the last paragraph?A.Imax failed to catch on in France.B.ICE looks promising in the U.S. C.Barco Escape is a popular design.D.The use of 4DX is on the decline. In the Shanghai Grand Theatre, a fashionable, mainly young audience applauds enthusiastically as Guo Yong takes center stage. He holds a large bushy tree branch with leaves. Blowing on one of the leaves, he produces a sound like the singing of birds as he plays a traditional Buyi folk song. Some other musicians are also playing the traditional instruments from various ethnic groups in China. It's the first time such music has ever been performed in the Shanghai Grand Theatre. But all this is the efforts of Zhu Zheqin, a Cantonese singer, who has made it her mission to help preserve China's traditional ethnic music.Several years ago, after being appointed as United Nations Development Program Goodwill Ambassador, Zhu traveled through some of China's remotest regions in an attempt to document the traditional music of various minority groups. In the course of the otherfour-month trip, she recorded more than a thousand songs. But she noticed that many of the best musicians were old, and some of the music was at risk of dying out."I was shocked by the beauty of what I heard—it was so good," she says.” But it needed support. I hope to let people see the beauty of these things in the contemporary times. "So Zhu decided to introduce some of the musicians to a wider audience. By doing this, she hopes to rekindle(重新激起)the interest of the younger generation. " Young people don't like this music much; they prefer pop music and love songs. They think these songs are something their grandma sings. This kind of repackaging gives young people a new door into their heritage. ".Zhu believes China needs to look again at its own roots." China today is basically all Western art; in our conservatories Western classical music is the top," she says. "For China to really contribute to the world, we need to go on our own path. So what can represent China today?" The answer, she suggests, is to move from " made in China" to " created in China". 23.What can we learn from the first paragraph?A.The audience is all young people.B.Guo Yong is playing the Buyi folk music.C.Guo Yong is the only minority performer on the stage.D.Tree branches make good musical instruments.24.What can we know about Zhu Zheqin?A.She teaches music in a conservatory.B.She is helping preserve Chinese ethnic music.C.She works as an official in the United Nations.D.She's created all the music for the concert held in Shanghai Grand Theatre.25.What is Zhu Zheqin's idea about Chinese traditional music?A.It is completely out of date.B.Only old musicians play it well.C.It needs changes to attract young people.D.It is quickly dying out.26.What does Zhu Zheqin mean in the last paragraph?A.The traditional music should be repackaged.B.Chinese conservatories shouldn't teach Western music.C.China has contributed a lot to Western art.D.Only the things created in China can be symbols of China.三、七选五What parents should know about childhood cancer.Childhood cancer takes up less than 1% of total cases of cancer. Each class had unique characteristics. In recent years, many writers have begun to speak the 'decline of class' and 'classlesssociety' in Britain. And in modern day consumer society everyone is considered to be middle class. But pronouncing the death of class is too early. A recent wide-ranging society of public opinion found 90 percent of people still placing themselves in particular class; 73 percent agreed that class was still a vital part of British society; and 52 percent thought there were still sharp class differences. Thus, class may not be culturally and politically obvious, yet it remains an important part of British society. Britain seems to have a love of stratification. One unchanging aspect of a British person's class position is accent. The words a person speaks tell her or his class. A study of British accents during 1970s found that a voice sounding like a BBC newsreader was viewed as the most attractive voice. Most people said this accent sounded 'educated' and 'soft'. The accents placed at the bottom in this study, on the other hand, were regional city accents. These accents were seen as 'common' and 'ugly'. However, a similar study of British accents in the US turned these results upside down and placed some regional accents as the most attractive and BBC English as the least. This suggests that British attitudes towards accent have deep roots and are based on class prejudice. In recent years, however, young upper middle-class people in London, have begun to adopt some regional accents, in order to hide their class origins. This is an indication of class becoming unnoticed. However, the 1995 pop song 'Common People' puts forward the view that though a middle-class person may 'want to live like common people' they can never appreciate the reality of a working-class life.10.A recent study of public opinion shows that in modern Britain ________.A.people regard themselves socially differentB.most people belong to middle classC.it is easy to recognize a person’s classD.it is time to end class distinction11.The word “stratification” in Paragraph 3 is closest in meaning to ________. A.variety B.qualification C.authority D.division 12.British attitudes towards accent ________.A.are based on regional statusB.have a long traditionC.are shared by the AmericansD.have changed in recent years13.What is the main idea of the passage?A.The middle class is expandingB.A person’s accent reflects his classC.Class is a key part of British societyD.Each class has unique characteristics.Kids are cool to wear blue jeans and T-shirts today. It is fashionable like that. Fashion refers to the styles of dress that are currently popular. Fashion goes beyond just clothes, though. It’s important for some people to wear only the latest fashions and styles. For others, though, keeping up with trends isn’t that important. The one thing that stays the same with fashion is this: it always changes!During the 1960s and 1970s, Hippies made bell—bottomed blue jeans(喇叭裤)popular. Also, in the 1980s, Michael Jackson made parachute pants(降落伞裤)all the fashion. Now try to find these items in today’s clothing stores!Do you know why fashions change? The answer is probably as simple as the fact that people change. Over time, the new replaces the old. People are influenced greatly by popular culture, including athletes, musicians, movies stars, as well as popular films, television shows, books and music. We are also influenced by the fashion industry’s advertising. The stars of popular culture are always searching for a new angle to maintain(保持)their popularity. Often these new angles come in the form of new clothing or hairstyles. When people see these new styles, they often want to imitate(模仿) their favorite stars. To do so, they seek out the latest fashions to make themselves look like the people they want to imitate. In this way, fashions evolve and change over time.Clothes have been used to separate people into groups for many years. Even today,brand-name, clothing that is more expensive than other types of clothing can be used by some people to make themselves different from others.Unfortunately, this can often have the effect of distancing certain groups from others. An increasing number of self-help books tell us the way to find it. In fact, ___41___ happiness has been called the ultimate goal in life by countless talks, TV shows andnewspaper and magazine columns. However, happiness, as it was before, is still hard to find.US psychologist Ed Diener, author of Happiness: Unlocking the Mysteries of Psychological Wealth, may have the answer:“a combination of life satisfaction and having more positive than negative emotions”. For a good mood, however, kuaile is used more often.Another difference in the ___49___ of happiness, as The Washington Post put it, is that Western countries tend to have quite an “individualistic view of human life”. In China and many other Asian countries, social relationships, with family in ___50___, are one of the most important factors in a person’s well-being.So, are you happy? And what makes you happy?III. 高考英语全国卷模拟试卷
2023年4月16日高中英语作业学校:___________姓名:___________班级:___________考号:___________一、阅读理解The American space agency NASA says a spacecraft has entered the sun’s outermost atmosphere for the first time. Scientists announced that Parker Solar Probe traveled through the solar atmosphere’s outer edge, known as the corona (日冕). They described the entry as a successful touch on the sun.Unlike Earth, the sun does not have a solid surface. Instead, it is a superheated ball of material held together by gravity and magnetic (磁的) forces. The temperature of the corona is so high that the sun’s gravity cannot hold on to it and some solar material escapes from it and goes into space, which causes the solar wind. The solar wind is the flow of charged pieces, known as plasma.Parker Solar Probe was launched in 2018 which mainly studied the solar wind. The sun is actually a magnetic variable star with solar activity happening nearly periodically. Scientists said being able to study the solar wind and the corona close up could help them better understand “the way the activity causes changes to the planet we live on”.“We can actually see the spacecraft flying through the coronal structure during a total solar eclipse (日全食),” Nour Raouafi, the project scientist, said, adding that it took them a few months to examine information from the spacecraft and to confirm the result and that the evidence used included data on magnetic fields and the solar wind, as well as images. Scientists reported Parker Solar Probe successfully went in and out of the corona at least three times. The Parker team said early data also suggested the spacecraft may have entered the corona during its ninth close approach in August, but a further study is needed to make a confirmation. The spacecraft is expected to keep getting closer to the sun and diving deeper into the corona until its final orbit, planned for 2025.1.What do we know about the solar wind from the text?A.It affects the corona’s temperature.B.It functions as the surface of the sun. C.It is caused by magnetic forces.D.It comes from the sun’s outer atmosphere.2.Why did NASA launch Parker Solar Probe?A.To find out why solar activity happens.B.To know how solar activity influences Earth.C.To get more evidence of the solar wind.D.To take measures to control the solar wind.3.What are the scientists’ attitude to their findings?A.Confused.B.Doubtful.C.Cautious.D.Favorable. 4.Which of the following is the best title for the text?A.Spacecraft Touches the Sun for the First TimeB.Parker Uncovers the Secrets of the Solar WindC.NASA Brought New Discoveries about the SunD.Parker Is Designed to Reach the Sun in 2025Dear Dad,Today, I spent a lot of time selecting and reading the Father's Day cards at the shopping mall. They all had a special message that in some way or another reflected how I feel about you. Yet it occurred to me that not a single card said what I really wanted to say to you. You'll soon be 84 years old. Dad, you and I will have had 55 Father's Days together. I haven't always been with you on Father's Day, but I've always been with you in my heart. You know, Dad, there was a time when we were separated by the generation gap. You stood on one side of the great divide and I on the other. The father-daughter conflict shifted into high gear (档位) when you taught me to drive the old Dodge while I decided I would drive the Chevy whether you liked it or not. To my surprise, when the police officer sent me home after you reported the Chevy stolen, you were so tolerant (宽容的) about it because I had thought that would probably be the worst night of my life. Our relationship greatly improved when I married a man you liked, and things really turned around when we began making babies right and left. Somewhere along the line, the generation gap disappeared. I suppose I saw us and our relationship as aging together, rather like a fine wine. But the strangest thing happened last week. I was at a stop sign and I watched as you turned the corner in your car. It didn't immediately occur to me that it was you because the man driving looked so elderly and weak behind the wheel of that huge car. Perhaps I sawyour age for the first time that day.I guess what I'm trying to say, Dad, is what every son and daughter wants to say to their Dad today. Honoring a father on Father's Day is about respect and sharing and acceptance and tolerance and giving and taking. It's about loving someone more than words can say, and it's my wish that it never had to end.I love you, Dad.Love,Jenny 5.We can learn from the text that Jenny and her father________.A.have been getting along very wellB.kept in touch by writing to each otherC.had a hard time understanding each otherD.are separated because of the generation gap6.What rhetorical device is used in the underlined part in Paragraph 3?A.Metaphor.B.Simile.C.Repetition.D.Personification. 7.What made Jenny feel strange when she saw her father last week?A.Mistaking him for someone else.B.Realizing his being old and weak. C.Seeing him driving so slowly.D.Meeting him around the corner. 8.Jenny wrote his father this letter to ________.A.say sorry for the unhappy past B.share her happy moments with him C.express her deep love to him D.remind him of the Father’s DayThe coming Thanksgiving festival in the United States will be the most expensive in years because of high food prices, which are also hurting many of the country's food banks, on which tens of millions of people in the US rely.Nearly every component of the Thanksgiving feast, from the turkey to the disposable roasting pan, after-dinner coffee and pumpkin pie will cost more this year. Labor shortages, higher transportation costs, supply chain disruptions and extreme weather are factors. In addition, Americans are spending more time cooking and eating at home, increasing the demand for foodstuffs.Last month the US consumer price index for food rose 5.3 percent from a year ago, the most since January 2009, the Labor Department reported on Wednesday.“More people are seeking help from food banks, said Brian Greene, president of the Houston Food Bank, the largest Feeding America food bank in the country. Because most of the food in the Houston Food Bank is surplus food from donations, rising food prices have not influenced the agency's food supply greatly,” he said. “The foods that would normally go to the supermarkets are decreasing, but on the other hand, for the foods that are going to the restaurants, we have a huge increase there.”“We are seeing price increase from our vendors of between 2 percent to 10 percent for some items,” said Paule Pachter, chief executive of Long Island Cares-The Harry Chapin Food Bank. “The agency provides food and support services for a network of more than 374 community-based member agencie. The increase in food prices is causing more people to seek help from food pantries, but food donations are decreasing,” Pachter said. Food banks are seeing increasing “donor fatigue”, and more donors are willing to volunteer rather than make continuous donations of food. “We are experiencing a significant decrease in the total amount of food donations being made to the regional food bank. As of Sept 30 food donated through food drives is down by 20 percent compared with the same time in 2020. We are seeing a decrease in both in-person and virtual food drives being hosted this year.”As food prices rose, the administration of US President Joe Biden announced an increase to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program in August.9.What is the main idea of the second paragraph?A.What factors have a big influence on Americans' life.B.What causes the Thanksgiving feast to be more expensive.C.What component of the Thanksgiving feast will cost more.D.What leads to Americans' spending more time cooking at home.10.What does the underlined word "surplus" in para. 4 mean?A.More than what is saved.B.More than what is sold.C.More than what is needed.D.More than what is wasted.11.What can we infer from Para. 5?A.Donors are less willing to volunteer at Food banks.B.People are less willing to make continuous donations of food.C.A decrease in in-person drives is greater than that in virtual drives.D.The increase in food prices is causing fewer people to seek help.12.What can be the best title for the news report?A.Rising prices dampen Thanksgiving moodB.US consumer price index for food rises 5.3 percentC.Tens of millions of people in US rely on food banksD.Some Americans are to suffer during coming ThanksgivingThe Red Bicycle is a storybook about a bicycle’s journey from North America to the countryside in West Africa. I know I lack the necessary DIY skills, but luckily there are numerous books and online videos that will hopefully give me the information I need. Publications that help us to help ourselves are nothing new, but the range of them is increasing with advice being given far beyond practical tasks around the house.Bookshops these days are full of titles which claim to boost your self-confidence, your wealth, your love life or your career. Some claim to improve your life within seven days! It's big business and it's thought that the self-help industry is worth $10bn in the US alone. The first self-help book called 'How to Win Friends and Influence People' was published in 1936, and has since sold 30 million copies and is still popular now. It includes guidance on how to make people like you and how to make your life happier. It might seem strange to think that we need a book to tell us how to live our lives but self-help books remain a go to remedy for those of us looking for enlightenment. There are, of course, trends in what we need help with. Emma Marshall, who works at British bookshop Waterstones, says “at the moment we're in the tidying up, getting rid of things trend... I think the trend right now is about slowing down in your life." It seems there is always something we need help with, and reading about it can be very therapeutic - it makes us feel good, even if we don't do anything about it.Of course, the internet has become the place to go to for salvation. We've got used to searching for solutions online, and now these solutions even include how to fix or improve our lives. Interestingly, psychologist Caroline Beaton, says people called 'millennials' are self-critical —they are aware of their own faults —which also means they're more likely to spend time and money on self-help. There's also a theory that the self-help industry does well during a recession —people are perhaps even more likely to reach for self-help to improve their situation.Whatever the reason for the continued interest in self-help, it's good to know help is at hand when we need it. The alternative to finding a happier life is just to come to terms with yourself as you are -I know, I read about it in a book! Do you believe in self-help books?4. Where else can you get self-help advice apart from books?A.From teachersB.From friendsC.From the InternetD.From parents5.What do you know about self-books?A.They may offer you some keys to success.B.They hasn't gained great popularity.C.All of us enjoy them very much.D.They can certainly improve your life within seven days.6. What can we infer from the passage?A.People don't have interest in self-help books.B.Accepting yourself as you are makes you happier.C.The self-help industry makes little difference during a recession.D.The current trend in self-help books is about rushing around and taking things easier.CIt used to be mostly the military that used small, unpiloted aircraft, called “drones”. The little planes were very costly. But as they have dropped in price more people have begun to use them. Rescue workers and farmers are among the new users. The fast rate of the development of computer technology, image sensing devices, satellite navigation (卫星导航) and smartphones has led to lower-priced drones. Researchers and developers have learned how to build smaller and less-costly drones. Moviemakers are using drones to film from the sky. Historians use them when they explore ancient buildings. Rescue workers use them to look for people. And now farmers are using them to monitor their crops.Romain Faroux is a French businessman who starts companies. His father was a farmer. He believed drones could help farmers. He helped create a company that developed a small drone that could be controlled by peopl e on the ground. They called it “Agridrone”. It uses a special “optical sensor (光学传感器)” to examine crops. The technology used is similar to that used by smartphones—except it has wings. A computer program directs the drone to fly over the crops. The sensor on the drone records four different-colored “bands”of sunlight that are reflected off the crops.Jean-Baptiste Bruggeman is a farmer. He says the drone flies over his crops at different times of the season. This provides a lot of information about his crops. The drone pictures show him the exact amount of fertilizer the crops need. It also shows exactly where the fertilizer is needed.Romain Faroux says farmers use information collected by the Agridrone to place fertilizer only in areas where it is needed. This saves money and reduces pollution. Before they used the drones, farmers would put the same amount of fertilizer everywhere. Drones also save time because farmers can examine up to three hectare (公顷) in about a minute.8.Why do rescue workers and farmers begin to use drones?A.Drones can monitor their cattle.B.Drones’ prices have dropped.C.Drones can help them get more business.D.Drones’ sizes become smaller.9.What can the drones developed by Romain Farour’s company do?A.Explore ancient buildings.B.Put fertilizer on the crops.C.Help farmers examine their crops.D.Help rescue workers look for people.10.What can the sensor on the drone do?A.Help the sunlight shine on the crops.B.Direct the plane to fly over the crops.C.Examine the different colors of the crops.D.Record the sunlight reflected off the crops.11.According to the text, the use of the drone is __________.A.environment-friendlyB.wastefulC.costlyD.safeDScientists often compare coral reefs(珊瑚礁) to underwater rainforests, yet unlike the leafy plant base of a forest, corals are animals. The soft creatures are naturally half-transparent and get their brilliant color from algae(藻类) living inside them. When corals experience stress from hot temperatures or pollution, they halt the interdependent relationship with algae, typically pushingthem out and turning white. Corals are still alive when they are white, but they're at risk and many eventually die, turning dark brown.Scientists around the world are looking for means to protect and maybe increase corals. One common option is to create more protected areas — essentially national parks in the ocean. Beyond nature preserves, some conservationists are looking to more hands-on methods. One research center in the Florida Keys is exploring a form of natural selection to keep corals remaining. The reef system in the Keys has been hit hard by climate change and pollution, which is especially tough, because corals there help support fisheries worth $ 100 million every year.To keep the wild ecosystem alive, Erinn Muller, the center's director, and her team are harvesting samples of the corals that survived the environmental stress naturally, keeping them to make them reproduce, and then reattaching them to the reef. They have 46,000 corals on plastic frames under the sea. So far, the center has regrown over 70,000 corals from five different species on damaged reefs. In The Bahamas, Ross Cunning, a research biologist at Chicago's Shedd Aquarium, focuses on corals with genes that could make them natural candidates for restoration projects. He published a study of two Bahamian reefs, one that survived an extreme 2015 heat wave, and one that didn't. "We think their ability to deal with these higher temperatures is built into their genes," says Cunning. There's evidence of corals evolving more quickly to resist rapidly warming climate. The big question scientists need investigate, adds Gunning, is how much more heat corals can adapt to.12. What does the underlined word "halt" in the first paragraph mean?A. End.B. Develop.C. Strengthen.D. Weaken.13. What do Muller and her team do to save corals?A. Restore the damaged reefs.B. Grow corals by hand underwater.C. Create more protected areas.D. Move corals to unpolluted areas.14. What do Cunning's words suggest?A. Many corals have been genetically improved.B. Cooling down the waters is key to rescuing corals.C. Reasons for corals surviving heat waves are shocking.D. The highest temperature corals can survive is unclear.15. Which can be a suitable title for the text?A. Relationship between corals and algaeB. Wang said the team is working on applications for the rice in different areas, seasons and using different farming techniques. “It’s still far away from mass application, but at least we see the light of hope.”Human-induced methane, though less abundant than carbon dioxide in the air, is responsible for 20 percent of the global warming effect. Rice paddies are the largest single source of methane linked to human activity. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, China produces 209 million tons of rice in 2014, or 28 percent of the world’s total of 734 million.33.SUSIBA2 Rice will be a ma jor breakthrough because______.A.it tastes with a barley flavor.<B.it well balances environmental protection and grains increase.C.it contains more starch than the ordinary rice.D.it gives off less methane in summer than in winter.34.What can we learn from the textA.Scientists will soon grow the new rice in large areas.B.Human-related methane contributes most to global warming.C.China may contribute greatly to global warming reduction.D.Rice fields will be reduced all over the world.·35.The purpose of this writing is to________.A.ask people to cut down on their dependence on rice consumption.B.draw people’s attention to the serious consequences of global warming.
