You can control external devices such as microwave switches, attenuators, solenoids, and power relays. Or use the digital inputs to sense limit-switch and digital-bus status.Optimized for test systemsThe 34980A has the performance you need for medium- to high-density switching/measurement applications such as design verification, functional test and data acquisition. Your signals are switched to the right measurement device without compromising signal integrity. Switch your signals to the optional internal DMM and achieve optimal throughput on switch closure time. Or, if you prefer, you can easily connect to external instruments such as DMMs, scopes, power supplies, and more. What’s more, with the built-in Ethernet interface, you can control the 34980A and collect data from anywhere on the network. The rugged instrument comes with a variety of system-ready features:• Web browser interface shows settings at a glance and provides remote access and control• Self-guiding front panel to configure, troubleshoot or view data • Low EMI and efficient system cooling• Heavy-duty cabling and connection options• Flexible rack mounting options • Relay counters help predict end-of-life• In-rack calibration for reduced maintenance time• DMM measurement accuracies include the switch for simple calculationsMake system connections easily and quickly with simple, reliable connection options:• Built-in Ethernet, USB 2.0, and GPIB connectivity• Low-cost, standard 50- or 78-pin Dsub connectors and cables • Detachable terminal blocks with strain relief• Mass interconnect solutions In addition, the 34980A comes with Agilent IO Libraries Suite. Quickly establish an error-free connection between your PC and instruments—regardless of vendor. The IO Libraries provide robust instrument control and work with the software development environment you choose.2High-performance unit provides low-cost alternative to PXI and VXI switch and measurement platformsEasier signal routingwith four2-wire internal analog buses. You can route your measurements directly to the internal DMM, or you can connect to external instruments through the analog bus connector on the rear of the mainframe. And since you have four 2-wire buses, you can dedicate one bus for use with the internal DMM and use the other three buses for module extensions or additional signal routing between modules, reducing your wiring needs. You can define up to 500 switch sequences to control complex signal routing and the order ofswitch closures. Assign a sequence, give it a name and then execute it with the name you created. Switch sequences are downloaded and stored in the instrument for ease of programming and increased throughput.External trigger capabilities make it easy for you to time and synchronize measurements and other events. This can help you determine when to begin or end an acquisition.Measurements you can trustGet proven performance from Agilent instruments, with the resolution, repeatability, speed, and accuracy you’ve come to expect. The 34980A offers built-in signal conditioning and modular flexibility. When you use it with the internalDMM, you can configure each channel independently for the measurements you choose. It includes a variety of features that give you confidence in your measurements:• 61⁄2 digits of resolution with .004% of accuracy with DC voltage measurements• Alarms per channel—high limit, low limit, or both• Math functions—use Mx+B for custom linear conversions and converting raw inputs• Built-in thermocouple reference for temperature measurements (34921T)• Time-stamped readings• Add more formulas with BenchLink Data Logger SoftwareThe integrated DMM is mounted inside the mainframe and does not consume any of the eight user-available slots. You can access the DMM through any switch module that connects to the analog bus, or directly from the analog bus connector on the rear of the mainframe. The internal DMM gives you the flexibility to measure 11 types of inputs:• Temperature with thermocouples, RTDs, or thermistors (with 34921A)• DC and AC voltage • 2- and 4-wire resistance • Frequency and period • DC and AC currentYou can control the DMM directly, or configure it to work in conjunction with the switches. Each switch chan-nel can be configured independently for measurement functions, scale factors and alarm limits. Advanced measurement features such as offset compensation, variable integration time, and delay are also selectable on a per-channel basis. The DMM inputs are shielded and optically isolated from the 34980A’s earth-referenced circuitry andcomputer interface, and as a result, you get up to 300 V of input isola-tion. This is important for reducing ground-loops and common-mode voltage errors associated with long wiring runs and floating sources.Simple DMM calibration isaccomplished with just the analog bus connection on the rear panel of the mainframe. You don’t need to remove the mainframe from the rack or dedicate a channel for calibration.Modules provide flexible system stimulus and controlSystem control —with analog outputs, open-collector digital outputs, clock generation, and isolated Form-Crelays for controlling external devices. Additionally, with the microwave switch/attenuator driver, high-frequency switches and attenuators can be efficiently controlled external to the 34980A mainframe.Analog sources —output eithervoltage or current. You can configure the 4-channel isolated D/A converter as a point-to-point arbitrary wave-form generator that lets you define up to 500,000 points per waveform.Digital patterns —send or receive digital data from your device under test. With on-board memory you can output communication protocols and bit streams or monitor digital input patterns and interrupt when a user-defined pattern is detected.35Free BenchLink Data Logger Software to Simplify data loggingThe BenchLink Data Logger software for the 34980A provides a convenient way to collect and analyze your data. It contains eight channels of a variable gain amplifier (VGA) with a low noise preamplifier (LNA), an antialiasing filter (AAF), an analog-to-digital converter (ADC), and an I/Q demodulator with programmable phase rotation. Each channel features a variable gain range of 45 dB, a fully differential signal path, an active input preamplifier termination, and a maximum gain of up to 51 dB. The channel is optimized for high dynamic performance and low power in applications where a small package size is critical. The LNA has a single-ended-to-differential gain that is selectable through the SPI. Assuming a 15 MHz noise bandwidth (NBW) and a 21.3 dB LNA gain, the LNA input SNR is roughly 88 dB. In CW Doppler mode, each LNA output drives an I/Q demod-ulator that has independently programmable phase rotation with 16 phase settings.Power-down of individual channels is supported to increase battery life for portable applications. Standby mode allows quick power-up for power cycling. In CW Doppler operation, the VGA, AAF, and ADC are powered down. The ADC contains several features designed to maximize flexibility and minimize system cost, such as a programmable clock, data alignment, and programmable digital test pattern generation. The digital test patterns include built-in fixed patterns, built-in pseudo random patterns, and custom user-defined test patterns entered via the serial port interface.FUNCTIONAL BLOCK DIAGRAMC L K –C L K +S D I S C L C S BG P O [0:3R B I A SV R E FC W Q C W Q C W I C W I G A I N G A I N 4L O 4L O R E S E T09424-001Figure 1.AD9278Data SheetRev. DATA SHEETCoating Thickness Material AnalysisFISCHERSCOPE® X-RAY XDL® 210 FISCHERSCOPE® X-RAY XDL® 220 FISCHERSCOPE® X-RAY XDL® 230 FISCHERSCOPE® X-RAY XDL® 240X-ray fluorescence spectrometer for manual or automated coating thickness measurements on protective and decorative coatings, mass-produced parts and pc-boardsFISCHERSCOPE X-RAY2 FISCHERSCOPE X-RAY XDLDescriptionThe FISCHERSCOPE ®-X-RAY XDL ® instruments are universally applicable energy-dispersive x-ray spectrometers. They represent the next step in the development of the proven FISCHERSCOPE X-RAY XDL-B model series. Like their predecessors, they are particularly well suited for non-destructive thickness measurements and analysis of thin coatings, for measurements on mass-produced parts and pc-boards as well as for the solution analysis.A high count rate is achieved by using a proportional counter tube, which allows for precise measurements. Using the Fischer fundamental parameter method, coating systems as well as solid and liquid samples can be analyzed standard-free. It is possible to detect up to 24 elements in the range from chlorine (17) to uranium (92) simultaneously. The XDL x-ray spectrometers have an excellent long-term stability, which among other things is reflected in a significantly reduced calibration effort. The instruments of the XDL series are especially well suited for measurements in quality assurance, reception inspection and production monitoring. Typical areas of application are:∙ Measurement of electro-plated mass-produced parts ∙ Inspection of thin coatings, e.g., decorative chromium-plating ∙ Analysis of functional coatings in the electronics and semiconductor industries∙ Automated measurements, e.g., on pc-boards ∙Solution analysis in the electroplatingDesignThe FISCHERSCOPE X-RAY XDL spectrometers are designed as user-friendly bench-top instruments. According to the intended use, different versions are available with different support stages and with fixed or adjustable Z-axis. XDL 210: Plane support stage, fixed Z-axis XDL 220: Plane support stage, motor-driven Z-axis XDL 230: Manually operable X/Y stage, motor-driven Z-axisXDL 240: Motor-driven X/Y stage that moves into the loading position automatically, when the protective hood is opened. Motor-drivenZ-axis with two speedsA high-resolution color video camera with powerful magnification simplifies the precise determination of the measurement location and visualizes the measurement procedure in process. In models equipped with a X/Y stage a laser pointer serves as a positioning aid and supports the quick alignment of the sample to be measured.A gap in the housing allows for measurements on large flat specimens, which do not fit in the measuring chamber, e.g. large pc-boards.The entire operation, the evaluation of the measurement as well as the clear presentation of the measurement data is done on a PC using the powerful and user-friendly WinFTM ® software.XDL spectrometers are fully protected instruments with type approval according to the German regulations …Deutsche Röntgenverordnung-RöV“.XDL3General SpecificationsIntended use Energy dispersive x-ray fluorescence spectrometer (EDXRF) to determine thin coatings and for the solution analysis.Element range Chlorine Cl (17) to Uranium U (92) – up to 24 elements simultaneously DesignBench-top unit with hood opening upwards Measuring direction From top to bottomX-ray sourceX-ray source Tungsten tube with beryllium window High voltage Adjustable 30 kV, 40 kV, 50 kVAperture (collimator) Ø 0.3 mm (optional Ø 0.1 mm, Ø 0.2 mm, slot 0.3 mm x 0.05 mm)Measurement spotDepending on the measuring distance and on the aperture, the actual measurement spot size is shown in the video image.Smallest measurement spot: approx.
