frequency range of30MHz to1.5GHz.These limits are not exact,but are based on decreasing displacement current due to decreased capacitive coupling at lower frequencies and on overmoding (excitation of modes other than the transverse electromagnetic mode(TEM))at higher frequencies for the size of specimen holder described in this test method.Any number of discrete frequencies may be selected within materials under normal incidence,far-field,plane-wave conditions(E and H tangential to the surface of the material).4.2The uncertainty of the measured SE values is a function of material,mismatches throughout the transmission line path, dynamic range of the measurement system,and the accuracy of the ancillary equipment.An uncertainty analysis is given in Appendix X1to illustrate the uncertainty that may be achieved by an experienced operator using good equipment.Deviations from the procedure in this test method will increase this uncertainty.4.3Approximate near-field values of SE may be calculated for both E or H sources by using measured values of far-field SE.A program may be generated from the source code in Appendix X2that is suitable for use on a personal computer.4.4This test method measures the net SE caused by reflection and absorption.Separate measurement of reflected and absorbed power may be accomplished by the addition of a calibrated bidirectional coupler to the input of the holder.5.Apparatus5.1A basic equipment setup is shown in Fig.1.5.2Specimen Holder—Physical dimensions of a specimen holder are given in the annex.The specimen holder is an enlarged,coaxial transmission line with special taper sections and notched matching grooves to maintain a characteristic impedance of50V throughout the entire length of the holder. This impedance is checked in accordance with7.1,and any variations greater than60.5V are corrected.There are three important aspects to this design.First,a pair offlanges in the middle of the structure hold the specimen.This allows capaci-tive coupling of energy into insulating materials through displacement current.Second,a reference specimen of the same thickness and electrical properties as the load specimen causes the same discontinuity in the transmission line as is caused by the load specimen.Third,non-conductive(nylon) screws are used to connect the two sections of the holder together during tests.This prevents conduction currents from dominating the desired displacement currents necessary for the correct operation of this specimen holder.5.3Signal Generator—A source capable of generating a sinusoidal signal over the desired portion of the frequency range specified in1.2.A50-V output impedance is needed to minimize reflections due to mismatches.Precision step attenu-ators are useful in increasing the effective dynamic range for SE measurements.5.4Receiver—A device with a50-V input impedance ca-pable of measuring signals over the same frequency range as the signal generator in5.3.A wide dynamic range is desirable in order to achieve a wide dynamic range of measured SE values.Typically,either a spectrum analyzer or afield intensity meter is used.5.5Coaxial Cables and Connectors—These are devices for connecting power between specific components without caus-ing interference with other components.These should all have a50-V characteristic impedance.Double-shielded cables pro-vide lower leakage than single-shielded cables.Type-N con-nectors provide more reliability and less leakage than BNC connectors.Precision14-mm connectors give lower mismatch errors and are more reliable under heavy usage than other connectors,but are more expensive and are not used on most generators or receivers.5.6Attenuators—These are devices used to isolate the specimen holder from the signal generator and the receiver. Their main purpose in this system is for impedance matching. A10-dB,50-V attenuator should be used on each end of the specimen holder.The material under test usually causes a large reflection of energy back into the signal generator.This may also cause variations of the incident power by changing the generator impedance e of a bidirectional coupler allows monitoring and correcting any changes in incident power due to this loading.Attenuators greater than10dB will excessively decrease the dynamic range of the measurement system.6.Test Specimens6.1The reference and load specimens must be of the same material and thickness.Both are shown in Fig.2.Dimensions are shown in Fig.3.The load specimen can be larger than the outer diameter of theflange on the holder,but keeping them to the dimensions shown in Fig.3will expedite handling.6.2Specimen thickness is a critical dimension.For the best repeatability of SE measurements,reference specimen and load specimen must be identical in thickness.For this method,two FIG.1General TestSetup FIG.2Illustration of Reference and LoadSpecimensspecimens are considered to have identical thickness if the difference in the average thicknesses is less than 25µm and the thickness variation within and between specimens is less than 5%of the average.6.3Materials of the specimens may be either homogeneous or inhomogeneous,single or multiple layered,and conducting or insulating.Measured SE values of inhomogeneous materials are dependent on geometry and orientation,and results are less repeatable than for homogeneous materials.6.4Before tests,condition test specimens for 48h at 2362°C and 5065%relative humidity.Tests must be performed immediately upon removal from conditioning environment.7.Preparation of Apparatus7.1An initial check of the specimen holder should be performed with a time-domain reflectometer or other suitable instrument in order to ensure that a characteristic impedance of 5060.5V has been achieved during construction,and that this impedance has not been degraded during shipment or handling.A time-domain system can give location of a mis-match in addition to its magnitude.7.2Each time the ancillary equipment is connected to the specimen holder,good practice requires measurement of a reference specimen in order to ensure the measurement system is in proper working order.7.2.1The dynamic range of the system can be checked by comparing the maximum signal level obtained with a reference specimen to the minimum signal level obtained when using a metallic load specimen.The lower limit of the measurement system sensitivity is a function of the sensitivity and bandwidthof the receiver.Narrowing the bandwidth of the receiver lowers the detectable level,but increases the measurement time.Leakage due to connectors or cables may reduce the DR of the system by providing a parallel signal path that does not pass through the specimen.If a step attenuator placed in series with the specimen holder causes a change in the minimum signal detected that corresponds to a change in attenuator setting,and if the step attenuator itself does not cause a leakage path,leakage is negligible and the DR measured above is correct.If the levels do not correspond,the attenuation should be in-creased until a one-to-one correspondence is achieved to determine the DR.Since leakage from a coaxial connector is determined not only by the quality of the connector,but also by the amount of torque used in tightening the connector,connec-tions should be rechecked.7.2.2If a standard reference specimen such as gold film deposited on mylar is available,measurement of its value can provide ensurance that the entire system is working properly.A specimen that has 5V per square resistance should give a measured SE of −3263dB.Any other known specimen may be used to check setup-to-setup repeatability.7.2.3Careful handling of the specimen holder and speci-mens is important.7.3Preparation of 7.2should be run in accordance with procedures of Section 8.8.Procedure8.1Follow the preparation of apparatus in accordance with 7.2whenever the measurement system has been reconfigured or not used for severaldays.FIG.3Drawing That Gives Dimensions of Reference and LoadSpecimens8.2Prepare two specimens in accordance with Section6.8.3Determine all frequencies for which SE values are to be measured.The specimen mounting procedure described in8.4 requires more time and effort than changing frequency,so it is more efficient to record values at all frequencies for the reference specimen,change to the load specimen,and then record load values at these same frequencies.This procedure can be automated if a computer and ancillary equipment with IEEE-488Bus capability are available.8.4The procedure for inserting the specimens is as follows: Use a support structure(a large roll of tape or special stand)to support the specimen holder in a vertical position.Remove two nylon screws,turn the holder end for end,remove the other two nylon screws,and carefully lift off the upper half of the holder. An indented,soft foam pad is useful for holding this upper half of the specimen holder while continuing the installation or removal of specimens.Place the two pieces of the reference specimen on theflange of the bottom half of the specimen holder,taking care that the disk for the center conductor is aligned e small amounts of transparent tape as needed.Replace the half of the specimen holder that had been removed so that the holes for the nylon screws are aligned. Reinstall two nylon screws.Turn the holder end for end and then reinstall the other two nylon screws.Reconnect the coaxial cables.8.5Measure the received power(or voltage)while using the reference specimen.Record the measured received values as P2or V2values at each frequency.8.6Replace the reference specimen with the load specimen.8.7Measure the received power with the load specimen. considered are operator errors,specimen-caused errors,and measurement-system errors.X1.2Operator errors may be caused by either carelessness or lack of experience and training.No bound can be placed on such errors,but the deviation from any norm may be large enough that an experienced observer will be able to determine that the results are indeed erroneous.X1.3Specimen-caused errors are due to irregularities in specimens,either in preparation or in inherent structure.Isotropic,homogeneous specimens with smooth surfaces will give the most repeatable results.If the reference specimen and load specimen are of different thickness,a bias error will be introduced.If both specimens are of the same thickness,buthave irregular thickness over each specimen,random errors will be introduced.Inhomogeneities or anisotropicities in specimens cause various effects depending on size,distribu-tion,and geometric arrangement.Experience with measure-ments on many types of specimens indicates that repeatability of measured data may be expected except when the surface is rough.A round-robin of measurements made on different types of specimens bears this out.X1.4Measurement-system errors are caused by impedance mismatches,generator instabilities,leakage paths,limited dy-namic range,limited frequency range and receiver errors.To the extent that an experienced,well-trained operator can make measurements over the appropriate frequency range,within the dynamic range of the system,avoid leakage paths within the measurement system’s dynamic range,use reduced to a very modest part of the total error.X1.5Table X1.1gives a summary of estimated errors under favorable conditions by a skilled operator.X1.6The systematic error in the receiver is probably irrelevant since the SE values are based on difference measure-ments.The random error that relates to drift over a few minute time period is very relevant.If no attenuators were used,the mismatch error on the generator side would be excessive,since,in one case,with the reference specimen installed in the holder,the impedance seen by the signal generator is deter-mined almost entirely by the receiver,and,in the other case,with the load specimen installed,the impedance seen by the signal generator is almost a short circuit for conductive specimens.The actual change in impedance is greatly reduced by the attenuator between the signal generator and the speci-men holder.The actual change of impedance level seen by the signal generator may also load the signal generator and cause the output power to vary from one condition to the other.These changes can be monitored by use of a bi-directional coupler,and corrections can be made to compensate for them.Thiscoupler is not shown as part of the setup shown in Fig.1,so the error given for generator instability is based on no compensa-tion.The size of the corrections measured with a coupler were the basis to determine the magnitude of this effect if no compensation is used.X1.7Results from a round robin of measurements per-formed by 5different individuals at 5different organizations on 5sets of specimens of 3different materials indicate what level of agreement may be expected.These results reflect variations due to all causes.Results from all 5sets are not included,since a few data points are obvious outliers,probably caused by operator error.One material,stainless steel deposited on an ABS base,had a very smooth surface.The standard deviation for this specimen based on measurements by 5individuals on 5specimens was 0.9dB.A second material,carbon coated on 1side of an ABS base,was not quite as smooth,and the standard deviation for this specimen based on measurements by 5individuals on 5specimens was 2.0dB.The third material,nickel coated on an ABS base,showed substantial surface roughness.The standard deviation for this specimen based on measurements by 5individuals on 5specimens was 6.0dB.For all three materials,the same specimen holder and numbered specimens were used.Each of the 5individuals used different ancillary equipment.X1.8The systematic uncertainty,or bias error,is 61.2dB.The random error,based on a standard deviation of 2.5dB from the round robin results on reasonably smooth specimens,is within 65dB.PUTER PROGRAM FOR CALCULATING NEAR-FIELD SE V ALUESX2.1This appendix contains a short computer program for use with a personal computer.The program calculates near-field values of (SE)based on measured values of far-field SE.It produces approximate values,and as explained in Footnote 2,these values vary as a function of many factors,and therefore they should be used as estimates only.There are several approximations that apply.Nevertheless,these calcu-lated values may serve as guidelines by providing knowledge concerning approximate near-field SE values without having to make the much more difficult measurements necessary to obtain either the near-field electric (E)or magnetic (H)SE values.X2.2The source file is written in (ASCII)code for an appropriate Fortran-77compiler.Executable versions that do not require compilation are available for computers with or without math coprocessors.X2.3Three inputs are required,the positive measured SE value in dB of a material that has a flat frequency response from 100to 1000MHz,the separation distance between 2coaxially oriented magnetic dipoles,and the separation dis-tance between 2coaxially oriented electric dipoles.X2.4The approximations made in the computer program are that k 0*Z 0<<1,that the material Tilting Back the Adventure Rack:•Remove the front bolts that connect the top support bar to the front supports and back off the top rubber bump stops.•F rom the rear pull back the rack and let it rest supports as shown on page 3.Install front supports to vehicle as shown on page7.Leave the mounting bolts loose on both sides to allow for adjustment when connecting the front tube(287/8")11.Install bolts into front connecting tube and slightly tighten all bolts.12.Ali g n front mounts so they are parallel with the front wind shield and tighten all fourmounting bolts(5mm Allen)13.Install top support bar to front and rear supports.Tabs go inboard and the long side goe sto the front,as shown on page3..14.Install the two top support crossbars to the top support bar as shown on page3.15.Align the Adventure Rack and tighten all fasteners.16.After rack is aligned and all fasteners tightened,use the5/32Allen wrench to tighten allof the pointed Allen set screws in the lower support bracket into the lower body flange.Secure with the5116jam nuts.17.Re-install factory rear bumper.Weather Proofing Connecting Joints:•Back out the5116button head allen bolts approx.1/4"from the tubes.Apply black s ilicon to the threads and hole.Re-tighten bolt.•Apply black silicon around the area where the front and rear tubes slide over the supports.•Touch up all nicks and scratches that normally occur with a black enamel paint. Tilting Back the Adventure Rack:•Remove the front bolts that connect the top support bar to the front supports and back off the top rubber bump stops.•From the rear pull back the rack and let it rest Thein s truc t ions must be fol l owed ex a ct l y. Read through the in s truc t ions com p lete l y before starting the procedure. The Jandy Niche is designed to be installed in the pool or spa walls.1. Installation During New Construction Ensure that the pool or spa meets the requirementsof the current National Electrical Code and all local codes and ordinances. A licensed or certifi ed electrician must install the electrical system to meet or exceed those requirements before the Niche (fi xture housing)is installed. Some of the requirements of the National Electrical Code, which the pool and spa electrical systems must meet, are as follows:a. The lighting circuit must have a Ground FaultCircuit Interrupter (GFCI) for 120 volt models,and must have an appropriately rated circuitbreaker.b. The Junction Box (or, for 12 volt models, thelow voltage transformer) must be located at leasteight (8) inches above water level, at least four (4)inches above ground level, and at least four (4)feet from the edge of the pool or spa. See Figure 1.c. Thelightfi xture and all metal items within fi ve (5) feet of the pool or spa must be properly electrically bonded to a reliable point of grounding. Seal thewire/lug connection with a listed sealant.d. The wet niche must be properly installed so thatthe top edge of the underwater light’s lens is atleast 18 inches below (not more than 48 inchesbelow in Canada) the surface of the water in thepool or spa. See Figure 1.e. The wet niche must be properly electricallybonded and grounded via the No. 8 AWG groundconnector located at the rear of the niche. SeeFigure 1.2. Installation Instructions for Plastic Niches(PLNICLRG AND PLNICSM)a. Locate a position for the installation of the nicheand light fi xture so that the top of the lens willbe a minimum of 18” below normal water level.Position niche between adjacent rebars so that theniche is held on four sides by sections of rebar. Itmay be necessary to add sections of rebar or tomove existing sections in order to secure niche inplace.b. Attach conduit to the back of niche using theproper PVC/CPVC primer and glue. See Figure2. A 1” PVC 45 degree sweep elbow is includedwith the niche to direct the conduit pipe upwardstoward the junction box. A ¾” reducer is alsoincluded with the niche to permit the use of ¾”conduit pipe. Make sure to follow the primer andglue manufacturer's instructions for the preparation procedures and curing times.Page 3c. Using tie wire, attach the niche housing to therebar. Jandy models PLNICLRG and PLNICSM have four (4) outer fl anges with ¼” holes which should be used to route the tie wire through to secure the niche to the rebar. Ensure that the niche is the proper forward distance from the rebar so that the top surface of the niche will be fl ush with the fi nish surface.NOTE: Be sure to orient the niche so that the ‘TOP’ marking of the niche is in the 12 o’clock position.d. Connect #8 AWG bonding wire from rebar to reargrounding lug of niche (outside of the niche). e.If nonmetallic conduit is used, a #8 AWG bonding wire is required to run through conduit from the junction box to the bonding/grounding lug inside of niche. Seal the wire/lug connection with a listed sealant. See Figure 3.f.The outside bonding connection must be inspected before the concrete pouring/shooting operation. It is also necessary to keep concrete or gunite from hardening on the outer edge and fl ange of the niche during pouring/shooting.g.Remove the nylon screw and attach plastic niche cover to opening of niche prior to theconcrete/gunite pouring/shooting operation. See Figure 4. The cover prevents concrete or gunite from entering the inside of the niche, during the pouring/shooting operation.h.Once the concrete/gunite has completely dried and prior to plastering, tear outer portion away from cover. Plaster up to the top edge of niche.i.A PVC 1” Plug is provided with niche for pressure testing of conduit line before installation of light fi xture.Figure 4. Begin by removing your stock seat to provide access to your fuse box. Refer to your owners manual if necessary.2. If you are installing a NON-heated seat, skip to step 10. Otherwise your Corbin saddle comes prewired with the switch, heating elements and controller already in place on the saddle. The only special installation required is to wire the appropriate adapter to the quick release pigtail into your fuse box and connect it to the seat.3. Installing the pigtail is simple and only requires two connections. The red wire will plug into the accessory jack of your fuse box, while the black wire connects to the ground location on the battery.4. The fuse box is located on the left side of your motorcycle under the side cover. Open the fuse box cover and locate Accessories fuse. Remove the Accessory fuse (check inside of fuse box cover or owners manual for it’s location). Replace the fuse box cover, making sure not to pinch the wires.6. Route the wiring where it will not be pinched against the chassis, by the seat or other objects as this could cause a short.7. Attach the ground wire to the negative terminal on the battery, using a Phillips screwdriver. (Figure 4)8. Wind up the wiring harness leaving approximately 10” of wiring to connect to the saddle. Tie the excess with the provided zip ties and secure neatly out of the way before mounting the seat to prevent potential damage. (Figure 5)9. Reinstall the side cover10. Install the supplied #SP11015 latch pin and 6mm flat washer into the tab at the base of the gas tank. Secure with a 6mm flat washer and nylock nut, using a 7/16” open wrench for the pin and a 10mm open wrench for the nut. Tighten to 6 ft. lbs. (Figure 6). 11. Mount the rear bracket to your fender as shown in Figure 7using the 1/4 x 20 NyLock nuts and 1/4” large washers. Slide the bracket onto the studs and secure in place. Again, there is adjustment built into this bracket, start roughly in the center and adjust as needed after the seat is installed.12. Figure 8shows how your chassis should look when the saddle is ready to install. Notice the rear bracket lays on the fender to create a platform parallel to the ground. If it slopes radically downward, it has been installed in reverse. Remove and apply correctly. Tighten these nuts to 10 ft. lbs.NOTE: The threaded holes in the rear bracket are not used in this application.13. To install your saddle, simply slide the tongue located at the REAR of the seat under the rear fender bracket. Now lower the nose of the seat so the lock mechanism engages with the latch pin.NOTE:When the seat is installed properly, you will hear ONE click as the lock engages the latch pin. If needed, you can add a washer under the latch pin toraise it up.FIG 4 FIG 5 FIG 614. If the saddle does not appear to sit properly on the motorcycle, you can adjust the front and rear brackets as needed.15. Once secured in place, simply insert the key and turn clockwise to disengage the lock and remove. If the saddle does not release, push down on the nose of the saddle to take pressure off the lock mechanism and then turn the key. Now pull up the nose of the saddle and remove.16. To install the rear seat, start by screwing the supplied #P10114 latch pin and #P00545 nylon cap into the rear thread nut of the rear fender, using a7/16” open wrench.17. To install the rear seat, slide the front tongue under the bracket, then secure the rear tab tightly with the stock mounting bolt. (Figure 9).NOTE:You will need to remove the front seat to allow the front tongue on the rear seat to slide in under the bracket.18. Your heated seat is ready for a test drive. The heater is controlled by the switch along the side of the saddle. There is a low position and a high position and temperature will be controlled by an internal thermostat. The rider area is operated by the single switch. Heat will only operate when motorcycle ignition is ON and takes a couple minutes to warm up.
