Welcome to Marksdale State Park
Where fun, fitness, and education
come together
Don’t miss our new summer classes available during May 23- Aug 5!
Swimming lessons: Ages 4—adult. Cost: $ 5 per class or $ 15 for one month.
Hiking: Have a state park keeper hike through our paths with you and teach you about the park’s wildlife and plants. Marksdale is a perfect spot for hiking.

Bicycling: We have special paths built for bicyclists. Signs are
posted for self-guided tours of our park. Group cycling is also available with a park guide. Paths range from easy to challenging.
A message from the director:
Hiking paths! Sport fields! Playgrounds! Campgrounds! Fun activities! Located on McQueeney, Marksdale State Park offers something for everyone. We have a number of plants and animals, which are in danger of dying out, being protected in our park. At times Marty made it sound too easy. On a visit to his home I heard him say, “Pe ople need to decide to be happy.”
I pressed him. “What do you mean by that?” His face took on an skeptical look. “You have to ask me?” At that moment I felt a little foolish. Complex human problems, at least to me, often prevent people from being happy. To Marty it was a matter of common sense. I wondered, what was I missing? That night Marty told me a story that was very personal for him. I knew Marty and Mickey h ad four children. I didn’t know there had been a fifth. She was their second child. She died shortly after birth.
“The funeral director was a super guy,” Marty said. “He knew we didn’t have any money, but he told us he would take care of our little girl. He went out and built a wood casket (小盒) for her.”
Marty’s voice started to break. “He only charged us five dollars. It’s stuff like that. You can look for the good in people and you’ll find the good. You can look for the bad in people and you’ll find the bad.”
I didn’t know what it was like to grow up poor. Marty’s life was filled with minimum-wage jobs, borrowing on insurance policies, and working overtime to make a little more money.
In my lifetime I had seen people in similar circumstances grow angry. Bitterness took hold of their lives and choked them.
“I never had much money, and I don’t think I ever will.” Marty said. “People think they need to have a lot of things to make them happy. They ought to look around and see what’s really important.” When Mar ty looked around, he saw the most beautiful girl in the world as his wife, four children who loved him, a home he took pride in, and a job that made him feel alive. He
was happy because, in his mind, he had it all.

66. What does the author learn from Marty?
A. Everyone needs to live a hard life.
B. Everyone can choose to be happy.
C. Never let others affect your mood.
D. Complex problems can become simple.
67. What would be the best title for the text?
A. The source of happiness
B. The pleasure of life
C. The importance of family
D. The meaning of kindness

Life will probably be very different in 2050. First of all, it seems that TV channels will have disappeared by 2050. Instead, people will choose a programme from a “menu” and a computer will send the programme directly to the television. Today, we can use the World Wide Web to read newspaper stories and see pictures on a computer thousands of kilometers away. By 2050, music, films, programmes, newspapers and books will come to us in this way.
In many places, agriculture is developing quickly and people are growing fruit and vegetables for export. This uses a lot of water. Therefore, there could be serious shortages. Some futurologists predict that water could be the cause of war if we don’t act now.
In future, cars will run on new, clean fuels and they will go very fast. Cars will have computers to control the speed of them and there won’t be any accidents. Today, many cars have computers that tell drivers exactly where they are. By 2050, the computer will control the car and drive it to your destination. Also, by 2050, space planes will fly people from Los Angels to Tokyo in just two hours.
Some big companies now prefer to use robots that do not ask for pay rises or go on strike, and work 24 hours a day. By 2050, we will see robots everywhere —in factories, schools, offices, hospitals, shops and homes.
By 2050, we will be able to help blind and deaf people see again and hear again. Nowadays, scientists have discovered how to control genes and have already produced clones of animals. By 2050, scientists will be able to produce clones of people and decide how they look, how they behave and how much intelligence they have. Scientists will be able to do these things, but should they?
68. By 2050, people will get information mainly by ________.
A. watching TV
B. reading newspapers
C. listening to the radio
D. turning to a website
69. What will play the biggest part in the quality of future life?

B. Technology.
C. Education.
D. Agriculture.
70. Which of the following subjects is NOT mentioned in the passage?
A. Entertainment.
B. Travel.
C. Climate.
D. Health.
V. 任务型阅读
T raveling to a new country isn’t as simple as just buying a ticket and boarding a plane. In fact, it can be easy for an awkward situation to occur. Different customs can often cause misunderstandings and even trouble. So an article in the Daily Mail highl ighted taboos in certain countries. Let’s take a look.
France When visiting France, you’d better not be caught cutting your lettuce with a knife and fork. It’s an insult to the chef and suggests that the salad hasn’t been prepared correctly. The correct way to eat lettuce in France is to fold it with your fork to make it fit in your mouth.
Italy It’s actually best to be a little less friendly than usual when you visit Italy. It’s considered strange to make small talk with strangers, as the locals are reserved. Too much familiarity from a stranger can be seen as threatening, so keep greetings short.
Mexico In Mexico, bringing an expensive gift to someone’s home is a no-no, as it could be seen as a tribe. Something simple like flowers and chocolates would be accepted. But you should avoid taking along marigolds (金盏花) or red flowers, because in
Mexican culture, they symbolize death and can be associated with witchcraft(巫术).
Germany You have to be careful with gifts of flowers in Germany too. Steer clear of carnations(康乃馨),as they are used for funerals. And an even number is considered unlucky. So if you want to give your host flowers, ask them what their favorite flowers are before your visit. And be sure to bring an odd number.
How to avoid 71.________ taboos in a new country
or red flowers.
