come短语,before,when
Before的翻译

It was an awkward moment, for he needed to compose himself before he could greet Charlotte, but he was clearly eager to greet her before he could compose himself.

1. before译为“(在)。

之前”
Before the rooster crows, you will say three times that you
don't know me.

You must not count your chickens before they are hatched.

Before he could press the trigger, the plane had gone up again.

Before we could stop him, he had rushed on to a potato plot and dug up one of the potatoes.

3. before译为“先。

Before we could do the work well, the masses must be mobilized.

Sukarno felt that the Tavanese people had to be inspired with the idea of nationhood before they could be organized.

4. before译为“。

才”
It was another five minutes before Matt heard him coming
down the stairs.

There is an hour to wait before we set off.

5. before译为“。

Winter paused for dramatic effect before delivering the coup de grace.

There was a hush before the audience exploded again.

They had not been married a month before they quarreled.

I had not gone a mile before I felt tired.

7. not long before译为“不久将”、“不用多久就”、“快”
I hope it will not be long before we meet again.

It will not be long before the despot comes to his end.

Put down her telephone number before you forget it.

It is vital that scientists should perceive the danger now before it is too late.

It will be three months before I can come home.

It was three years before I could come home.

10.
The guerrillas would fight to death before they surrendered.

Look before you leap.

It was 27 December before we reached Xi'an and already the Young Marshal had flown his captive back to Nanjing.

But everyone
was soon ordered to leave the site because of severe new avalanche hazards, and it was Monday before they could return.

该结构相当于it is not until+时间+before-clause. before这时应译为“直到。

It was not until 27 December that we reached Xi'an, and already the Young Marshal had flown his captive back to Nanjing.
But everyone was soon ordered to leave the site because of severe new avalanche hazards, and it was not until Monday that they could return.

When

Come when you please.

When I saw him,he was writing to a friend of his.

I was taking a walk,when I came across him.

I was thinking of this, when I heard my name called.

I had just fallen asleep, when the boor-bell rang.

如在“ I was wandering through the street wh en I caught sight of a tailor's shop ”一句中,“在街头漫步”只是“看见有家缝纫店”

I was cooking when I heard her knocking at the door.

He was thinking about the problem, when an apple fell to the ground.

(2 )was /were going to,was / were about to,was / were on the point of

I was just going when he came in.

We were about to start when it began to rain.

He was on the point of leaving, when someone knocked at the door.

( a )过去完成时和含否定意义的hardly,scarcely,nearly 连用,和just,little 连用,或者与否定词not 连用时,表示“刚。

,就。

例如:
I had hardly opened the door when he hit me.

I had nearly reached the town, when the young man suddenly said very slowly,“ Do you speak English?”
I had been there little more than a week when I set to work in earnest.

I had not been reading for half an hour when I heard steps outside.

Hardly had I left before the trouble started.

Mick was sleeping when they went in.

When they came in Mick was sleeping.

“ Was Mick sleeping when they came in?”和“ What was Mick doing when they came in?”
when,while,as引导时间状语从句的区别

① Why do you want a new job when you’ve got such a good one already?(get为短暂性动词)你已经找到如此好的工作,为何还想再找新的?
②Sorry,I was out when you called me.(call为短暂性动词)对不起,你打电话时我刚好外出了。

③Strike while the iron is hot.(is为延续性动词,表示一种持续的状态)趁热打铁。

④ The students took notes as they listened.(listen为延续性动词)学生们边听课边做笔记。

①When he had finished his homework,he took a short rest.(finished先发生)当他完成作业后,他休息了一会儿。

②When I got to the airport, the guests had left.(got to后发生)当我赶到飞机场时,客人们已经离开了。

①When /While /As we were dancing,a stranger came in.(dance为延续性动词)当我们跳舞时,一位陌生人走了进来。

②When /While /As she was making a phone call,I was writing a letter.(make为延续性动词)当她在打电话时,我正在写信。

这时,as

① As the time went on,the weather got worse.(as表示“随着。

② The atmosphere gets thinner and thinner as the height increases.

③As years go by,China is getting stronger and richer.

④The little girls sang as they went.

⑤The sad mother sat on the roadside, shouting as she was crying.

①You shall borrow the book when I have finished reading it.

②When the manager comes here for a visit next week,Ill talk with him about this.

sb.had hardly(=scarcely)done sth.when...=Hardly /Scarcely had sb.done sth.when...①I had hardly /scarcely closed my eyes when someone knocked at the door.=Hardly /Scarcely had I closed my eyes when someone knocked
at the door.

②I had hardly /scarcely entered my room when the telephone rang.=Hardly /Scarcely had I entered my room when the telephone rang.
