• • There are three major functions of logistics: 1. Creating time value: some goods can be valued differently at different times. Goods often stop during the transfer process, which is professionally called the storage of logistics. It creates the time value for goods. • 2. Creation location value: same goods can be valued differently at different locations. The value added during the transfer process is the location value of logistics. • 3. Distribution processing value: sometimes logistics create distribution processing value, which changes the length, thickness and packages of the goods. Like popular saying, “cutting into smaller parts” is the most commonly seen distribution processing within logistics which creates added value for goods.

Modern logistics is related to the effective and efficient flow of materials and information, most professionals in the business consider it one of the most challenging and exciting job, invisible as it is. They are of vital importance to customers and clients in various sections of the economic society which may include but by no means is limited to: packaging, warehousing, material handling, inventory, transport, forecasting, strategic planning, and customer service.

• The components of a typical logistics system are: customer service, demand forecasting, distribution communications, inventory control, material handling, order processing, parts and service support, plant and warehouse site selection, purchasing, packaging, returned goods handling, scrap disposal, traffic and transportation, and warehousing and storage. What is logistics?
• Logistics, in its most basic definition, is the efficient flow and storage of goods from their point of origin to the point of consumption. It is the part of the supply chain process that plans, implements and controls the flow of goods. It can also be seen as the management of inventory, in rest or in motion. • The word logistics was first used in the military service to describe the process of supplying a war zone with troops, supplies and equipment. The term is now used more commonly in the field of business.
Logistics is sometimes described as achieving the “five rights”: Right quantity; Right quality; Right place; Right time; Right price.
