Project 1 Around our city (period 1-2)
Objectives
•To introduce students to the concept of a city and what it means to live in one.
•To teach students about the geography and landmarks of their city.
•To improve students’ abilities to give directions and navigate through their city.
Materials Needed
•Maps of the city
•Pictures of the city’s landmarks
•Whiteboard and markers
•Computers and internet access
•Worksheets
Introduction
The teacher introduces the concept of a city. Teacher can use prompts like: What is a city? What are the advantages of living in a city? What are the disadvantages of living in a city? The teacher asks students to identify the city they live in and what they like about it.

Procedure
1.The teacher presents a map of the city and shows students where they are located. Students are then asked to mark where they live on the map.
2.The teacher then shows pictures of the landmarks in the city and asks students to identify them.
3.Students are then paired up and given a worksheet with a map of the city. One student is blindfolded and the other gives directions to find a specific landmark. The roles are then switched.
4.The teacher then demonstrates how to give a direction to a city landmark using a whiteboard and markers.
5.Students are then given a worksheet with a list of landmarks and directions to find them. They are then asked to give directions to their partner to find the landmark.
6.The teacher shows students how to give directions using prepositions.
7.Students are then given a worksheet with a map of the city and prepositions. They are then asked to use the prepositions to give directions to a landmark.
8.Students are then divided into groups and given a map of the city. They are then asked to plan a route to visit three landmarks and give directions on how to get there.
9.Students present their route to the class and peer evaluate their route.
Conclusion
The teacher asks students what they learned about their city. Students are then asked to write a short paragraph about their favorite landmark and why they like it.
Assessment
Students will be assessed on their ability to: - Identify landmarks on a map - Give directions to city landmarks - Use prepositions to give directions - Plan a route to visit three landmarks - Present and explain their route to the class.
