My name is Jenna Berrios and I’m a senior at Rowan High School playing my first basketball season with Unified Sports. Becoming involved with Unified Sports has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my senior year.
R owan’s Unified Sports Club has been the highlight of my final term. It’s a competitive sports club where Rowan students (Unified Partners) and the Special Olympics athletes come together to play on the same team for soccer (fall) and basketball (spring). T he goal of Rowan’s Unified Sports Club is to promote friendship and inclusion through sports while still keeping a competitive atmosphere. But it’s not just playing! They provide a variety of other ways to take part and share in their cause. They hope and try hard to promote equality and inclusion in all aspects of the club. Unified Sports is a fun way to get involved at Rowan, meet new friends, and have a meaningful experience. They encourage people from all walks of life to join in the Unified family.
Words cannot fully explain how much fun taking part in Unified Sports truly is. It not only brings joy and excitement into the Special Olympics athletes’ lives, but also the student athletes, parents and community as well. I personally look forward to Saturday mornings each week when I am reunited with my teammates.
Once everyone is on the court, nobody notices whether you are disabled or not. It’s simply just a group of people of all ages having fun together joining as one unit playing basketball. Playing as a team is exciting and watching the gym full of athletes joining together is inspiring.
Now that I have experienced such a rewarding program, I can only hope it expands to other colleges, high schools, and community centers as well. Everyone has the right to grow up having equal opportunities to play competitive sports. If you have yet to experience Unified Sports, I highly suggest becoming involved in any way you can!

Mary Frye enjoyed writing poetry very much. She wasn’t interested in publishing her poems, and once in a while she passed one on to her friends. “I don’t think I have any great talent,〞 she said. But many people would disagree. One of her poems, especially, has given hope and comfort to people for over 50 years.
When one of her friends lost someone close, Mary Frye wrote a poem, which seemed to spring from her heart, and gave it to the sad woman. That poem was later passed on to others, who, in turn, passed it on until it became an American classic. “If it helps one person through a hard time, I am satisfied,〞 said Mary, who received no pay for her work. It has been used at countless funerals (葬礼), translated and used in foreign lands.
Here is her original text, which has moved so many for so long:
Do not stand at my grave and weep, / I am not there, I do not sleep. / I am in a thousand winds that blow, / I am the softly falling snow. / I am the gentle showers of rain, / I am the fields of ripening grain. / I am in the morning hush, / I am in the graceful rush. / Of beautiful birds in circling flight, / I am the starshine of the night. / I am in the flowers that bloom, / I am in a quiet room. / I am in the birds that sing, / I am in each lovely thing. / Do not stand at my grave and cry, / I am not there. I do not die.
How many people are finding strength and comfort from a poem by a woman who always said she had no talent? And what if she had kept her poetry to herself?
Don’t be afraid to use the talents you do have; it has been well advised. The woods would be very silent if only the birds with the sweetest songs were heard.

A. translated many foreign poems
B. had many of her poems published
C. chose to make a living by writing poems
D. would share her poems with others sometimes

D. Strict and patient.
27. What does the underlined word “I〞 in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A. The dead one.
B. The living one.
C. The sad woman.
D. Mary Frye.
28. What does the last sentence of the text imply?
A. Birds like to show off their talents in the woods.
B. Few poems can give comfort like Mary Frye’s.
C. We should not be too shy to show our talents.
D. The woods would be very silent without birds.

Clara Barton, born on Christmas in 1821, is widely known as one of the most honored women in American history. She began teaching school when most teachers were men at that time. Later, she became one of the first women ever to be employed by the government.
Her career in helping the sick began when her brother David became her first patient. He fell down from the roof of a house when Clara was just 11 years old. She stayed by his side and looked after him for three years, learning how to give him all his medicines.
When the Civil War began in 1861, she immediately recognized that the poorly equipped soldiers needed help. Instead of waiting for others to step in, Clara collected necessary things on her own, asked the public for donations and learned how to store and distribute them to soldiers. She also read to the soldiers and wrote letters for them.
After the Battle of Cedar Mountain in northern Virginia in 1862, Clara arrived at a field hospital at midnight with a vehicle full of supplies. A doctor
named Paul Smith at that hospital would later write, “I thought heaven had sent out an angel that night — her assistance arrived at exactly the right time.〞In 1869, Clara went to Europe and learned about the International Committee of the Red Cross. Upon her return to the United States, she successfully founded the American Red Cross. She led the organization for the next 23 years. Her last field mission (使命) as president of the American Red Cross was to help the victims of the 1900 Galveston hurricane. She did not retire from the American Red Cross until she was 83. True to her nature, Clara always went to where the need was the greatest.
Today, the American Red Cross continues the mission Clara started more than 100 years ago. With the help of thousands of volunteers, the American Red Cross provides relief to victims of disasters, as well as helps people prevent, prepare for and respond to all sorts of
emergencies.
29. After the Civil War broke out, Clara Barton _____.
A. joined the army and fought bravely
B. went to Europe for further study
C. continued to work as a teacher

The Regional Director of the National Heritage Conservation Commission (国家遗产保护委员会) Kagosi Mwamulowe said the Barotse Plains is unique and it deserves to be on the list of the World Heritage Sites.
Mr. Mwamulowe said the Barotse Plains deserves to be included on the World Heritage List because it has a rich cultural heritage which includes the burial sites of former kings.

How to overcome challenges in your life
We all face tough and difficult challenges in life. To overcome challenges you need to have that “never quit〞attitude in life. If you develop it, you’ll overcome quite a bit.
Motivate yourself. Say “YES, I CAN.〞 The challenge should bring out the best of you in this situation. Slow it down, and think that process through. 71 If you develop that mindset (心态), you’ll get it done.
72 Remain calm when you’re facing serious troubles and problems in life. You have to recollect yourself, and calm down. You can’t solve problems when you’re panicking. Take a deep breath, relax, and slow it down. Think things through calmly. Let failure and fear fuel you in a positive way. Everyone fails at times. If you fail the first, second, or third time, don’t give up.73
Learn what made you fail at overcoming these challenges.
Simplify the challenge you’re facing. Make the challenge easier than it
is. 74 As you get through each step, you develop more confidence and you believe you can get it done, and then you will.
Stay positive and confident. 75 You have to find out all the ways you can use to overcome it, and put them to full use with all your effort. It’s our own mental stability that’s the difficult part. When you do it mentally, you’ll actually be able to do it.
A. Stay calm and cool headed.
B. Think the best, not the worst.
C. Start by breaking it down into steps.
D. To overcome a challenge, you have to believe you can really do it.
E. Most people will avoid any challenge, because they’re scared of failing.
F. Develop that confidence in saying there’s no way you’re going to fail at this.
G. Pick yourself up, and learn from why you’ve failed, and move on in a positive direction.

写作范文:
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen.
Some of us are having problems with our parents, as they often look into our school bags or read our diaries. I fully understand why we are not comfortable about it, but there’s no need to feel too sad. Our parents are checking our bags or diaries to make sure we’re not getting into any trouble. They h ave probably heard some horrible stories about other kids and thought we might do the same. Or perhaps they just want to connect with us but are doing it all wrong. My suggestion is: Tell them we want them to trust us as much as we’d like to trust them. If you don’t think you can talk to them, write them a letter and leave it lying around—they are bound to read it.
Thank you for listening!。
