你邀请交换生第一次在中国过春节的英语作文全文共6篇示例,供读者参考篇1My First Chinese New Year with JennyMy name is Li Ming and I'm 10 years old. I live in Beijing with my mom, dad, little brother Xiao Ming, and grandparents. This year, we had a really special guest come stay with us for the Spring Festival - my American exchange student friend Jenny!Jenny is from California and she's never celebrated Chinese New Year before. She's been staying with us for a few months to learn Chinese and experience life in China. When my parents asked if she wanted to spend the holiday with us, she was super excited! The fun started a few weeks before the actual New Year's Day. My mom took us all shopping for new clothes, which is a tradition. We got fresh outfits in lucky red colors. Jenny picked out a cute red sweater with pandas on it. She looked so funny trying to use the Chinese words for "How much does this cost?"At home, we started decorating our apartment with red lanterns, papercuttings of characters meaning luck and happiness, and chunlian couplets with poetic sayings. My dad let me hang some up even though I'm not very tall! Jenny helped too and asked what everything meant.A couple days before New Year's Eve, we made dumplings together as a family. It was messy but so much fun! We made pork and veggie ones. My grandma showed Jenny the perfect way to pinch and fold the dumpling wrappers. Jenny's didn't look as nice as grandma's, but she did pretty good for her first time. Finally, it was the evening of New Year's Eve! We watched the amazing TV gala show with singing, dancing, comedy acts and fireworks. It was hard for Jenny to understand everything, but she loved the stunning visuals. She got really excited every time she recognized a word in Chinese! After watching some of the show, it was time for our huge family dinner. We had so many amazing dishes - my favorites were the sweet and sour chicken balls, lap cheong sausage, garlic choy sum greens, and fried rice with chunky pieces of spam. Yum! Jenny tried everything but her eyes got super wide when she tasted the thousand year old eggs. She didn't love those! At midnight, we went outside and lit sparklers to welcome the New Year. It was drizzling rain a little bit but that didn't stop all the fireworks going off everywhere! The whole sky was filled with bright colors and loud pops. So exciting! My little brother cried because he was scared of the noise, but Jenny thought it was awesome. On New Year's Day, I woke up early to my grandpa giving me a red envelope with lucky money inside. He gave Jenny one too which was so nice of him! Then we watched the special New Year's Day broadcast on TV with the amazing mask changer act and lots of Peking opera excerpts. In the afternoon, the whole family walked over to Dadu Park which was beautifully decorated with lanterns and rabbit sculptures since this was the Year of the Rabbit. We took a ton of pictures posing with the giant inflatable Rabbit God! There were lots of stalls selling fun snacks and toys too. I got a ridiculously long prickly sugar cane skewer that was bigger than me. Jenny bought an adorable rabbit headband and we both got one of those funny blowup mesh balls that you bat around with your hands. For dinner, we went to my uncle's house and had another huge hot pot feast. My cousin tried to use her chopsticks to fishout the still-living shrimp from the pot but Jenny looked horrified! She stuck to the mushrooms, meatballs and noodles. After dinner, we opened some boxes of sizhiju snacks and ate waaaay too many sunflower and melon seeds. We watched a movie until I started falling asleep on the couch. The next two weeks were still part of the Spring Festival vacation from school. Our family watched more TV shows and played tons of card and board games together. We also took Jenny on some fun trips around Beijing. She loved exploring the hutongs and trying jianbing from the street food stalls. The Temple of Heaven park was her favorite with the gorgeous architecture and beautiful gardens. On the night of the Lantern Festival at the end of the holidays, we made tangyuan balls filled with sweet black sesame paste and sent floating lanterns into the sky with wishes for the new year written on them. We watched an incredible Dragon Dance performance too! Jenny said it was one of the coolest things she'd ever seen. After the Lantern Festival, it was time for Jenny to head back home to California. She was sad to leave but had an amazing experience celebrating her very first Chinese New Year with us in Beijing. Hosting Jenny made this Spring Festival extra fun andspecial. We taught her so many traditions, but she also taught us lots about American culture too. Hopefully Jenny can come be our exchange student again next year!篇2Here's an essay of around 2000 words, written from the perspective of an elementary school student, describing inviting an exchange student to celebrate their first Chinese New Year in China:My First Chinese New Year with My Exchange Student FriendWow! This year was so much fun because I got to celebrate Chinese New Year with my new friend Emily, an exchange student from America. I'm going to tell you all about it!It started a few weeks before the holiday when my mom told me that we would be hosting an exchange student from the United States to experience Chinese New Year with our family. I was really excited because I had never had a foreign friend before. Mom said Emily was 10 years old, just like me, and that she was coming all the way from New York City to stay with us for a few weeks. When Emily arrived, I remember being a little nervous at first. What if she didn't like me or thought my games were boring? But as soon as she walked in the door, she had the biggest smile on her face. "Hi! I'm Emily," she said in English. Even though her Chinese wasn't very good yet, she knew a few phrases like "Nǐhǎo" which made me feel proud that I could help teach her my language.Over the next couple of weeks, Emily and I became best friends. I showed her how to use chopsticks (she dropped a lot of food at first but got better!), taught her some Chinese songs and games, and best of all, I got to learn about her life in America. She told me all about the huge skyscrapers, museums, and parks in New York. It sounded like such an amazing place! Finally, Chinese New Year's Eve arrived. The night before, we stayed up late putting up decorations – gorgeous red lanterns, upside-down fu symbols for good luck, and colorful couplets with poetic messages written on them. Emily's eyes grew wide with wonder at all the traditions. "We don't have anything like this in America!" she exclaimed.Bright and early on New Year's Day, our whole family gathered around the table for the most important meal of the year – the reunion dinner. Emily's jaw dropped when she saw thehuge spread my mom had prepared – steaming hot dumplings, a whole roasted duck, sweet rice cakes, and so much more! We had to explain each dish to her during the meal. I could tell she loved trying all the different flavors. After our big feast, it was time for the fireworks! We bundled up and headed outside where the streets were already glowing with bursts of red, gold, and green in the sky. Emily screamed with delight at each explosion of light and sound. I don't think she had ever seen fireworks like the ones we have for New Year's.The next two weeks were filled with even more New Year's fun – from watching the amazing CCTV New Year's Gala and giving out hongbao red envelopes with lucky money, to visiting the temple fair and watching dragon dances. Emily just couldn't get over all the bright colors, delicious foods, and exciting performances everywhere we went.On her last day in China, I gave Emily a petit tang zhong doll, a little figurine that represents prosperity. "This way you'll never forget your first Chinese New Year!" I told her. She pulled me into the tightest hug and said, "Thank you so much for showing me all your amazing traditions. I'll never forget the wonderful time I had celebrating in China with you!"Saying goodbye was hard, but I felt so lucky that I got to share my favorite holiday with my new best friend from across the world. Not only did I get to experience it again through her eyes and see how special Chinese New Year really is, but now I have a friend for life who understands my culture just a little bit better. I can't wait until next year, because you better believe I'm going to video call Emily and give her a tour of all the celebrations again!篇3My Awesome Chinese New Year with JessicaWow, Chinese New Year was so much fun this year because my friend Jessica from America came to stay with my family! She's an exchange student studying in China and I invited her to celebrate the holiday with us. I was really excited for her to experience all the traditions and delicious foods.A few weeks before the big celebration, my mom started decorating our house with red lanterns, upside-down fu symbols for luck, and dancing lion puppets. Red is a very lucky color in China. Jessica helped us put up the decorations and she thought the lion puppets were hilarious! Then we had to get the house super clean and organized. My grandma says this sweeps away any bad luck from the old year. Jessica couldn't believe how much cleaning we did - even behind the fridge and washing the windows! I grumbled about having to clean my room but it was worth it.On New Year's Eve, we all got dressed up in new clothes my grandma bought us. Jessica looked so pretty in her traditional silk dress. My little brother and I wore matching shirts with fireworks on them. Mom made so many yummy dishes like dumplings, noodles for long life, fish for abundance, and of course lots of oranges and tangerines because they are symbols of wealth. We left an empty plate out in case the Kitchen God came to visit overnight. After dinner, we went outside and set off a bunch of firecrackers and fireworks! I taught Jessica how to properly light a string of firecrackers. She jumped about a mile high when it first started going off. The colorful bursts in the sky were so beautiful and loud. A bunch of our neighbors were out doing it too so it sounded like a war zone!Once it got late, we stayed up watching the New Year's TV specials. There was singing, comedy sketches, magic shows and my favorite was the dancing dragons and lions. I tried explainingthe symbolism to Jessica but I could tell she was pretty lost. No matter though, it was still fun to watch together!Around midnight, we opened all the windows and doors to let the new year in. That's when kids like me are allowed to set off more firecrackers - score! As soon as it hit 12 am, everyone was hugging, cheering, and giving each other red envelopes with money inside. Grandma tucked a crisp 100 bill into my red envelope for good luck! The next morning, we feasted on a breakfast of dumplings, egg rolls, sweet rice balls, and oranges. After stuffing ourselves, it was time to honor our ancestors. We set out plates of food and lit a whole bunch of incense sticks as offerings. Jessica watched politely but didn't really get it.Then came my favorite part - red envelope day! All the kids lined up by age and got red envelopes from the parents and grandparents. Some of my aunts, uncles, and cousin even mailed money orders from far away. We had to be on our best behavior to get as much money as possible. Jessica's jaw dropped when she saw how much cash I raked in!The next two weeks was just pure fun. We played loads of card games and board games. Competed to see who could get the most profit tossed into their gambling tin. Dad took us to seeamazing acrobat shows and dragon dances. One night we all gathered for the Lantern Festival, hung glowing lanterns, and set off thousands of floating paper lanterns into the sky for good luck. It was so pretty seeing them all flickering in the darkness. On the 15th day, we had another huge family banquet with more lucky foods like nian gao (sticky rice cake) and tang yuan (sweet rice balls). Grandma made sure we ate every last bite so we would have a prosperous year ahead. After dinner, Jessica and I burst some more firecrackers until our faces were covered in ash! Finally, it was time for her to go back home to America. I was really sad to see my new friend leave after such an amazing couple of weeks together. Before she left, Jessica told me how blown away she was by all the cultural activities and family time. She said it felt like non-stop feasting and fun! I just smiled really big because I was so happy she loved her first Chinese New Year.I hope she can come back next year and we can celebrate it all over again!篇4My New Friend's First Chinese New YearHi, my name is Xiaoming and I'm 10 years old. I live in Beijing with my mom, dad, little sister Huihui, and my grandparents. This year, we had a really cool exchange student from America named Mike come stay with us for a few months. Mike is 11 years old and he's never celebrated Chinese New Year before! I was so excited to show him all the fun traditions.A few weeks before the holiday, my mom started decorating our apartment. We put up red lanterns, hung bright red bunting with gold characters, and made paper cut-outs of the zodiac animal for this year - the rabbit! My dad got a kumquat tree for our living room because kumquats are symbols of prosperity. We cleaned our whole house from top to bottom to get rid of any huihai or bad luck lingering around. One of my favorite traditions is getting ready for the New Year's Eve dinner. My grandma is an awesome cook and she spent days preparing all the symbolic dishes. There were dumplings shaped like ingots for wealth, whole steamed fish for surplus, long noodles for longevity, and sweet rice balls to represent togetherness and reunion. She even made vegetarian Buddhist dishes with nuts, fruits, and veggies formed into shapes like Buddha's hand citrus and lotus flowers. On New Year's Eve, the whole family gathered around the table. We turned on the television to watch the Spring Festival Gala, which is a huge variety show celebrating the new year. There were dancers, comedians, magic acts, and singers performing. My favorite part was the classic situation comedy sketches that always make me laugh so hard! After the dinner, my dad gave Mike, my sister, and me our hongbao - red envelopes stuffed with cash for good luck. Then we all headed outside to set off firecrackers and fireworks at midnight to scare away any evil spirits and welcome in the new year. It was so loud and the sky was bright with colorful sparks! Mike got really excited watching all the fireworks light up the neighborhood. The next morning, we had a special New Year's Day breakfast with more delicious foods like noodles, dumplings, rice cakes, and sweet rice balls. Even though we were all stuffed, my grandma made us eat a bit of everything on the table because it's bad luck not to! Then we watched more Spring Festival shows on TV and played poker games for cash and chocolate coin prizes. In the afternoon, my whole extended family came over for a huge hot pot dinner. We had thinly sliced meat and vegetablesthat we cooked right at the table in a big metal pot filled with savory broth. It was so fun eating family-style and using the hot pot skimmers and chopsticks to grab food from the pot. Mike hadn't used chopsticks much before but he picked it up really quickly! After dinner, the adult family members gave out hongbao to all the kids. My uncle gave me and Mike crispy 10 bills because he thinks it's funny to give weird novelty cash as our lucky money. By the end of the night, we had gotten over 100 each in our red envelopes! The next two weeks were still part of the Spring Festival holiday, so we had no school. Every few days we would visit my aunt's house or my grandma's older sister's house for another huge feast with the whole family. I showed Mike how to hang up Chinese New Year prints, set off more firecrackers, and watch the amazing fireworks shows coordinated by the city. We also went to Chinese New Year temple fairs in parks filled with snack vendors, games, and performers. My favorite part was going to see the centuries-old Longquan Temple. They had amazing acrobatics shows, dragon dances with students holding the weaving, wiggling dragon bodies, and monks doing death-defying stunts. Mike had neverseen anything like the lion dances where the performers do acrobatic moves while controlling the lion costume! On the fifteenth night of the new year, we celebrated the Lantern Festival. We made sticky rice balls, went out to watch fireworks and eat tons of delicious tangyuan (sweet rice balls), and carried our own lanterns around the park. Some of the lanterns were so cleverly designed as animals, buildings, or cartoon characters. When we got home, I showed Mike how to solve the riddles written on the lanterns for prizes.By the time Mike went home after Spring Festival, he had tried so many new foods, seen amazing shows and performances, and experienced all the most important Chinese New Year traditions. He said it was the most fun and memorable holiday celebration he'd ever had! I was really happy I got to share my favorite time of year with my new American friend.篇5My New Friend's First Chinese New YearMy name is Xiaoming and I'm 10 years old. I live in Beijing with my mom, dad, and little sister Huanhuan. This year, we had a really cool exchange student from America come stay with usfor the spring semester. His name is Michael and he's also 10 years old.Michael came to China in January, just a few weeks before Chinese New Year. In America, they don't really celebrate it as a big holiday. Michael told me the only Chinese New Year traditions his family did were eating at a Chinese restaurant and giving the kids a few dollar bills in red envelopes. He didn't know much about all the awesome activities and customs we have in China! As soon as Michael arrived, I started getting super excited to show him everything about Chinese New Year. I couldn't wait for him to experience all the fun traditions. I told him it's like Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Year's all rolled into one giant celebration!A few weeks before the holiday, my mom took us to the mall to get Michael a new outfit for New Year's Eve. We bought him a crisp white shirt, black pants, and a cool red jacket with gold designs on it. He looked so stylish! Mom also got him a pair of red silk boxers to wear, since red is considered a lucky color. Michael thought that was kinda weird at first, but I explained it's just what we do.While we were shopping, the mall was total chaos! There were people everywhere buying gifts, decorations, food, clothes, and other supplies for the upcoming holiday. The stores were playing traditional Chinese music and there were huge displays of plush dog mascots everywhere. Michael asked why there were so many dog toys and I told him 2018 was the Year of the Dog on the Chinese zodiac calendar. This is a really important part of the New Year's celebration!A few days before the holiday, our family did a thorough cleaning of our entire apartment from top to bottom. We had to sweep away any bad luck and make way for incoming good luck. We cleaned every nook and cranny, even washing the walls and bases of doors! Mom made sure Michael helped out too, saying "The more people who clean, the more luck we'll receive!" Michael worked up a sweat lugging our vacuum around, but he was a great sport about it.Once our home was spotless, we decked the halls with loads of decorations and auspicious signs. We hung up red lanterns, door couplets, upside-down fu characters, and my personal favorite - chunlian red couplets with black ink calligraphy proverbs on them. The cards with short poems looked so beautiful and elegant. We made sure to hang a duo-lian upsidedown on our front door so good luck can enter, but bad luck can't follow. Michael really dug how vivid and elaborate all the decorations were. The day before New Year's Eve, we set up our home's altar spaces devoted to ancestors and gods. We arranged sacrifices of fruit, delicious food, and faux money and incense for our venerated ones. I made Michael rub two sticks together to make a smokey cloud for the altar as a form of paying respect. He thought making his own cured smoke was the coolest thing ever!Later that night, we gorged ourselves on a delicious hot pot feast mom had been cooking for hours. All my favorite spicy foods and flavors filled the broth - huge prawns, slices of premium lamb, beef篇6My First Chinese New Year with an Exchange Student FriendWow, what an amazing Chinese New Year holiday! I'm so glad I got to share this special time with my new exchange student friend Anna from America. Anna came to live with my family for a few months while she studies Chinese language and culture. At first, I was a little nervous about having an exchange student staying with us. What if we couldn't understand eachother? What if she didn't like my family's customs and traditions? But my worries went away quickly after Anna arrived. She was so excited to learn all about China!A few weeks before the big holiday, my mom started decorating our home with red lanterns, poems on red paper scrolls, and a special upside-down Chinese phrase over our front door. When Anna asked what it meant, I got to explain that it's a saying welcoming the arrival of the Spring Festival and good luck for the new year. Anna thought the decorations looked so beautiful and festive! That made me proud of my Chinese traditions. My favorite part of getting ready was helping my mom prepare all the delicious foods. We made dumplings with traditional fillings like pork, cabbage, mushrooms, and shrimp. I taught Anna the pinching technique to crimp the edges shut. She wasn't very good at first and some of her dumplings looked kind of lopsided! But she kept practicing and got better each time. We also prepared bowls of dried fruits, nuts, and candies to snack on during the long holiday. The sweet lotus seed snacks were Anna's favorite.A few days before New Year's Eve, our family did a thorough cleaning of our whole home, from top to bottom. I explained toAnna that this sweeping away of the old and washing away of dust was a symbolic tradition to get rid of any bad luck and make way for incoming good luck in the new year. She thought that was a great idea and helped us clean every nook and cranny! On the day of New Year's Eve, we watched the amazing TV celebration show together as a family. Anna loved seeing all the singers, dancers, comedy acts, and fireworks. I got to teach her some words in Chinese like "guo nian hao" which means "celebrate the new year!" That night, we stayed up late setting off our own firecrackers and fireworks outside. The loud pops and bright colors filled the air as we cheered and welcomed the new year! I've never seen Anna so excited. Finally, the first day of the new year arrived! For breakfast, my dad fixed us a hot pot with all sorts of meat and vegetable dumplings, noodles, fish balls, mushrooms, leafy greens, and more. I made sure Anna tried everything. She said it was delicious but definitely too spicy for her! My dad just laughed and told her she'd get used to the flavors with more practice. Anna looked so funny with her red face after eating the chili oil dumplings! After breakfast, Anna got her first red envelope filled with cash from my parents. In our culture, elders give children moneyin these bright red pouches as a symbol of good luck and blessings for the new year. Anna was so surprised and thankful to receive this gift. She promised to spend it wisely on something special. That day, we bundled up and took Anna to the amazing New Year's temple fair in the center of our city. The whole place was decked out in lanterns, flowers, dazzling lights, and fancy displays. My favorite was always the dragon dances. This year's dragon seemed even longer than usual, with more dancers bending the bright colors and making it slither up and down the streets. Anna's eyes were wide with wonder as she watched the performers twisting and leaping to the loud drum beats. I could tell she had never experienced anything like this back in her hometown! We spent hours exploring all the stalls and booths at the fair.I helped Anna buy some delicious candied hawthorn fruits and sweet rice cakes. She got to try her hand at some traditional games like kicking a shuttlecock and catching little fish with a paper scoop. She won a cute panda bear stuffed animal as a prize! Anna picked out a beautiful handmade silk scarf to take home as a souvenir. Whenever she wears it, she says it will help her remember this amazing new year celebration. On the way home, we passed a small stage where a troupe was performing the classic Monkey King folk tale. Even though Anna couldn't understand all the dialogue, she loved watching the actors with their bright costumes and exaggerated martial arts movements. I whispered explanations of the famous story to her as we sat together transfixed by the performance. When we returned home that night, we were all exhausted but filled with happiness from such a wonderful day. Anna gave big hugs to me and my parents, thanking us for including her in our family's new year festivities. She said experiencing everything firsthand was so much better than just reading about Chinese New Year traditions in a textbook. Anna told us she would never forget the incredible food, colors, performances, and most of all the warm hospitality of our family. Hearing her kind words made me swell with pride for my amazing Chinese culture.I feel so lucky that I got to share this important holiday witha new friend like Anna. Even though we are from different countries, I could see we have many things in common too - like loving delicious food, beautiful traditions, lively celebrations, and surrounding ourselves with loved ones. Anna didn't just learn about Chinese New Year through her books and classes. Shemade precious memories that will stay with her forever. Maybe one day, she can share her own culture's special holidays with me in return! For now, I'm just happy I could give Anna a taste of my homeland's biggest and most wonderful festival. Guo nian hao!。

As a Chinese person, I am proud to introduce some of these special festivals. One of the most important festivals in China is the Spring Festival, also known as Chinese New Year. Thisfestival is celebrated on the first day of the lunar calendar, usually in late January or early February. During this festival, families gather together to enjoy a big feast, exchange gifts, and set off fireworks. It is a time for reunion and celebration.Another special festival in China is the Mid-Autumn Festival. This festival is celebrated on the 15th day ofthe eighth lunar month, usually in September or October. It is a time for families to come together and enjoy mooncakes,a traditional Chinese pastry. The moon is at its fullest and brightest on this day, and it is believed to be a symbol of reunion. In addition to these two festivals, there are many other special festivals in China, such as the Dragon Boat Festival, the Lantern Festival, and the Double Ninth Festival. Each festival has its own unique customs and traditions, and they all play an important role in Chinese culture.中文:中国是一个拥有丰富文化遗产的国家,有很多特殊的节日是中国独有的。

国庆趣事 英语作文

国庆趣事英语作文National Day is a special holiday in China. It is celebrated on October 1st every year to commemorate the founding of the People's Republic of China. During this holiday, people enjoy a week-long break from work and school, and many travel to different parts of the country to explore its rich culture and history. One of my most memorable National Day holidays was when I went on a road trip with my family. We drove from our hometown in the south to the north, stopping at various cities and towns along the way. It was a long journey, but we had a lot of fun exploring different places and trying new foods. One of the most interesting things we saw was a group of elderly people doing tai chi in a park. They were all dressed in matching red outfits and moved in perfect harmony. We watched in awe as they gracefully moved through the different poses, seemingly oblivious to the worldaround them.Another highlight of our trip was visiting the Great Wall of China. We arrived early in the morning, before the crowds, and were able to enjoy the stunning views of the wall stretching out into the distance. We walked along the wall for hours, taking in the history and beauty of this iconic landmark. One of the funniest moments of our trip happened when we stopped at a small restaurant for lunch. We ordered a dish called "spicy chicken," but when it arrived, we realized that it was not chicken at all, but rather a plate of spicy duck feet! We all laughed and tried a small bite, but none of us were brave enough to finish the dish.Overall, our National Day road trip was a wonderful experience. We saw so many beautiful places and met so many friendly people. It was a great reminder of the diversity and richness of Chinese culture, and a celebration of our country's history and achievements. I look forward to manymore National Day holidays in the future, and the opportunity to explore even more of this amazing country.。

在中国有各种各样的节日英语作文

在中国有各种各样的节日英语作文

在中国有各种各样的节日英语作文There Are All Kinds of Holidays in ChinaHello everyone! My name is Xiaoming and I'm a student in 5th grade. Today I want to tell you all about the many different holidays we celebrate in China throughout the year. We have so many fun and exciting festivals, it's hard to keep track of them all!One of the most important holidays is Chinese New Year, also called the Spring Festival. This is the biggest celebration of the whole year! Preparations start weeks in advance as families clean their homes from top to bottom to sweep away any bad luck and make way for incoming good fortune. On New Year's Eve, we have a huge reunion dinner with all our family members. My grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins all come over and we eat amazing dishes like dumplings, noodles, fish and so many other delicious foods. After dinner, we kids get red envelopes filled with money from the adults as a gift. Then at midnight, we set off firecrackers and fireworks to ring in the new year! The next two weeks are filled with celebrations like lion dances, dragon dances, and temple fairs. People put up reddecorations and couplets on their doors. I love eating sweet rice balls, watching the colorful performers, and trying my hand at game stalls during this time. Going to my relatives' homes for visits is also a big tradition where we snack on candy and snacks while catching up with our extended family.Another favorite holiday of mine is the Qingming Festival, which happens in early April. This is a time for remembering and honoring our ancestors. My family visits the graves of our deceased relatives, cleaning the gravesites and making offerings like food, incense, and paper money burnt for their spirits. It's a somber occasion but I don't mind because it lets me learn about my family history. Then in mid-April or May, we have Labor Day, which is a national holiday giving everyone a nice long break from work and school. My parents always take me on a short trip during this time to places like the beach, mountains, or to visit family in another city. Having a whole week off is such a treat! In late May, we celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival by eating delicious bamboo leaf-wrapped zongzi dumplings. There are also dragon boat racing competitions on rivers and lakes, which are super exciting to watch! At night, people light bonfires andset off fireworks just like during Chinese New Year. It's a lively and fun festival. The Qixi Festival, also called Chinese Valentine's Day, is next in early August. This romantic holiday is when lovers go on dates and women receive gifts from their boyfriends or husbands like flowers, chocolates, and jewelry. Even kids give each other small presents at school like stationery to show friendship. I always give little gifts to my best friends during this festival. My personal favorite is the Mid-Autumn Festival in September, where we get to eat delicious mooncakes while admiring the bright full moon together as a family. I love the soft, sweet fillings inside like lotus seed paste, red bean, and custard. There are also outdoor festivals with lantern displays, lion dances, and carnival games to play. It's a magical night where stories say the moon is at its brightest and most beautiful! In early October, we have National Day, which is a week-long holiday celebrating the founding of modern China. There are big events like flag raisings, festivals, and patriotic TV shows. Many families use this time to travel around China and visit different cities and tourist attractions. My class even gets to participate in school performances for the holiday celebrations. Finally, in late December or early January, we have the Laba Festival. This is when many people eat a special rice porridge called laba porridge that's cooked with various dried fruits, nuts, and even small dumplings inside. They say eating this porridge helps keep you healthy through the winter months. My grandma always makes a huge batch for our whole family.Phew, I think that covers most of the major festivals and holidays in China! As you can see, we have celebrations happening all throughout the year. Each one is filled with unique customs, special foods, colorful activities and its own important meaning. I feel so lucky to grow up experiencing the rich traditions and culture behind all of these amazing Chinese holidays. There's always something fun to look forward to!。
