Not only is it a reflection of his personality, it also shows how he intends to connect with his readers. Different styles of writing are used to fulfill different purposes. There are, in all, four types of writing. They are:•Expository•Persuasive•Narrative•DescriptiveThe writing style is chosen on the basis of the writer's goals. The sole purpose of this style is to present facts and figures to the readers, and explain the topic in a straightforward manner. It is an informative type of writing, and is commonly found in textbooks, magazines, newspapers, as well as the Internet. Since the author is only trying to inform the reader about the subject, his opinions are left out, thus letting the readers form their own opinions, with the help of the provided information.Tips for Expository WritingBe well-informed about the topic.Do not wander from the subject. Keep it concise, clear, and to-the-point.Provide facts and reasoning to support your arguments. It is also used in political speeches or reviews. Writers often support their opinions with a series of facts and figures. Some even present opposite views that can be debunked, so as to show the readers that both the sides of the argument have been considered. There are three main angles to persuasive writing - ethos, logos, and pathos. The writer appeals to ethos, when he wants to persuade the readers with the credibility and clarity of his content, logos when he applies logic, and pathos when he persuades them using emotions.Tips for Persuasive WritingDo a thorough research.Establish facts.Support your arguments by telling different stories, and quoting famous personalities.Debunk opposite views.Know your audience, and ways to convince them.End with a strong conclusion.Narrative WritingNarrative writing is used when the writer narrates a story through his point of view. He narrates the story by placing himself as one of the characters. This type of writing can be used for both, fiction and non-fiction. Poetry, novels, biographies, plays, screenplays, and stories often employ this style of writing.Tips for Narrative WritingInclude all parts of a story - introduction, plot, characters, settings, theme, climax, and conclusion.Use concise language.Write from a clear point of view.Descriptive WritingDescriptive writing is used to describe a particular person, event, place, object, experience, emotion, or situation in detail. This type of writing is frequently used in novels, stories, and plays.Tips for Descriptive WritingUse words that will paint a clearer picture.Focus on the tone. Keep it consistent overall.Describe the subject's effect on all the five human senses.Do not put too many details. Describe only what is necessary. There are a few subtypes of writing such as creative writing, copywriting, script writing, etc. It is important that a writer hasknowledge of all the types, so that he can employ them effectively in his content.Prajakta PatilSeptember 26, 2014Reprint PermissionWritingShare This ArticleShare Tweet Share Pin It。

The Evolution of English Writing Styles
The Evolution of English Writing Styles The evolution of English writing styles is a fascinating journey that spans centuries, reflecting the changing times, societal norms, and cultural influences. From the early days of Old English to the modern era of digital communication, the way we write and express ourselves has undergone significant transformations. In the early medieval period, Old English writing was characterized by its heavy use of Germanic languages and complex grammar structures. The writing style washeavily influenced by Latin and Greek, with manuscripts painstakingly written by scribes in monasteries. The content was predominantly religious in nature, focusing on biblical texts and religious teachings. As the Middle Ages progressed, the writing style transitioned to Middle English, marked by the works of famous poets like Geoffrey Chaucer. Middle English writing saw the emergence ofvernacular languages, making literature more accessible to a wider audience. Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, written in Middle English, is a prime example of the evolving writing style during this period. The Renaissance period brought about a revival of classical learning and a renewed interest in humanism. English writing styles during this time were heavily influenced by the works of Shakespeare, Marlowe, and Spenser. The language became more poetic, with a focus on expressing emotions and exploring the complexities of human nature. The Enlightenment era saw a shift towards rationality and empiricism, leading to a more straightforward and logical writing style. Writers like John Locke and Thomas Paine used clear and concise language to convey their ideas and arguments. The Age of Enlightenmentalso saw the rise of newspapers and periodicals, which further shaped the way information was disseminated and consumed. The 19th century marked the beginning of the Romantic movement, characterized by a focus on individualism, nature, and emotion. Writers like Wordsworth, Keats, and Byron used vivid imagery and lyrical language to evoke powerful emotions in their readers. The writing style of the Romantic period was a stark departure from the rationality of the Enlightenment, embracing subjectivity and imagination. In the 20th century, English writingstyles underwent a radical transformation with the advent of modernism and postmodernism. Writers like Virginia Woolf, James Joyce, and T.S. Eliot experimented with narrative techniques, stream of consciousness, and metafiction. The writing style became more fragmented and non-linear, challenging traditional notions of storytelling and language. In the digital age, English writing styles have continued to evolve with the rise of social media, blogs, and online platforms. The language has become more informal and conversational, with emojis, acronyms, and hashtags becoming commonplace. The way we communicate and express ourselves in writing has become more immediate and interactive, blurring the lines between formal and informal language. Overall, the evolution of English writing styles is a reflection of the ever-changing nature of language and communication. From the ornate manuscripts of the medieval period to the concise tweets of the digital age, the way we write and communicate continues to adapt and evolve with the times.。

心灵之旅英语读后感
心灵之旅英语读后感Reflections on "Journey to the Heart"The profound journey into the innermost recesses ofone's soul, as explored in "Journey to the Heart," is an unforgettable odyssey. This book, with its profoundinsights and poignant anecdotes, left me feeling a deep sense of connection to myself and the universe. The author's narrative style is engaging and thought-provoking, drawing the reader into a world where the boundaries between the physical and the metaphysical become blurred. I found myself constantly reflecting on my ownlife experiences, comparing them to the characters and situations described in the book. This comparison was not without its challenges, as the book often delves into dark and difficult topics such as loss, heartache, and self-doubt. However, these challenges were precisely what made the reading experience so enriching. One of the most striking aspects of the book is its emphasis on the importance of self-awareness. Through the stories of its characters, the reader is encouraged to delve deep into their own consciousness, to understandtheir thoughts, feelings, and motivations. This process is not easy, but it is necessary for personal growth and development. The book reminds us that only by truly understanding ourselves can we hope to find happiness and fulfillment.Another significant theme in the book is the concept of interconnectedness. The author suggests that everything in the universe is connected, and our actions have an impact on not just ourselves but also on others and the world at large. This idea is particularly relevant in today's world, where our actions have the potential to cause widespread change, both positive and negative. The book encourages us to be mindful of our actions and to strive for positive change, not just for ourselves but for the greater good. The characters in the book are multi-faceted and believable, each with their own unique traits andchallenges. I found myself particularly drawn to the protagonist, whose journey of self-discovery and growth was both heartbreaking and inspiring. Her struggles and triumphs were a powerful reminder of the resilience and strength that lies within each of us.The writing style of the author is both poetic and profound, often leaving the reader with more questions than answers. This approach, however, is what makes the book so engaging. It encourages the reader to think deeply about the topics discussed, to form their own opinions and interpretations. The language used is also beautiful and evocative, painting vivid pictures in the reader's mind and bringing the characters and settings to life.In conclusion, "Journey to the Heart" is a must-readfor anyone interested in exploring their inner selves and understanding the world around them. It is a book that will leave you feeling both humbled and enlightened, with a renewed sense of purpose and direction. The writing style comparison of “Two Kinds” and “Nettles”
Nettles is from the Canadian novelist Alice Munro. It…s about a feeling of subtle love between a middle-aged women and man. Two Kinds was written by Amy Tan. It focuses on the relationship between a mother and daughter in a Chinese-American immigrant family. There are some similarities and distinctions between their writing styles.
These two articles both use the first person narration. The fictional “I” and the real-life author are not the same person, but these two articles make me to believe that they are based on the author‟s own life experiences. Nettles depicts the figure of mind is very delicate, and the theme is narrated in a negligent way. Although the age and a greater gap between the main character, but I can still feel her faint of heart "passions, confusions and dilemmas". Heartwarming and bittersweet, Two kinds is a powerful portrayal for mother, daughters, and those that love them. I think that the style of the two articles addresses the reader directly. The first-person narration enables the author to capture the moment as if an eyewitness of the events, and can allow the reader to enter the mind of the narrator.
Apart from the simplicity of the two writing styles, Amy Tan and Alice Munro have their own special features also. Tan shows her great talents in her dialect and dialogue that bring her character to life. Tan has, to some extent, made some contributions to the trans-cultural communications between Chinese and English. She brough t Chinese pinyin, such as “Nikan”, and some expressions characterized by Chinese traditional concepts, such as “so ungrateful”, directly into English.
Compared with Tan‟s, there are more descriptions th an dialogues in Nettles, the plot of which is also less complicated than that of Two Kinds, but Munro successfully probes into the complicated feelings.
What impress me is the end of the two articles, they show the true theme. Maybe at first we cannot catch the meaning of the title until in the end. In Two Kinds, as he daughter realizes how her mother loves and appreciates her, she feels perfectly contended. In Nettles she‟s given up the love, because she knows the more love is the more mature understanding. The last sentences of these two which contain the narrators‟ epiphany are significant, by which the character‟s view is greatly altered.。
