【中文摘要】城隍信仰就是对于主管城池的神灵的信仰,是我国一种重要的民间信仰。

城隍神并不是自古就是有的,它是古人以沟渠神为雏形,结合佛、道二教的鬼神理论形成的具有中国特色的神灵。

本文分四个部分对城隍信仰进行研究。

第一部分,论述城隍信仰的起源。

城隍的原型是古代田间用于灌溉的沟渠。

城隍信仰是随着古代城市发展而形成的习俗,它起源于自然崇拜,是古代人们受趋利心理影
响的结果。

第二部分,论述城隍信仰的内容。

城隍信仰的内容丰富, 本文从城隍神、城隍的神性、城隍庙、城隍祭祀、城隍庙会五个方面进行论述。

第三部分,概述城隍信仰的演变,包括城隍信仰的地位和职能的转变两个方面。

城隍信仰的演变经历了漫长的过程,每个时期都很有特点。

第四部分,总结城隍信仰的性质、作用和地位。

城隍信仰是自然崇拜而非鬼神崇拜。

城隍信仰曾经在社会生活中产生过重要影响,具有权威、警醒、调节等作用。

城隍信仰是一种重要的民间信仰习俗,是中华民族的优秀文化遗产。

从民俗史的角度研究城隍信仰, 对城隍信仰的起源、内容、性质、作用、地位等问题进行探讨,以期对城隍信仰有一个科学的、完整的认识。

【英文摘要】The worship of the City God is an important folk belief in China which refers to people’s worship towards the City Gods. The City God didn’t exis t in ancient china. Based on the form of Ditch God, and combined the ghosts’theories from Buddhism and Taoism, the City God with Chinese characteristics was created by Chinese ancient people. This paper consists of four major parts to probe into the worship of the City God. The first part illustrates the origin of it. It originates from nature worship, and is the results of ancient people’s benefits psychology. The second part deals with its contents. The worship of the City God is abundant in content which is made up of the
City God, the divinity of the City God, the City temple, sacrifice to the City God, and the City temple fair. The third part discuses the evolutions of the worship which are composed of the status of the worship and its function conversion. These evolutions have experienced a long period with their own characteristics. The last part summarizes the property, function, and status of the worship towards the City God. It is worship towards nature not ghosts. And with its functions of authority, alerting and regulating, it has impacted social life significantly. It is an important folk worship custom, and a Chinese nation’s superior cultural heritage. From the perspective of Folk history, this study intends to probe into the origin, contents, property, function, and status of the worship of the City God, and expects a scientific and complete understanding of it.
