Rosa Salgado proves you’re never too old to learn a new trick or two. The 79-year-old grandmother graduated from Miami Dade College on Saturday with her two grandchildren David and Mauricio. The woman began her studies in 1995, learning English, so she could study more. This week she got her diploma with honors.
“My grandchildren, my family, they’ve grown up watching my activity and they are going to learn and fight in life,” Salgado said. Former professor Sara Bulnes said Salgado’s English was still limited, but her drive to learn was not. “When she came into my classroom her English was very limited and she struggled to learn th e language,” Porf. Bulnes said. The grandmother has become an inspiration to many students at the college because she determined to succeed.
“She had some difficulties in learning and she beat them all and she’s here graduating,” Bulnes said. “I’m very proud of her.” It’s been a long road to graduation for Mrs Salgado. She had to put her studies on hold and limit her study on various occasions to put her family first. In 2005 her daughter was in an accident, which made her stop studying. While studying Mrs Salgado worked in the college’s Early Childhood Center, caring for babies. “I’m so happy when I’m working with the infants,” she said.

diff icult. “It’s difficult to study because I have to take care of my health,” she said. Like how all the farewell letters are composed, Zhihong told his parents never to look for him, and warned them not to reveal his real identity to others.
Although the parents say that they aren’t quite sure why the boy ran away, they suspect it was because they took away his iPad the other day, meaning that he could no longer play the games that he would otherwise play at home.

If you frequently find yourself covered in mosquito bites, you can blame your genes. British scientists have discovered evidence that some people are simply born to attract mosquitoes. In experiments they found that people's body smell attracted the insects in different ways and this was strongly influenced by genetics.
The team, led by scientists at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, found that pairs of identical twins who share 100 percent of their genes are equally attractive to mosquitoes. Non-identical twins, who only share about 50 percent of their genes, are different in the degree to which they attract the bugs, the scientists found.
The research, published in the journal PLOS One, provides strong evidence that your chance of being bitten is genetically-driven. The results show that it has a similar link to genes as height and IQ.
The findings build on previous work linking body odour to the chances of being attacked by mosquitoes. The team think that some people produce a natural insect repellent that keeps them safe. They believe that, with further research, it may be possible to take a pill that encourages the production of this repellent odour.
Lead scientist Dr James Logan said: “By investigating the genetic mechanism we can move closer to using this knowledge for better ways of keeping us safe from bites and the diseases insects can spread through bites. If we understand the genetic basis it could be possible to develop ways to control mosquitoes better, and develop new ways to repel them. In the future we may even be able to take a pill which will increase the production of na tural repellents by the body.”
29. The scientists compare two kinds of twins to .
A. find something interesting
B. show how twins share genes
C. find how twins are the same
D. prove the influence of genes
30. Which of the following is not decided by gene ?

D. People’s growing tall
31. By studying the genetic mechanism, people can help .
A. prevent the insect spreading diseases
B. find a way to kill the dangerous insect
C. produce the pill to kill the mosquitoes
D. get a similar link with the knowledge

Discussions of studying abroad are often mixed with stories of learning more and beautiful scenery and a taste of foreign food. Studying abroad does offer a wide variety of benefits. It can bridge cultural gaps, promise great personal development for students and be an incredible learning opportunity. Still, the risks involved with studying abroad should inform the commonly stated benefits in order for students to make sound academic, as well as personal decisions.
Students often spend more money than they intend to while abroad. Banks often charge international fees for every abroad charge, students tend to pressure one another to eat out, and almost every sightseeing opportunity involves transit fees at the very least.
Additionally, the semester abroad may set students off track academically. The adjustment to a different grading scale is challenging enough without the constant pressure to travel every weekend and go out every night. It is impossible to know the right balance between studying in the same way one would at home and making the best of one’s abroad experience.
The path to international independence is not easy, and it is ridden with loneliness. While one can find friendly people almost anywhere, language and cultural barriers can reduce connection. Cultures often confuse one another. In other words, the studying abroad experience could give its participants a sense of liminality – but this liminality should be experienced in a conscious way.
Studying abroad can be a valuable experience for students, but more should be done to prepare students for the kind of risks and pressures they can face. Educational efforts by study abroad offices should not shy away from controversial topics and aspects of studying abroad like loneliness, financial pressures and culture shock. It is important for students to understand what studying abroad can be. Studying abroad is valuable, but students should understand from the outset what they’re getting into.
32. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Studying abroad is more complex than often expected.
B. Discussions of studying need paying special attention to.
C. Studying abroad does offer a wide variety of benefits.
D. Personal development is related with learning opportunity.
33. According to the passage, what may cause the students abroad to learn less efficiently?
A. The pressure of international fees.
B. The balance between studying and traveling.
C. The change of the grading scale.
D. The constant pressure to travel every weekend.
34. What is the writer’s suggestion of studying abroad?
A. The students must suffer from the problem of loneliness.
B. The students should get well prepared before starting.
C. The students should make best use of their own culture.
D. The students should get support from international banks.
35. How is the text organized ?
A. topic –- argument–-description
B. opinion –- discussion –- explanation
C. main idea –- examples –- conclusion
D. topic –- argument –- conclusion
