摘要: A method and apparatus for detecting and measuring localized corrosion of a metallic surface. An electrode array composed of the same material as the metallic surface is exposed to the same corrosion conditions as the said surface. The power coupling between the two electrodes is measured and the noise of the electrochemical current generated in the electrode array. The two measurements are compared, the noise of the electrochemical current increasing with respect to the coupling of current in the same extent that localized corrosion increases. The electrochemical noise current generated in the array of electrodes coupled noise and the associated potential of electrochemical corrosion is produced by the natural process of corrosion. The corrosion current is measured by comparison or correlation with the noise of the electrochemical current and the noise of the electrochemical potential, electrochemical potential being measured with a third electrode of the row, by a reference electrode or relatively inert electrode. Comparison or correlation between the electrochemical potential noise and electrochemical current noise gives a noise resistance or inversely proportional to the
corrosion current impedance. Measuring the corrosion or metal penetration is then obtained from the current measured corrosion noise determined by the resistance or impedance but modified by the degree of localization measured based on the electrochemical current noise and coupling detected current.
