I learned about life from an ant farm. When I was seven years old, my family created one. First, we put clean sa nd in a thin glass box, and then we waited for the live ants to arrive.Shortly after the chilly ants were dropped into the glass structure, they got to work making tunnels. I was amazed that each one knew exactly what to do.After hours of staring, I realized that the ants had assigned jobs. With my mom ' s help, I kept a diary of what happened each day and named the ants.
One day a tragedy struck the ant farm. The pages of the diary, still wrinkled where teardrops fell, indicate the depth of the tragedy. I had put my fa ce so close to the structure that Iaccidentally tipped it over, caving in all the tunnels.Although the ants survived their earthquake, one by one they began to die.I was terrified as I watched them give up their tunnel-building to carry the bodies to a corner of the farm.My mother reported that the ants were dying of "frustration". They simply could not stand the reality that their tunnels had been destroyed.
Although much time has passed, I still think of that ant farm.Mom had hoped it would teach me about the natural world, but it taught me much more.Over the years, I came to realize the ants were a study in the benefits of teamwork.Working together, they were able to create an amazing world for themselves.I also learned that they should be admired for their hard work.Day in and day out, each labored at their task. The ant farm showed that teamwork and perseverance are indeed two key ingredients to success. But there was an even larger lesson that I did not realize until recently: Adversity (不幸、灾祸) is a natural part of life, and must be accepted.Unlike the ants, humans cannot give up when they face disappointment.Unlike the ants, we have to realize that if a tunnel caves in, we just have to build another.Giving up, I say, is not a choice.
56.The family created an ant farm in a glass box because it was easy _____.
A.for the ants to live in B.to get sun light in

B.Humans cannot give up when facing tragedy.
C.People should admire anyone for their hard work.
D.We have to build another tunnel caves when it is in.
59.When did the writer draw a more important lesson from his experience?
A.When he was seven years old.
B.After Mom taught me about the natural world
C.When his mother reported the reason of the ants’ death.
D.Many years after the accident.

Many children first learn the value of money by receiving an allowance. Parents often give their children an amount of money that they may spend as they wish. The purpose is to let the children learn from experience at an early age when financial mistakes are not very costly.
A child may receive an allowance each week or each month. The amount is not so important. But parents should make clear what the child is expected to pay for with the money. At first, young children may spend all of their allowance soon after they receive it. If they do this, they will learn the hard way that spending must be done within a budget. Parents should not offer more money until the next allowance is to be given.
Older children may be responsible enough to budget larger costs like those for clothing. The object is to show young people that a budget demands choices between spending and saving. Many people who have written on the subject say it is not a good idea to pay your child for work around the home. These jobs are a normal part of family life. Paying children to do extra wor k around the home, however, can be useful. It can even provide an understanding of how a business works.
Allowances give children a chance to experience three things they can do with money. They can share it in the form of gifts or giving it to organizations. They can spend it by buying things they wan t. Or they can save it.
Saving helps children understand that costly goals require sacrifice: you have to cut costs and plan for the future. Requiring children to save part of their allowance can also open the doo r to future saving and investing. Many banks offer free savings accounts for
young people with small amounts of money.
60.The functions of allowances given to children are the following EXCEPT ______.
A. they can save more money for their future business
B. they can give them to charities
C. they may spend them on what they like
D. they can learn to deal with money
61.The underlined word "sacrifice" in the last paragraph means "_____".
A.计划

C. 选择
D. 放弃
62.How many advantages of saving has the passage mentioned?
A. 2
B. 3
C. 4
D. 5
63.What's the main idea of the passage?
A. Children should save part of their allowance.
B. Don’t pay your child for work around the home.
C. Allowance helps teach children early about money.
D. Parents should allow children to spend money as they wish.
C

People, who put a smiley face at the end of a message, in an attempt to show feeling, show no feeling. I wish there was a symbol for two fingers in the air.I had some bad news this week. My manager informed me of this news via email. It was like hearing about the death of a loved one via pigeon. Bad news should only ever be delivered face to face or voice to voice.
We seem to celebrate our numerous methods of communication, but really there is no communication at all. I talk to my plants more than I talk to my neighbors, I get text messages that tak e me three hours to read because they’re written like this: “Hi, I ope you hv a gr8 day. Call me La8tr.” I had an email from someone this week that read, “Da ut ov 2day are really annoying me!” Ut? I had to say this 20 times before I understood it. Youth h as now become ut. Haven’t we taken enough from them—now we have to take their letters?
I had an email recently from a girl who used to live over the road from me as a child. She wrote, “Hi Shazia, howz u? Im sure u used 2 live across the road from me. We s umtimes played tennis 2gever at the park and you were in your element. I am married now wiz 3 daughters.”Then, to my horror, she ended the email with: “Im now teachin in Leeds. Luv
Clare.”
Teaching? With English like this. It’s like saying you’re a train driver when you’ve never seen a train. It was like reading modern Morse code.
Getting bad news via email makes it seem so much worse than it actually is. Just a few lines, no emotion, no comfort, not really an explanation. Just a few cold hard words. It’s a nexcuse. Just write a few words and the problem of delivering it is no longer yours. A close friend recently told me she was very happy to announce she was getting married—and made the announcement by email. I don’t know how she didn’t fall off her chair w ith excitement while writing it. If you are really happy or really sad to announce something important, wouldn’t you like a human reaction? Some euphoria, elation, tears, a punch in the face?
I rec eive long text messages every day with information and exp lanations that I don’t bother reading. They’re boring, and annoy me. In the time it took someone to write me three laborious texts, they could have called, spoken to me, made some tea. People who put a smiley face at the end of a sentence, in an attempt to show feeling, show no feeling. I wish there was a symbol for two fingers in the air, because that’s the one I’d send back.
The telegram has been responsible for reporting world-shattering events when there were very few other options(选择权). Now we have options, and people opt for the least humane one.My mum, in an attempt to get down with the ut of today, asked me to teach her to text. Now she constantly texts me in block capitals, so it looks as if she is still angry and annoyed with me after all these years.
People don’t even write by hand any more. My doctor prints out prescriptions from his computer; even my mechanic prints out a receipt. I get typed Christmas cards and my friends send me emails. I get very excited when hand-written letters come through my door, only because they rarely do.
When I was at school, the girls used to write letters to each other, even though we sat side by side and spoke to one another all day. I think it was a way of expressing private things we were afraid to say when we were 14 and too shy. We used to write things like, “You are my best friend, can’t wait to sit next to you in math.”
I miss the personal method of communication. Once the pen was mightier than the sword, now it seems the keyboard is mightier than the pen.
67.According to the writer, which of the following can support her opinion?
A. She has been separated from all his classmates many years.
B. No doctors write prescriptions by hand because of computers.
C. In communication, we should write more letters than send messages.
D. Less shy than school girls, boys rarely write letters to their friends. 68.According to the passage, we can conclude that ________.
A. the writer is a person full of emotions and treasures friendship and affections
B. the writer becomes excited when she gets priceless gifts from other people
C. her classmates would write to each other because they couldn’t send messages
D. people put a smiley face at the end of a message just to show they are happy 69.Why does the writer mention the telegram?
A. Because she thinks the annoyance of reading text messages is originated from it.
B. Because we have more options to keep in touch with each other than ever before.
C. Because advanced technology partly takes the blame for lacking the human touch.
D. Becaus e she thinks humans today become colder with the development of society. 70.Which of the following best describe the tone of this passage?
A. Optimistic.
B. Critic.
C. Sympathetic.
D. Pessimistic.

作文:
Dear Trump,
How is everything going on with you? It has been half a year since I became a senior one student. I feel it an honor to be a student here, because there are many excellent teachers and outstanding students. I’m also fond of the learning environment here, where we can compete and learn from each other.
What upsets me is that although I have tried my best to study hard, I still find it hard to catch up with my classmates. I’m especially poor in English, so in the coming new
year, I’ll study harder. In addition, I’ll learn to share housework with my par ents who give all their love and care to me.
I am looking forward to hearing from you. Wish you happy!
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua。
