More than fifty years ago, Barbie Millicent Roberts first appeared in the world of toys. Since then, Barbie doll, as everyone called her, has become the most successful toy doll in history. Her parent, the Mattel Company, said that 90G of all American girls between 3 and 10 have at least one Barbie at home.
However, Barbie is facing some trouble at present. There are many similar dolls on the market in competition with her. Another doll named Bratz, for example, came to life about sixteen years ago. She looks more like today's pop stars with heavy makeup(浓妆) and miniskirts. And her company offers more kinds of clothes.
It seems that Barbie has lost her magic among older girls. "For younger girls, playing with a Barbie is much funnier. But when you get older, you want something smarter and more modern," says Vera Shepherd, a shop assistant of a toy store in New York.
It is good news that on the international market, Barbie is still No. 1. Although Mattel is selling fewer Barbies in the United States these years, sales in other countries are still going up. Mattel opened its first Barbie store in Shanghai, where girls can shop, eat, drink or even become fashion designers for their own Barbies.
Mattel is planning big celebrations for Barbie's 58th birthday. Fashion designers from all over the world have been called to make new dresses for Barbie. How long will Barbie stay popular in the world of toy dolls? It is hard to say, but 58 is surely not the age to retire(退休).

Can you swim? Do you like swimming? Yes? Well, how can you learn to swim? I think the best way is to go into the water and learn. I'm afraid you'll never learn to swim just by reading books about swimming or looking at others swimming. It's the same with the English study. We must practice, practice and practice.
Listening and speaking are very important for beginners. Especially for the children in English-
speaking countries. First, listen to others. Then, try to imitate and speak. We can listen to English programs on radio. You may just understand a few words. It doesn't matter. Just be relaxed, try to catch every word. Somebody may be a good listener. But he dare not speak. He's afraid of making mistakes. You know we sometimes make mistakes when we speak Chinese. Don't be afraid. We must be brave. If you really want to learn English well, you must try to speak with everyone as long as he knows English. Whether you know him or not is not important, when there's nobody to talk with, you can talk to yourself in English. It's interesting and also a good way to practice your spoken English. Remember, the more you speak, the fewer mistakes you'll make.
Reading and writing are more important for senior school students. First we must choose the books we're interested in. A lot of reading will improve your language sense. This is the most important.
Keep writing English diaries. We can also write English articles. You may even post them to English magazines. Don't be afraid of failure. Failure is the mother of success.
Easier said than done. Well, let's do more practice from now on. I'm sure you'll learn English well in this way.

Is stress from work or school making you sick? If so, you may belong to a growing number of people suffering from serious stress. Experts have called the problem the "Black Death of the 21st century." The original Black Death is estimated (据估计) to have killed 25 million people in Europe in the 14th century. While no one expects stress to be quite that deadly, it is still a serious matter.
A recent study has shown that stress can affect our ability to go to work. Stress is now the number one reason workers stay home sick four continuous (不间断) weeks or more.
What has led to the growing stress felt in the workplace? The bad economic situation is a major reason. Record numbers of layoffs (裁员)have increased workers' worry about losing their jobs. Layoffs have also increased the amount of work workers are expected to do. People then work longer hours, which often creates problems for them at home, causing even more stress.
According to Professor Cary Cooper, writer of over 120 books, stress often leads to changes in manner of acting. You may notice that you're having a hard time centering around things. You may find yourself losing your temper (脾气)easily. You might even seem to have lost your sense of humor. Other stress-related problems include difficulty in sleeping, overeating or drinking in excess.
Stress must be managed by workers themselves and by the company. Workers can take steps to manage stress. They can create a suitable plan and have breaks from time to time. Bosses can help by showing workers that their opinions may be important. They can also allow workers to have some say in decisions that matter their jobs.
Everyone should work together to look for ways to cope with on-the-job stress.
(1)What does the article point out about the "Black Death" today?
A. A kind of serious disease.
B. A bad social situation especially in your work place.
C. A relationship between you and your boss.

A. you have failed to manage your work
B. something goes wrong with your body or mind

(3)How do you notice that you have had the problem of stress?
A. You may spend time with friends and loved ones.
B. You are worrying about losing your job.
C. Your boss gives you a chance to express something valuable.
D. You are impatient with others.

Bury trip——June 18th, 2016
We will be leaving the Perse School at 13:45. Please be at the school gate 10 minutes early. If you are late, you may miss the bus and not be able to go! If you miss the bus, you won't get your money back. The bus is planned to arrive in Bury at 14:30, although this depends on traffic. You will have free time to walk around and we will meet at the same location where we arrived at 17:15 to return to the Perse School by about 18:00.
Things to do
Visit the Abbey
The Abbey is the ruin (废墟)of a church which was built more than 1,000 years ago. There are many nice gardens in it. And next to the Abbey, there is a big new church.
Have a drink in the Nutshell
This little bar is famous in Britain because it is officially (正式地)the smallest bar in the country. Good things are put in small bags, and the Nutshell serves some of the area's finest beer, as well as fascinating photos.
Have a look at a beer shop
At the Greene King shop you can taste and buy some of the local beer, as well as food such as potato chips. There are also clothes available to buy.
