Unit 1

Why Paul Changes his Job

Paul is man of achievemen t, who is a specialist in medicine. But now he devotes his life to welfare projects and his behaviour has won respect of all. When he refers to why he specializes in welfare rather than his former career, he says all this inspiration comes from his mother. Outspokenly speaking, he led a happy life in his childhood, though his family was not rich. That was because he had a kindness mother, who worked day and night to support her family. His mother also liked to help people and every time she came across a beggar, she would deliver some food to him. Her mother was also considerate and the weather was cold, she would provide the poor with some clothes. Paul goes in for welfare to carry on his mother's will, which he thinks would inspire the young generation.

Unit 2

Dr. Yuan's Super Hybrid Rice

Thanks to city's expansion and the pollution, the output of the crop and grain in the world has reduced by nearly a half in the past decades. More than 800 million people have to struggle against hunger, which may lead to some problems in the world. Nowadays, many countries try to feed their people with limited soil, among which Dr. Yuan's solution may be the most successful one. Because of his super hybrid rice, farmers are producing twice as large as before, which means 22%of the world's have got rid of hunger, a disturbing problem. And now Dr. Yuan is focusing on his anther dream: to export his rice so that it can be grown around the globe.

Unit 3

The Influence of Mr. Li's Humor

Humor is the best medicine in our life. It not only amuses somebody on some occasions, but also helps us overcome difficulties. It is fortunate that we have Mr. Li, a humorous teacher. Mr. Li is an ordinary teacher with a mustache, but I think he is outstanding, because he is good at entertaining us. He always entertains us with his charming punchlines, which brightens us. He is also a good performer, and you may feel astonished that he can behave like that. When we feel bored, he will share some comedies with us. Every time we feel depressed, he always pick out his funny stories to amuse us. Up to now we are content with his Chinese class. Believe it or not, there is no failure in our class and everyone becomes confident and optimistic.

Unit 4

My Study in Senior School

Before entering senior high school, I represented my classmates to visit City No.1 Middle School, my present school. The major leader of our school showed us around the campus, among which we visited the teaching buildings, dormitories and canteen. In general, City No.1 Middle School made a deep impression on me. On September 1st, 2012, I was hopeful about my bright future approaching City No.1 Middle School. I felt at ease and it seemed as if I had met my old friend. As a new student here, I am curious about everything to do my school, especially two teachers from foreign countries. In order to improve our spoken English, our school invited two foreign teachers. One is from Spain and the other is from Italy. Their lively lectures which contain rich facial expressions and their culture truly attract us. Of course, thanks to cultural differences, we always misunderstand each other, but we simply smile rather than feel a lot of anger towards it.

A Tour to Heyuan Dinosaur Museum

Last week, we classmates paid a visit to Heyuan, Guangdong Province, whose tourism is important in the city's economy. There are many places where visitors have various things to see and amuse. It is said that Heyuan is famous for its dinosaur museum, so we decided to make our way to this museum. After having our admission, we got close to the dinosaurs. The museum is modelled after dinosaurs, a kind of old creature dying out millions of years. Wherever we went, we could see a variety of dinosaurs, which lived in the jungles in the Jurassic.
