一、阅读理解
In 1933 an unknown A merican c alled C larence Nash went to see the filmmaker Walt Disney. He had an unusual voice and he wanted to work in Disney's cartoon(动画片)film for children.
When Walt Disney heard Nash's voice, he said, "Stop! That's our duck!"
The duck was the now-famous Donald Duck, who first appeared in 1934 in the film T he Wise Little Hen. Donald lived in an old houseboat and wore his sailor jacket and hat. Later that year he became a star after an eight-minute Mickey Mouse film. The cinema audience liked him because he was lazy and greedy, and because he lost his temper very quickly. And they loved his voice when h e became angry with M ickey's eight nephews. Soon D onald w as more popular than Mickey Mouse himself, probably because he wasn't a goody-goody like Mickey.
In the 1930s, 40s and 50s Donald and his friends Mickey, Goofy and Pluto made hundreds of Disney cartoons. He also made educational films about the place of the USA i n the world and safety in t he home. Then in 1966 Donald Duck a nd h is voice disappeared---there were no more new cartoons.

Background music may seem h armless, but it can have a powerful effect on those who hear it.
Recorded background music first found its way into factories, shops and restaurants in the USA. Very soon it spread to other parts of the world. Now it is becoming difficult to go shopping or eat a meal without listening to background music.
To begin with, background music was intended simply to create a soothing (舒适的)atmosphere. Recently, however, it's becoming a big business. An A merican marketing expert has shown that music can boost(提升)sales or increase factory production by as much as a third.
But it has to be the light music. Lively music has no effect at all on sales. Slow music can
increase receipts(收入)by 34%. This is probably because shoppers slow down and have more opportunity to spot items they would like to buy. Yet, slow music isn't always the answer.
