Part One: Purpose of Teaching
In this unit, we will focus on business communication. We will learn relevant vocabulary and expressions. We will also learn how to express existence and inexistence in oral communication. Oral activities in different forms will be conducted to practice these language skills.

ⅠLead-in (10 minutes)
●Teachers make the students define business communication and list the possible channels through which business communication can be conducted.
Activity 1 Listening
●Direct students to check those familiar words and expressions. Encourage them to
name any word which they think is new and briefly explain it.
●Direct students to read questions first and predict what they are going to hear.
●Play the recording.
●Check answers and explain.

Activity 1 Oral Functions
●Ask students to mark expressions indicating “existence” and “inexistence” in the
sentences.

Task 3 Speaking
●Prepare several groups of words related to the possible topics that may be discussed by students. Advise them to focus on just one topic or two topics.
●Prepare paper chips with student numbers or names. Ask the students to pick at least 5 chips at random. They should only interview those students whose names are listed.

Part Four: Oral Practice (10 minutes)
Oral practices listed as follows are optional.
Part 1 Activity 3 Speaking
●Teachers are expected to require the students to work in groups, and then ask one
or two groups to present their own discussions.

●Make students active participants in the class.
●Allow students time to share their ideas.
●Circulate and help students with vocabulary needed.
●Keep the whole class engaged.

●Direct students to make up an interview with partner using the useful expressions
given.
Part 4 Activity 1 Task 2 Oral Practice
●Divide the class into two parts, and have a debate with each other on this issue. Part 4 Activity 2 Task 2 Oral Practice
●Have students read the conversation.
●Have them work in pairs and make up a similar dialogue. Encourage them to
follow the model dialogue and use the useful expressions they have learned.
Part 5 Entertainment
●Enjoy the business joke and see why this happens.
Part Five: Assignment
1) Choose one of the oral practices in Part Four and have students prepare for it after
class.
2) Have the students make a speech on business communication, using the
information we have learned in this unit.
