As I was browsing through the library, I came across a book titled "Essays: Being a Selection from the Prose Works of Charles Lamb." It was a collection of essays and sketches, written in the 19th century by Charles Lamb, a celebrated English writer. Intrigued, I decided to borrow the book and give it a read.As I started going through the essays, I was struck by the elegance of Lamb's writing. His prose was refined, yet conversational. He had a way of using words that paintedvivid images, and his sense of humor and wit was evident throughout his work. One of my favorite essays in the collection was "The Superannuated Man." In this essay, Lamb writes about his retirement from a clerkship position at the age of 60. He explores the feelings of isolation and uselessness that come with retirement, as well as the newfound freedom and leisure time that it presents.Another standout essay was "Christ's Hospital Five and Thirty Years Ago." In this piece, Lamb reflects on his experiences at a boarding school as a child, and compares them to the current state of education. He talks about theharsh discipline and the lack of individual attention that he and his fellow students received, and contrasts it with the more nurturing and personalized education of his time. What struck me the most about Lamb's essays was the way he used his own experiences and observations to comment on broader social issues. His writing was not just entertaining, but also thought-provoking. He was able to convey his opinions and ideas in a way that was both accessible and sophisticated. As I finished reading the collection, I felt a sense of admiration for Lamb's mastery of the essay form. His writing was not just a record of his personal experiences, but also a commentary on human nature and society. I was left with a newfound appreciation for the power of words and the art of the essay.Overall, reading Charles Lamb's essays was a rewarding experience. His writing is a testament to the enduring value of the essay form, and it serves as a reminder of the importance of using one's own voice and experiences to comment on the world around us. I would highly recommendpicking up a copy of this collection and immersing oneself in the world of Charles Lamb's writing.。

英语散文经典读后感English Prose Classic Reading Response。

As an avid reader of English prose classics, I have always been fascinated by their timeless beauty and profound insights. These literary works have the power to transport us to different worlds, challenge our perspectives, and ignite our imagination. In this reading response, I will share my thoughts on the impact and significance of English prose classics.English prose classics, such as Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" and Charles Dickens' "Great Expectations," are not merely stories; they are windows into the human condition. Through their vivid characters and intricate plotlines, these novels explore universal themes of love, ambition, social class, and personal growth. They offer us a glimpse into the complexities of human nature and the struggles we all face. One aspect that sets English prose classics apart is their ability to transcend time and remain relevant to contemporary readers. Despite being written centuries ago, these works continue to resonate with audiences today. The characters and their dilemmas are still relatable, and the themes explored are still pertinent. This timelessness is a testament to the enduring power of great literature. Moreover, English prose classics often serve as mirrors that reflect the society in which they were written. They provide valuable insights into the historical, cultural, and social contexts of their time. For instance, Charlotte Bronte's "Jane Eyre" sheds light on the position of women in Victorian England and challenges the prevailing notions of gender roles. By examining these novels, we gain a deeper understanding of the past and how it has shaped the present.Another remarkable feature of English prose classics is their exquisite use of language. The authors' mastery of words and their ability to craft beautiful sentences and paragraphs is awe-inspiring. Reading these works is like savoring a fine piece of art; every sentence is carefully constructed, every word meticulously chosen. The languageitself becomes a source of joy and inspiration, leaving a lasting impact on the reader's mind.Furthermore, English prose classics often offer profound philosophical and moral insights. Through the dilemmas faced by their characters, these works explore fundamental questions about the nature of humanity, the meaning of life, and the pursuit of happiness. They encourage us to reflect on our own values and beliefs, challenging us to consider different perspectives and reevaluate our own lives. In conclusion, English prose classics hold a special place in the literary canon for their enduring impact and significance. They provide us with a deeper understanding of the human condition, offer insights into the past, and provoke thought and introspection. Through their timeless language and profound themes, these works continue to inspire and captivate readers across generations. As we delve into the pages of these classics, we embark on a journey of self-discovery and enlightenment.。

Thanks to Sewell, I now think about the animal-human relationship from both the human and the animal’s point of view. The inspiration for Anna Sewell’s novel was drawn from her own relationship with horses. Anna Sewell was born on March 20th, 1820 in Norfolk, England and wascrippled while still very young. Due to her disability, she relied on horse-drawn carriages and grew to love horses as a result. She also became appalled by the careless and cruel treatment horses often received from humans and determined to write a book.. In the second year of work on the book, she was told that she had only eighteen months to live, but she persevered in order “to induce kindness, sympathy and an understanding treatment of horses.” Five years later, she was still working on Black Beauty, her only book. Unfortunately, Sewell died a few months after publication and never learned of the book’s huge success. Black Beauty formed an impassioned plea for animal rights at a time when such a notion had been dismissed as ridiculous. The novel portrayed the real condition of working horses living in Britain during the Victorian Era. In that time period, the wealthy thought that their horses were treated well because they never stepped into the stable. In order to call people’s attention to horses’hard life, Sewell tells the story through the first-person narrative voice of a horse. This innovative personification of an animal made the booka real success. Readers heard the stories straight from the horse’s mouth, literally, as an animal spoke of extremes of joy and suffering. People were shocked by the truth exposed by the novel and changed their attitudes towards animals.Sewell formed the novel with three kinds of characters: Black Beauty, Ginger and other farm animals. Through their different experiences, I saw similarly painful lives led by the animals. This method made the earnest appeal for animal rights become more and more persuasive. As a domestic animal, Black Beauty was continuously sold from one family to another. Over the years Beauty enjoyed good masters but also endured mean ones. Sometimes, he was cared for and at other times tortured. In the end, everything turns out all right in a story that is so tender and yet meaningful. His story was so vivid that caught the readers’ heart. The novel brought people laughter and tears and also enlightened them to understand animals at the same time.Animals cannot speak so understanding is significant to them. Once, for example, Beauty wasdrawing the carriage to a wooden bridge. The bridge was flooded out in the river and John, the groom, was not aware that it was cracked. But the quickly realized that something was wrong because of Beauty’s abnormal behavior. Momentarily, a man shouted to them, “Stop! Stop!…The bridge is broken in the middle. If you come across, you’ll fall in the river!” Beauty had saved John. However, if John had not tried to understand what Beauty wanted to tell him, there would definitely have been an accident. I learnt from the story that understanding animals is not only essential to them but is also beneficial to us ourselves. In order to emphasize the importance of understanding animals, the writer created Ginger as a negative example. Ginger was the friend of Beauty who led a much more miserable life than Beauty did. Once she told Beauty: “When I was trained, several men caught me in a corner of the field and one held my nose so hard that I could only just breathe. Then others pulled my mouth open to put the bit in, and I was pulled along and beaten from behind. They didn’t give me a chance to understand what they wanted.”Poor Ginger, kindness was all she needed. She was frightened seriously so she bit or kicked to defend any possible attacks. The more she was whipped the more she bit, the more she bit the more she was whipped. In this way, both animals and humans were trapped in a terrible cycle made by human beings. Consequently, humans were frequently hurt by frightened horses. The author thus portrayed Ginger to tell me that harming animals may also harm us.When I have a sketchy look at other farm animals the writer depicts, it is simple to find more examples of cruel things humans do to animals out of ignorance. This part of the novel expanded people’s scope from only horses to all the animals and deepened the plea for animal rights and that made the novel more successful.Sir Oliver, the old horse, had a 20-centimeter-long tail. His beautiful long tail was cut off just because the owners thought it was fashionable. Humans never understood how pained a horse is when he can’t brush flies off his sides and back legs.Sky, the terrier, had had a part of her ears shearedoff. Her owners wanted to make her look cute and ignored that parts of her ears were intended to protect the delicate parts from injury. “Why don’t people cut their own children ‘s ears to make them look lovely?” Asked the poor dog angrily. Yes, why can’t we think from the animals’ perspective?“Black Beauty is a heartbreaking story,” I thought when my mother read it to me when I was a child. As a child I was haunted by the described cruelty to those horses. Now I deeply hope, in the future, we will be able to tell our children that because of the book, and others like it, such mistreatment of animals no longer exists. And they just need to enjoy the novel as a beautiful historical documentary recording the progress of upholding animal rights. At that time, the dream of the author will have come true and her hard work will have been rewarded.。

金波散文作品欣赏《猪蹄儿灯》读后感

金波散文作品欣赏《猪蹄儿灯》读后感【中英文实用版】Jin Bo"s "Pig"s Trotter Lantern" is a piece of prose that not only carries the authentic flavors of Chinese countryside but also illuminates the deep emotional bonds between people and their traditions. The essay takes the reader on a nostalgic journey, revisiting the simpler times of the author"s childhood, where the making and enjoyment of the pig"s trotter lantern were central to the Spring Festival celebration. The vivid descriptions of the process of creating the lantern from a pig"s trotter, the intricate details of the village life, and the anticipation of the festival, all come together to form a tapestry of cultural heritage. It is not merely a narrative of crafting a lantern; it"s a reflection on the passage of time, the changing of seasons, and the enduring spirit of community. The essay evokes a sense of longing for a time when life was less complicated, and traditions were cherished as a way of life.Jin Bo"s prose is poignant, painting a picture of a bygone era that still resonates with the importance of family and the joy of simple pleasures.Reading "Pig"s Trotter Lantern," one cannot help but feel a connection to their own cultural roots and the universal human experience of celebrating traditions that link us to the past.金波的《猪蹄儿灯》不仅仅是一篇洋溢着中国乡村风情的散文,它更照亮了人与传统之间深厚的情感纽带。

培根散文集读后感英文版

培根散文集读后感英文版

培根散文集读后感英文版Of Study By Francis BaconSTUDIES serve for delight, for ornament, and for ability. Their chief use for delight, is in privateness and retiring; for ornament, is in discourse; and for ability, is in the judgment, and disposition of business. For expert men can exe-cute, and perhaps judge of particulars, one by one; but the general counsels, and the plots and marshalling of affairs, come best, from those that are learned. To spend too much time in studies is sloth; to use them too much for ornament, is affectation; to make judgment wholly by their rules, is the humor of a scholar. They perfect nature, and are perfected by experience: for natural abilities are like natural plants, that need pruning, by study; and studies themselves, do give forth directions too much at large, except they be bounded in by experience. Crafty men contemn studies, simple men admire them, and wise men use them; for they teach not their own use; but that is a wisdom without them, and above them, won by observation. Read not to contradict and confute; nor to believe and take for granted; nor to find talk and discourse; but to weigh and consider. Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested; that is, some books are to be read only in parts; others to be read, but not curiously; and some few to be read wholly, and with diligence and attention. Some books also may be read by deputy, and extracts made of them bothers; but that would be only in the less important arguments, and the meaner sort of books, else distilled books are like common distilled waters, flashy things.Reading make a full man; conference a ready man; and writing an exact man. And therefore, if a man write little, he had need have a great memory; if he confer little, he had need have a present wit: and if he read little, he had need have much cunning, to seem to know, that he doth not.Histories make men wise; poets witty; the mathematics subtitle; natural philosophy deep; moral grave; logic and rhetoric able to contend. Abeunt studia in mores. Nay, there is no stand or impediment in the wit, but may be wrought out by fit studies; like as diseases of the body, may have appropriate exercises. Bowling isgood for the stone and reins; shooting for the lungs and breast; gentle walking for the stomach; riding for the head; and the like.So if a man's wit be wandering, let him study the mathematics; for in demonstrations, if his wit be called away never so little, he must begin again. If his wit be not apt to distinguish or find differences, let him study the Schoolmen; for they are cymini sectors. If he be not apt to beat over matters, and to call up one thing to prove and illustrate another, let him study the lawyers' cases. So every defect of the mind, may have a special receipt.。

insouciance散文读后感

insouciance散文读后感

insouciance散文读后感英文回答:After reading the essay on "insouciance," I was struck by the author's insightful exploration of the concept. The essay delves into the idea of insouciance, which refers to a carefree and nonchalant attitude towards life. The author presents a thought-provoking analysis of the benefits and drawbacks of embracing insouciance in our daily lives. One of the main points made in the essay is that insouciance can be liberating. By adopting a carefree attitude, individuals can free themselves from the burdens of stress and worry. This resonated with me as I often find myself caught up in the pressures and demands of everyday life. The essay reminded me of the importance of taking a step back and not taking everything too seriously. However, the author also acknowledges the potential downsides of insouciance. While it can provide temporaryrelief from stress, it may also lead to a lack of ambition and motivation. The essay highlights the importance of finding a balance between carefree living and being responsible. This struck a chord with me as I have often struggled with finding this equilibrium.Furthermore, the essay explores the cultural and societal implications of insouciance. It suggests that in a world driven by productivity and achievement, embracing insouciance can be seen as a rebellion against societal norms. This idea challenged my preconceived notions about success and made me question the value we place on constant striving.Overall, the essay on insouciance left me with a sense of introspection. It prompted me to reflect on my own attitude towards life and to consider the benefits and drawbacks of embracing a carefree mindset. It reminded me of the importance of finding a balance between responsibility and enjoying the present moment.中文回答:阅读完关于“漠不关心”的散文后,我对作者对这一概念的深入探索印象深刻。

给抱怨生活者的信散文读后感

给抱怨生活者的信散文读后感

给抱怨生活者的信散文读后感英文回答:After reading the letter from the complainer about life, I can't help but reflect on my own experiences and thoughts. Life is indeed full of challenges and difficulties, and itis natural for us to complain from time to time. However,it is important to remember that complaining alone will not solve any problems. Instead, it is more productive to take action and find ways to improve our situation. One thing I have learned is that life is what we makeof it. We have the power to choose how we react todifferent situations and events. Complaining about things that are beyond our control will only drain our energy and bring negativity into our lives. Instead, we should focuson what we can change and find solutions to the problems we face. For example, if someone is constantly complaining abouttheir job, instead of just venting their frustrations, they could take steps to improve their situation. They could update their skills, network with others in their industry, or even consider a career change. By taking action, they are more likely to find a job that brings them satisfaction and fulfillment.Another important aspect to consider is gratitude. It is easy to get caught up in the negative aspects of life and overlook the positive. However, by cultivating a mindset of gratitude, we can shift our focus to the good things in life. This doesn't mean ignoring the challenges, but rather acknowledging and appreciating the blessings we have. For instance, if someone is complaining about their financial situation, they could take a moment to reflect on the things they do have. They may have a loving family, good health, or supportive friends. By recognizing and appreciating these blessings, they may find a renewed sense of contentment and happiness.中文回答:阅读了那封关于生活的抱怨信后,我不禁反思起自己的经历和想法。

rip van winkle读后感英文

rip van winkle读后感英文

rip van winkle读后感英文After reading "Rip Van Winkle," I am left with a myriad of thoughts and emotions swirling in my mind. The story, written by Washington Irving, is a timeless classic that delves into themes of change, tradition, and the passage of time. As I reflect on the tale of Rip Van Winkle, I cannot help but be captivated by the profound messages hidden within its pages. One of the central themes of "Rip Van Winkle" is the concept of change. Rip, a simple and amiable man, finds himself waking up after a long slumber to a world vastly different from the one he knew. The village he once called home has transformed, and the people he once knew have all passed away. This theme of change resonates deeply with me, as it reminds me of the inevitable nature of life. Just as Rip experienced a dramatic shift in his surroundings, we too must navigate the ever-changing landscape of our own lives.Another theme that struck me while reading "Rip Van Winkle" is the idea of tradition. Rip is portrayed as a man who is content with his simple way of life and has a deep respect for tradition. However, as the story unfolds, we see how Rip's adherence to tradition can also be a hindrance to his personal growth. This dichotomy between tradition and progress is a thought-provoking concept that invites readers to reflect on the role of tradition intheir own lives. The passage of time is another prominent theme in "Rip Van Winkle." Rip's long sleep serves as a powerful symbol of the relentless march of time. As I followed Rip's journey through the years, I couldn't help but ponder the fleeting nature of life and the importance of seizing the present moment. The story serves as a poignant reminderthat time waits for no one and that we must make the most of the time we are given. In addition to these themes, "Rip Van Winkle" is also a tale of redemption and self-discovery. Rip's journey ofself-realization and growth is both inspiring and relatable. As he awakens to a world that has moved on without him, Rip is forced to confront his own shortcomings and make amends for past mistakes. This theme of personal transformation is a powerful reminder that it is never too late to change and embark on a new path.As I reach the conclusion of my reflections on "Rip Van Winkle," I am struck by the timeless relevance of this classic tale. The themes of change, tradition, and the passage of time continue to resonate with readers of all ages, inviting us to reflect on our own lives and the world around us. Through the character of Rip Van Winkle, Washington Irving has crafted a story that is not only entertaining but also thought-provoking and deeply meaningful. In conclusion, "Rip Van Winkle" is a literary masterpiece that continues to captivate readers with itsrich themes and timeless messages. As I close the book and ponder the story of Rip and his journey of self-discovery, I am reminded of the importance of embracing change, honoring tradition, and making the most of the time we are given. Washington Irving's words have left a lasting impact on me, and I am grateful for the opportunity to delve into the world of "Rip Van Winkle."。

1 The essences of prose are scattered and not scattered. Reading a good essay is like an oasis in a hot, dry desert filled with joy and worship. Zhu zi-qing's prose "lotus pond moonlight will I really push the palace of the prose, but just admire his style of writing, did not stir up feelings of ripples, as if the heart of a piece of heaven and earth is empty, and Lin's prose is always cause the resonance of thought. Lin qingxuan brought me the touch and reverence, not because he was a writer, but his writing style all caught my heart, as if the lost heart found the clear and bright direction. My everything, no longer stray, but have their own positioning. Taiwan is a buddhist faith, and Lin qingxuan's thoughts also melt into the buddhist texture. Buddha once said: all karma. But my first encounter with it was wonderful and hazy, perhaps it was the creation of the edge. Flying thoughts, in the leap of words, free breathing. Words can reflect a person's character, in the shuttle, you will find that optimism is his main theme. Despite his humble origins, he believed in his dream. He always regarded difficulties and setbacks as his life experiences, and his childhood was the source of his writing. He precipitated like the sand of suffering, and gradually honed his soul into a dazzling pearl, not each one worthy of those suffering. As Nietzsche once said, life is a blanket, whole life. His prose is simple and elegant, while his quiet is his most colorful. A restless heart will be cleansed. It is not the absence of beauty, but the lack of the eyes that find beauty. We desire to communicate, but the mind is imprisoned, how can we resolve the haze? By communicating with your heart through his heart, the power will flow through the tunnel intoyour soul. Holding a book in hand, thinking of each word, it will warm the heart. It was his destiny, and his character, but he warmed my world with a voice. Buddha said: a flower world; One leaf and one bodhi. There is no relative answer, so long as it meets the inner feelings, it can achieve peace of mind. In this materialistic society, who also is not who's who, and Lin words express the connotation of the is the root of my soul, don't want the lonely reality buried the inner peace. Time in the rotation, the calendar page again, and Lin's prose will stand the test of time rings, through his prose, I know all it all depends on your own life and the view of the mind. A sharp thorn can be seen under the flower, and on the thorn I can see a flower full of sunshine. The purpose of reading is not necessarily to increase the amount of knowledge, but sometimes to learn how to realize the value of life is very crucial. In fact, the radius of life can be expanded more and longer as water, and in his prose, I am like a tree that reads the sun and rain, and begins to show signs of growth in the sunlight. Lin qingxuan's love for his mother is simple and simple, but it is the most authentic portrayal of life. He has a wandering heart, which is doomed to be like the fate of the kite, I do not know where it will fall. To read his prose is to count his life, and to be immaculate. 林清玄散文集英文读后感 2 The most beautiful petals are soft, the greenest grassland is soft, the vast sea is soft, the boundless sky is soft, the clouds that fly in the sky are the softest... When touched and Lin essays, I have to like to harvest a baptism of mind, get enlightenment about his life and feelings, body odor from the text reveal personal accomplishment and quality, taste the lovers of infiltration by words to the word and emotion. Turn over the elegant love rhyme book with light ink fragrant, can go into Mr. Lin's inner world to see. Hopes for a peaceful good life yearning and hope, out of the din blundering social reality, full of the flavor of lotus flowers and grass, Lin to take out your prose and Lin, melodious hum a tune tune, as with the idyllic beauty to enjoy. He will purify the inner world of the ups and downs and decadence, the person will have the high purity of Mr. Lin's quality and personal cultivation, this will have the effect that we hope. I think that Lin qingxuan himself is like a crystal clear lotus flower, out of the silt and not dye, unwashed, not the devil, straight, not rambling. And his words are so pure, clean, vivid, let a person stays well, like with a masters in a conversation, like a flowing stream of water flowing into people's hearts, bring us deep enlightenment thoughts and his life. I like to sit on the sofa in the quiet night, holding this collection of essays, and savoring the beautiful and flowery language. At this time, if you play a song with a deep connotation, with a cup of freshly soaked tea, the artistic conception is already overflowing. One flower a world, one leaf a bodhi. It feels like Mr. Lin's total "zen" is not open, and in the book, he often mentions the relevant examples of zen, asking himself what is the enigmatic interpretation of zen? The search on the Internet is to make people's mind more pure, and to experience the compassion of the buddhist people. It is he who pioneered the writing of Buddha, so he is also helped to purify it. The heart is far away, the bodhi is slow. Buddha stand upright, low eyebrow charity view. Zen warm world, ji fu tai xiang 'an. Blessing cloud rise, pinch flowers shallow laugh. Zen life book scroll, tranquil and carefree. I think the zen world of Mr. Lin still needs us to ponder over, in the spare time of life is suitable for time, learn to enrich their vision and mind, so that they have zen and Buddha heart! Feeling Lin qingxuan, experience his clean way. I was also touched by Mr. Lin's purity, and everyone tried to turn himself into a pure person like Lin qingxuan. You will have different experiences in reading this book several times.。

《 Notre Dame cathedral》 is one known far and wide romantic faction strength which Victor Hugo writes .I take advantage of this summer vacation free time, read this great work.Notre Dame cathedral's story, actually was one at that time social epic poem, since brimmed with really. Friendly. Beautiful, also the flow selfish desire and is false. Regardless of is good beautiful Asmelada ,or has the ugly semblance, Cacimodo with one pure mind, they represent the great amount the lower level populace which suppresses; Perhaps is sinister Coloud,he is appears by the theocracy face, all load bearing one kind of author's author in this work, for with the clown, was beautifully friendly and wickedly does the best annotation, or take above three people as the example, the rebel Asmelada has the beautiful semblance and the chaste good mind, as well as pitiful destiny, but Cacimodo, he withstood destiny deceive nicely, the innermost feelings is his misery is graver, but Coloud maintained the benighted social rights and interests, he had brutally. Void mind and evil passion. Good person physique hateful, but the evil person actually says the appearance shore however, bright set off, social unfair manifest. But the article result also is when the opposition society until criticism: All beautiful is good all swallows by the might and the evil, the lower level people's weak strength in under the king power rule,in the benighted society, only can be reduced to ashes. Was palatial Notre Dame cathedral, how many world tragedy testimony once, in Hugo the novel, he as if had the life breath, he sheltered Asmelada ,exposed Coloud the crime, regret the populace attack the magnificent feat which dark actually heroically devoted……Another the question which is worth pondering is:Who is the hero? Asmelada or Cacimodo? I think all is not, but is in the article by the Louis 11 rank smell of blood suppression rather for sacreficed the populace gate,Asmelada with Cacimodo is not in them the representative, Asmelada is loves with the beautifulsymbol, Cacimodo not many represents is unfortunate and the pain. But they, all suffer a tragic middle ages ignorant evil forces devastate, one each one painful soul is bleeding, flows the tear. Merely is Notre Dame cathedral's above engraves " the destiny "? They are in middle ages France, despotism sacrificial victim. The entire story rich tragic color, the plot intense is moving, exciting. Author Hugo through " Notre Dame cathedral " this story, but also disclosed at that time the dark society's essence to the people. This fascinating story likes that Ccimodo clocks sound equally shocks several generation of readers' minds.“Animals deserve our kindness, sympathy and understanding,” that is what Anna Sewell-the author of Black Beauty-wanted to convince her readers. Thanks to Sewell, I now think about the animal-human relationship from both the human and the animal’s point of view. The inspiration for Anna Sewell’s novel was drawn from her own relationship with horses. Anna Sewell was born on March 20th, 1820 in Norfolk, England and was crippled while still very young. This innovative personification of an animal made the book a real success. Readers heard the stories straight fromthe horse’s mouth, literally, as an animal spoke of extremes of joy and suffering. Once, for example, Beauty was drawing the carriage to a wooden bridge. The bridge wasflooded out in the river and John, the groom, was not aware that it was cracked. She wasfrightened seriously so she bit or kicked to defend any possible attacks. Humans never understood how pained a horse is when he can’t brush flies off his sides and back legs.Sky, the terrier, had had a part of her ears sheared off. Her owners wanted to make her look cute and ignoredthat parts of her ears were intended to protect the delicate parts from injury.
