像我看到一个苹果,就说“It's an apple. It's red and round.”

比如说“I'm so hungry. I could eat a horse.”

有一次我说“I goed to the park yesterday.”

我给我同学讲小时候的趣事,用英语说“When I was a little kid, I liked to catch butterflies in the garden.”

B.By meditation.C.By locomotor habits. D.By data base.2.Which of the following statements is RIGHT according to the passage?A.Scientists have enough evidence to make sure that Homo naledi could make tools.B.Homo naledi had a unique form of locomotion so they don’t belong to genus Homo.C.Some features of Homo naledi can show that they are thoroughly modern human.D.There exist some differences between Homo naledi and modern human.3.What is the role of National Geographic?A.The sponsor. D.The detector.B(2017·湖南衡阳八中质检)New Zealand will create one of the largest marine protected areas in the world, spanning an area of 620,000 sq km.The Kermadec Ocean Sanctuary(保护区) will be one of the world’s most significant fully protected ecosystems, the prime minister of New Zealand,John Key,told the UN General Assembly in New York. The sanctuary is in the South Pacific Ocean, about 1,000 km northeast of New Zealand, and expands a marine reserve that surrounds some small islands. The area is considered important in terms of biodiversity, featuring nearly 35 species of whales and dolphins,150 types of fish and three of the world’s seven sea turtle species. It is also geologically significant, including the world’s longest chain of underwater volcanoes and the second deepest ocean trench, into 10 km underwater—deeper than Mount Everest’s height. The scale of the sanctuary will dwarf(矮化) any previous New Zealand’s protected area, spanning twice the size of the country’s mainland. It will cover 15% of New Zealand’s economic zone.Commercial and recreational fishing will be completely banned,as will oil,gas and mineral prospecting(勘探),exploration and mining.Key’s government aims to pass legislation establishing the sanctuary next year.“The sanctuary is a worldclass, unspoiled marine environment and New Zealand is proud toprotect it for future generations,” Key said.“New Zealanders value our coasts and oceans, which are an important part of our culture, economy and environment and we are committed to managing them sustainably.Creating protected areas will support not only our own fisheries, but those of our Pacific neighbors, adding to New Zealand’s efforts to help grow Pacific economies through the responsible management of their ocean resources.”Nick Smith,New Zealand’s environment minister, said the sanctuary might impose a cost upon the mining industry but that it is important to protect the ocean before exploration takes place.“New Zealand needs to use its vast ocean resources for jobs and exports in industries like fishing, aquaculture, minerals and energy, but we also need to set aside special areas where nature comes first and marine life is fully protected,” Smith said.New Zealand will monitor the area via its navy and satellite technology. The Kermadec region will join three other key areas in the Pacific protected by the US,the UK and Australia.Matt Rand, director of the Pew Charitable Trusts’ Global Ocean Legacy(遗产) campaign, welcomed Key’s announcement.“New Zealand will create the gold standard of conservation areas in the sanctuary, preserving one of the few relatively unspoiled areas of ocean on Earth,” he said.“This commitment is an exciting step toward meeting global goals to safeguard at least 30% of the ocean through fully protected marine reserves.”4.Why is the Kermadec Ocean Sanctuary important in biodiversity?A.It has a superior geographical location.B.It has many different kinds of sea animals.C.Its environment is suitable for the growth of marine life.D.It is the only unspoiled area of ocean remained on Earth.5.Which of the following will Key probably agree on?A.People are allowed to fish for fun in the sanctuary.B.All Pacific countries should be responsible for ocean resources.C.New Zealanders attach great importance to protecting the sanctuary.D.New Zealand has made great achievement in creating protected areas.6.What can we infer from what Nick Smith said?A.New Zealand should develop its marine industry in special areas.B.The Kermadec Ocean Sanctuary may affect New Zealand’s mining industry.C.New Zealand hasn’t figured out how to make full use of its ocean resources.D.Measures should be taken immediately to protect the ocean after explorations.Ⅱ.

B.Touched.C.Happy. D.Puzzled.3.What does Jonathan Williams think of his study in movie theaters?A.Creative. B.Unsuccessful.C.Systematic. D.Meaningful.4.What is the best title for the passage?A.Watching Movies Is Good for Our EmotionsB.The Useful Role of Chemical Signals in the AirC.Our Breaths Show Our Emotions at the MoviesD.Reasons for Levels of Carbon Dioxide in TheatersBScientists have known for decades that having measles(麻疹) suppresses kids’immune systems for several weeks or months, leaving them illequipped to fight off pneumonia, bronchitis and other infections. Now a team of researchers has suggested that the measles virus may also leave a longerlasting sort of “immuneamnesia(免疫缺失)” that makes it harder for people to stave_off other illnesses for two years or more.“That reemphasizes the importance of vaccination(疫苗),” said biologist Michael Mina, lead author of a paper that was published in the journal Science.“There may be a longlasting impact that you can’t undo if your child gets measles,” he said.“I hope this study can impress upon people the danger measles poses.”The researchers used what Mina called “an unconventional approach”to search for the longlasting immune system effects.Previous work in monkeys suggested that monkeys with the disease lost white blood cells their bodies had trained to fight off other illnesses, leaving them more likely to be infected. To test if a similar thing may occur in humans, the group mined historical data to find out the relationship between measles incidence(发病率) and deaths from other infectious diseases. They turned to data from England and Wales—developed nations where disease levels are generally low, allowing a lessconfused view of measles’ effects.Studying measles incidence and deaths from infectious disease both before and after the introduction of the measles vaccine in the UK in the 1960s,Mina and the team saw a sort of shadow effect, where deaths from a variety of nonmeasles infectious diseases closely tracked measles incidence. The more measles in a population, the more deaths from other illnesses in the 28month period that followed.“Really it didn’t matter what age group, what decade or what country,”said Mina.“They all showed consistent results...what we’re suggesting happens over the long term is that your immune system works fine, but it has forgotten what it previously learned.”Some researchers who were not involved in the work questioned whether the reductions in deaths as measles cases declined may have had more to do with improving nutrition and smaller family size than with prolonged immune suppression.Others thought the paper’s opinion of yearslong suppression was seemingly reasonable but said they could not comment on the mathematical models the group used.To know for certain what was behind the effect the group saw,Mina agreed, scientists would need to look at immune cells and observe their behavior. He said he would like to push the work in a more traditional direction:back into the laboratory.5.Why did Mina call their research method “an unconventional approach”?A.Their research was based on the historical data.B.Their research compared monkeys with humans.C.They only paid attention to developed nations.D.They discovered a sort of shadow effect.6.According to Mina, what is the significance of their research?A.They warned people that measles can result in other infectious diseases.B.They carried out the research on measles in an unconventional approach.C.They showed how dangerous measles is and the importance of vaccination.D.They found out the disease levels are generally low in developed nations.7.The underlined phrase “stave off” in Paragraph 2 is closest in meaning to “________”.A.keep away B.survive fromC.search for D.turn down8.Which of the following may be the best title of the passage?A.Measles Has Been the Origin of Other Diseases and DeathsB.New Research Conducted into Measles Has Been Widely QuestionedC.Study Points to Yearslong Immune System Misfortunes from MeaslesD.Damage Caused by Measles to the Immune System Could Last Several WeeksⅡ.

born in 1819 in Long Island,New York.Whitman received most of his education outside of the classroom. At the age of eleven,he worked in a law office as an office boy where he became interested in reading. He was soon reading the works of famous authors like William Shakespeare and Homer, and was well on his way to becoming one of America’s most wellknown poets.By the time Whitman was seventeen years old,he had already worked as a printer’s learner,a worker, and a teacher.Though he disliked teaching,he excelled in the profession, developing a friendly relationship with his students;he even allowed them to address him by his first name.He also developed fresh teaching techniques and learning games to help his students with spelling andmaths. In his early twenties, however,he gave up teaching to pursue(追求) a fulltime career as a journalist and poet. When Walt Whitman first appeared as a poet, his arrival onto the American literary scene was met with controversy. His first collection of poems,Lea v es of Grass, was so unusual that no commercial publisher would print the work.In 1855 Whitman published,at his own expense, the first edition of his collection of twelve poems.Whitman’s poetic style was uncommon in the sense that he wrote poems in a form called parallelism(对比法),in which his goal was to copy the flow of the sea and the quicklypassing nature of human emotion.A common theme in Whitman’s poetry is selfrealization. In his work,Whitman moves from conventional patterns of rhyme to create a unique rhythm and a multilayered, but truly American voice.“Although Whitman was considered a revolutionary by many, there is little doubt he loved his country deeply.” In his writing,he used slang(俚语) and various images,or voices,to create a sense of national unity. For Whitman, the “proof of a poet is that his country absorbs him as affectionately as he has absorbed it”.Whitman has undoubtedly become a part of the cultural history and image of America.1.Paragraph 2 mainly talks about ________.A.Whitman’s educationB.Whitman’s early careerC.how Whitman became a poetD.why Whitman’s poems were popular2.When Whitman first appeared as a poet,________.A.he received a warm welcomeB.his literary road was not easyC.he became famous for his unusual styleD.his poetic style was copied by other poets3.What was Whitman’s greatest literary contribution?A.He expressed human emotion in his writing.B.He showed that flow of the sea in his poems.C.He used slang to show his love for his country.D.He created a unique rhythm and an American voice.Ⅱ. Socrates—an Ancient Greek PhilosopherSocrates was an ancient Greek philosopher, who helped to shape Greek beliefs. The ideas hecreated are present in our culture today.Socrates was a person full of curiosity. From the time he was a young man,Socrates searched for wisdom and truth. He gained wisdom by asking questions. Many people in Athens thought that they had answers.Socrates asked them questions and argued with them about different topics. He did not think they had the knowledge they claimed to have.Socrates challenged false ideas people had about things like justice, love,or courage. He would break down the ideas people held. Then he built new and more accurate ideas.Socrates felt that this was what philosophy was all about.Since then, many great philosophers have used this method to find truth.Throughout his life,Socrates showed no interest in money. He was also not interested in material items.Socrates would allow groups of men to listen to him speak. And he would never take money from them.He alwayswore the same clothes whatever the season.Socrates argued that his life was better because he had no material wealth. He felt he enjoyed his food more.he said he was stronger and healthier because he was not affected by the weather. He believed happiness came not from having more but from wanting less.By the end of the fifth century B.C.Athens was not a great city anymore.Politicians betrayed Athens.Socrates had made many people angry over the years. He had always expressed his opinions when he thought laws and policies were wrong.Athens had a new group of political leaders in power, who didn’t want to hear Socrates’ comments about them. They thought Socrates had a bad influence on the young people of Athens.Socrates was also accused of not worshipping the right gods.Charges were brought against Socrates. The politicians wanted to condemn Socrates to death.Socrates’ friends told him to leave Athens. They thought this was the only way for him to save his life.Socrates refused. He did not behave as most people in his situation would.Socrates said that he had always lived by the rules of Athens and he would continue to do this.He insisted on standing trial for his “crime”.Socrates knew he was not guilty of anything. The reason why he was charged was because he was different from others.Although people respected him,he also had made many people angry,so the jury(陪审团) said Socrates was guilty. When faced with the death penalty,a person could leave Athens forever. Most people chose leave rather than die.Socrates was not like most people.Instead of telling the jury that he would go,he told them he deserved a reward.Socrates believed he had done a great service by making people think.Socrates said that he tried to persuade every one of you not to think of what he had but rather of what he was,and how he might grow wise and good. The jury did not change its mind.Socrates was executed. He died when he drank hemlock, which is poisonous.Socrates was the first great Greek philosopher. He also helped to shape other philosophers that came after him.Plato, who got his start by studying with Socrates, and Aristotle, who studied withPlato, also changed Western civilization.Asking questions to discover the truth is still practiced today. And schools even today still teach this method to students. Yousafzai attended a school that her father,Ziauddin Yousafzai, had founded. After the Taliban began attacking girl schools in Swat,Malala gave a speech in Peshawar,Pakistan,in September 2008.The title of her talk was,“How dare the Taliban take away my basic right to education?”When she was 14,Malala and her family learned that the Taliban had issued a death threat against her.Though Malala was frightened for the safety of her father—an antiTaliban activist—she and her family initially felt that the fundamentalist group would not actually harm a child. On October 9,2012,on her way home from school,a man boarded the bus Malala was riding in and demanded to know which girl was Malala. When her friends looked toward Malala, her location was given away. The gunman fired at her, hitting Malala in the left side of her head. Two other girls were also injured in the attack.Despite the Taliban’s threats,Yousafzai remains a firm advocate for the forgiveness, particularly on the forgiver and relationships. Now a new study, which is built on a smaller but growing body of research in the workplace, supports the power of forgiveness to potentially improve health and wellbeing and productivity in the workplace.Conflicts between colleagues are unavoidable, and they are associated with stress, health problems (bothmental and physical),and poor productivity.Researchers set out to explore how forgiveness can reduce these negative impacts. The participants—more than 200 employees working in office jobs in Washington,DC,or manufacturing jobs in the Midwest—responded to some questionnaires. The first survey asked participants to focus on a specific offence, and then they answered how it affected them. The second study looked at participants’general tendency to forgive and their general state of mind and work habits over the previous month. In both cases, forgiveness was linked to increased productivity, decreased absenteeism(旷工) and fewer mental and physical health problems, such as sadness and headaches. In the second study, these benefits were partly explained by reductions in interpersonal stress that went along with a forgiving disposition(性情).This new research is important for employees and employers alike,as a lack of forgiveness negatively affects the individuals involved and organizations as a whole.Holding on to negative feelings after a conflict may lead to disengagement at work,a lack of cooperation and even aggressive behavior.Holding a grudge(怨恨) is also associated with increased stress and a host of negative emotions, including anger and revenge. However, since many people who have been in conflict need to continue to work together, forgiveness can be an effective tool and a way to make people get along well with each other again and trust each other again, which is the key to effective work cultures. Then how can forgiveness be developed at work?According to the researchers, leaders’behavior often has the greatest impact on organizational culture,a kind of contagion effect (扩散效应).So you should try to forgive so that others can learn from you, particularly if you’re a leader. It’s also a good idea to rebuild trust by working on a common task, creating new experiences and memories of cooperation.Additionally, you can invest in programs to build understanding and teach evidencebased tools for ongoing forgiveness in the workplace.Forgiveness,of course, does not mean that we can ignore bad behavior.Every workplace should have policies and procedures for dealing with serious transgressions(违规).However,if you do feel ready and the situation warrants it,give forgiveness a try.It could help you, your colleagues and your workplace.

gatekeeper says that he cannot grant him entry at the moment. The man thinks about it and then asks if he will be allowed to come in sometime later on.“It ispossible,” says the gatekeeper,“but not now.”① The gate to the law stands open,as always, and the gatekeeper walks to the side,so the man bends over in order to see through the gate into the inside. When the gatekeeper notices that,he laughs and says:“If_it_tempts_you_so_much,try_going_inside_in_spite_of_my_prohibition.But_take_note.I_am_powerful.And_I_am_only_the _most_lowly_gatekeeper.But_from_room_to_room_stand_gatekeepers,each_more_powerful_than_the_other.I_cannot_endure_even_one_glimpse_of_the_third.”The man from the country has not expected such difficulties:The law should always be accessible for everyone,he thinks, but as he now looks more closely at the gatekeeper in his fur coat,at his large pointed nose and his long, thin, black Tartar’s beard,he decides that it would be better to wait until he gets permission to go inside. The gatekeeper gives him a stool and allows him to sit down at the side in front of the gate. There he sits for days and years. He makes many attempts to be let in,and he wears the gatekeeper out with his requests. The gatekeeper often interrogates him briefly, questioning him about his homeland and many other things, but they are indifferent questions, the kind great men put,and at the end he always tells him once more that he cannot let him inside yet.The man,who has equipped himself with many things for his journey, spends everything,no matter how valuable,to win over the gatekeeper. The latter takes it all but,as he does so,says,“I am taking this only so that you do not think you have failed to do anything.”②During the many years the man observes the gatekeeper almost continuously. He forgets the other gatekeepers, and this first one seems to him the only barrier for entry into the law.He curses the unlucky circumstance,in the first years thoughtlessly and out loud;later,as he grows old,he only mumbles to himself. He becomes childish and, since in the long years studying the gatekeeper he has also come to know the fleas(跳蚤) in his fur collar,he even asks the fleas to help him persuade the gatekeeper. Finally his eyesight grows weak, and he does not know whether things are really darker around him or whether his eyes are merely deceiving him.But he recognizes now in the darkness a ray of light which breaks out of the gateway to the law.Now he no longer has much time to live. Before his death he gathers in his head all his experiences of the entire time up into one question which he has not yet put to the gatekeeper. He waves to him, since he can no longer lift up his stiffening body. The gatekeeper has to bend way down to him,for the great difference haschanged things considerably to the disadvantage of the man.③“You are insatiable(不知足的).”“Everyone strives after the law,” says the man,“so how is it that in these many years no one except me has requested entry?” The gatekeeper sees that the man is already dying and,in order to reach his diminishing sense of hearing,he shouts at him,“Here no one else can gain entry, since this entrance was assigned only to you.I’m going now to close it.”④1.Which can best describe the man from the country?A.Brave but innocent.B.Loyal but ridiculous.C.Tolerant but stubborn.D.Trustworthy but childish.2.What is the implied meaning of the underlined sentences?A.Anyone who breaks the law will get severe punishment.B.It’s next to impossible for people to gain entry into the law.C.The gatekeepers are powerful enough to defend the law.D.All the gatekeepers take full responsibility for obeying the law.3.The sentence “‘What do you still want to know now?’ asks the gatekeeper.” can be put in ________.A.①B.②C.③D.④4.Which of the following is TRUE?A.The gatekeeper is actually the symbol of responsibility.B.All efforts made by the man from the country are in vain.C.The man from the country finally gains access into the law.D.A close relationship is formed between the gatekeeper and the man.5.Why is the man from the country eager to have access to the law continuously?A.Because he is anxious to explore the nature of law.B.Because no one can gain entry into the law except him.C.Because the gatekeeper promises him entry into the law.D.Because he knows how to take advantage of the gatekeeper.6.What may be the title of the novel?A.Before the LawB.Above the LawC.A Countryman’s LifeD.A Gatekeeper’s fact, they tore it apart for ten mornings—and for ten straight nights the beavers rebuilt it.On the eleventh day,the foreman tossed(扔) the problem back to the town manager. He,in turn, tossed it on to the local game warden(狩猎监督官).The warden, absorbed in beaver knowledge, moved quietly and carefully out one night and placed a petrolsoaked bag over the dam.(Any beaver expert will tell you the creatures just can’t tolerate petrol smell.)In the morning the bag was found artistically woven(编织) into the dam.The warden set out three steel traps that night. In the morning one was empty. The other two had been stolen by the beavers and used to strengthen the dam.The warden, cursing the state law against hunting beavers with firearms, got his traps back and set them out again and again. And every night the beavers stole them.Town manager Stanley enlisted additional troops. He telephoned his police chief. Those beavers were breaking a state law against blocking up a natural watercourse.“Why aren’t you out there to uphold the law?” Stanley asked.“You’re the police chief. So remove them.Arrest them.Do something.”Three mornings later, the police chief proudly announced the end of the dam.At 2:00 a.m.,he said,he and a licensed dynamiter(炸药使用者) had blown it to small pieces.Stanley said he’d believe it when he saw it.They drove out to the culvert and found a new dam already halfbuilt. They also found the highway choked with mud and remains thrown up by the dynamite.Stanley said maybe they should call in the Army Corps of Engineers. But the police chief’s faith in explosives was unshaken. He launched an allout campaign, but the beavers always managed to have the holes plugged by the time the fire department appeared on the scene for its morning mopup. In time, the beavers tired of this nonsense and moved their dam “inside” the culvert—where it couldn’t be blown up without destroying the road too.Stanley and his general staff held a council of war and agreed that fresh strategy was called for. Then they came up with an inspired idea.If we remove every branch of the dam by hand,we’ll force the beavers to go in search of new building material to replace what we’ve taken. Then we can place box traps along their runways and seized them. The plan was completely approved. Moreover it worked. On July 30,town manager Stanley was able to announce that the beaver group had been trapped and removed to a remote wilderness area. And there was great joy in Hampden—until the middle of October, that is,when a group of young beavers was spotted swimming in the same waters from which its elders had recently been taken away. But to make a long story short, the strategy that worked with the older beavers worked with the young ones too.1.What was the annoying problem for the
