Feminism in Kramer VS KramerKramer VS Kramer is Hollywood’s answer to contemporary questions of male parenting, the erosion of the family, and the women's movement. This film is, as they say, "heartwarming" and "believable" and the attention it received at the Oscars is no surprise——five Awards with Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress in the fifty-second Oscar. It is indeed a well crafted, beautifully acted backlash movie.Rleased in 1979, when the Vietnam War came to an end, there was an another movie named Apocalypse Now failed the American, as it did’t confronted with the war. However, the appearance of Kramer VS Kramer, presenting the love and struggle in a family healed and comforted people at that age. In the 1970s, a dramatic increase of divorce rate appears, accompany with the fevered feminist movement. Robert Benton’s low cost while attentive work reveals the social condition at that time, enlightens people to face up to the equality of bisexual in the family. We can use the film as a test case for the feminist analysis of the family. Joanna Kramer, left her husband Ted and her child Billy, in search of her self-fulfillment., Ted's success here makes it seem as though people only need to turn their attention to parenting and it will become more and more easy as time goes on。

Kramer vs Kramer
Kramer vs KramerAfter seeing this movie, I like following scene very much: the first morning after Joanna lefthome, Kramer did the breakfast for himself and her son Billy. He even didn’t know where is thepan and also drop some shell into the egg. Some French toast is burned, and then he was scaled byit. This scene really made me laugh. He is a little stupid, while his son Billy is so lovely. Fromhere, I can guess that Kramer is a man concentrated on his career and shows indifference on hiskids and wife’s life, not to mention do the housework.Kramer vs Krameris a film about a divorced couple dealing with their family, career and child. It is a little like the filmThe Revolutionary Road. The hero ofKramer vs Krameris Kramer. Theheroine isJoanna. They have a lovely child named Billy. Kramer has a job as a clerk in a companyto support his family. He is very busy in his work and has little communication with his wife andson. Joannais a housewife. She doesn’t have a job and what she does everyday is to do thehousework and take his son care. WhileJoannaonce had a job and it was after she got married thatshe quit her job. Without Kramer’s little care about his inner thought. So Joanna feels very upsetabout her present life. Billy is a very clever and sensible child. When he realized the truth that hismother had gone, he tried his best to be a good boy.At last, Joanna can’t stand her lifestyle. What makes her disappointed is that when she turnsKramer for help, Kramer refuses to listen to her. She feels that there is something with her.Though she loves Billy very much, she leaves away alone. So Kramer has to take hisresponsibility of taking care of his son.At the very beginning of living with his son, they don’t get on well with each other. Kramerboth have to work and take care of Billy. From the first scene he prepares breakfast for his son, hegives us an impression of an unqualified father. He knows little about his family. One night,Kramer does his work while Belly is playing his new plane. But he is only concentrated on hiswork and doesn’t take notice of Billy. It is because Billy turns the stuff over with careless. It spillsin his father’s papers. And his father feels angry about it and asks Billy to go to bed. There isanother scenethat shows the bad relationship between them. On their dinner, Billy doesn’t likeeating Salisbury steak, but his father doesn’t realize that he is just a child, Billy should be cajolednot only rebuke him. Feeling dissatisfied with his father, Billy stop eating to get chocolate chip icecream, which makes his father upset. So Kramer throws him into his bed and locks him. At thattime, Billy says to his father that he hate his. Kramer also says that he hate Billy too. Billy criesfor a long a time and gradually gets to sleep. On this night, Billy asks his father is it because hewas bad that his mother went away. Kramer tells Billy that it is because of himself ignoring of hismother’s real mind that drive his mother away. They start to have a communicationwith eachother. From this night, they seem more harmony than before. And Kramer teaches his son how toride a bike. Once, Billy falls off the jungle gym and hurts his face badly and takes several stitches.Billy behaved bravely. After this time, they really build a good relationship between them. Kramergradually knows how to be a good father and how to take care of Billy. At the same time,Joannacomes back, she feels much better and more confident than before. She also gets a high salary job. She wants totake care of Billy. Obviously, Kramer doesn’t agreewith her. So they decided to have a case about the raise of their son. Unfortunately, becauseKramer spends large of his time staying with his son, he doesn’t do well in his job, which makesThe film is a couple of karamer social ethics. In the film, director of the deep meaning of gender relations, and how to realize ho w to adjust how women should defend oneself independent character an d pursuit of life as well as the significance, this is the meaning of the fil m.In the meantime, "a couple kramer on in artistic is also high achievemen t. The biggest characteristic is true, with performance. Film tightly abide character relationships, emotion as the clue, affection to impress the audi ence. Film actors face almost entirely, strong feelings and winter scenery, made the audience was deep in the film build atmosphere. The film has several groups of lens, who-in vividly embodies the plot an d the character of change. The film is a lens face Joanna DaTeXie: refr ain from tears lovely face. Finally a lens is Joanna DaTeXie: face went upstairs and beautiful looks sad tears and face. As a start, regardless of the husband is Joanna dissuade resolutely, tears ran into the elevator downstairs, End is Joanna, abandoned, collect Billy the husband after wipi ng away tears into the elevator under the stairs.Kramer Vs. Kramer is a near-heartening drama about shocking, drastic augmentations of the two subjects of a failed married couple. Meryl Streep, in the throes of her trademark maternal sensitivity, plays an unhappy stay-at-home mother who feels confined to such a role and within the first five minutes of the film leaves her inattentive husband, in a fantastic performance by Dustin Hoffman, to find another role for herself. Hoffman is dumbstruck, having absolutely no idea what to do with himself, having taken so much for granted that he doesn't know the first thing about getting his son to school in the morning.Hoffman seamlessly characterizes this husband as such a juicy load of setbacks. He is restless, relentless and impatient, but even though the positive side to those three adjectives should include just the opposite, he is unremittingly fixated on whatever he turns his head to. He's been focused on his career in advertising, and when he is left to raise his son Billy all by himself, chaos ushers in immediately. He's the one throwing temper tantrums and quitting angrily halfway through an activity. After awhile, as he befriends his neighbor and Joanna's former friend, played by sexy Jane Alexander, Hoffman cools his jets enough to understand why his wife left. In the meantime, his boundless energy redirects towards raising Billy and he loses his job.The custody battle of the title is a brilliantly grey circumstance. Even if the ending is a little unmotivated, subjectified for the audience, the last line and the last shot still have that witty screen writing touch that seemed to diminish after the magical 1970s.:《克莱默夫妇》讲述的是一对离异夫妇如何处理"事业"与"家庭"以及他们与儿子的关系的故事。
5.Kramer vs. Kramer-
The situation of the hero Kramer had been so serious that his wife decided to leave him as well as her beloved son because of his husband’s infinite working mission outside..However, through trial and error, he finally could build a life together with his son Billy.I think it can be a touch job to a man ascribe to that being a good parent,it has to do with constancy, patience, listening, confidence as well as love. What's more, the stereotypes of our society have forced us to think that man is naturally not a better parent than woman. But we can see that,Ted had proved that was wrong, and he eventually found that the loving relationship between Billy and him would be unshakable and eternal..... Joanna,moreover,was the symbol to all of the housewives. Her behaviour had best demonstrated a woman's protest fot being neglected as a person with no right to live an independent life. And nowadays, many wives no longer spend all their time in housekeeping as well as babysitting. Not only would they struggle to find their own identity in the society, but also buildtheir career lives.......主题In my poor opinion, each family should stick to the constant heartful conversations, and all the family members should talk ot confide what have happened and what they felt in some period....'cause it's a best way to maintain our family relationship对白:you can't ruin his life twice(MR.Kramer的话)剧情发展分析The conflict and character lie in the various values of Kramer and his wife .Joanna has a high survival level that concerning about the enjoyment of life itself .

Values Behind The Story
Ted: That's not it, Billy. Your mom loves you very much and the reason she left has nothing to do with you. I think the reason why Mommy left was because for a long time l kept trying to make her be a certain kind of person. A certain kind of wife that I thought she was supposed to be.
Thinking
Were you failure at the most important relationship in your life?
My opinion: • In a way,it’s failure,so that Joanna left home and to find herself; In another way, what does failure mean?Is that successful that having a peaceful family but without self-achievement?

"Kramer vs. Kramer" is the kind of movie which grows on you. It is so well made that you may not be aware at the time how much skill and artistry have gone into it.It is a whole bunch of other movies rolled into one, but it is not derivative. It is definitely singular. It covers old ground with integrity and a high degree of insight. It takes familiar people, familiar situations and then treats them with a mixture of intelligence and art rarely combined on the screen. The movie is about the breakup of a marriage, about two people who drifted apart without knowing it at the time, about their child who is caught in the crossfire, about their friends and--most of all--about characters who grow and change. It is that last aspect of "Kramer vs. Kramer" which make all the other aspects come together in something other than the soap opera the ingredients suggest. The film says much without preaching, is a product of our times without being trendy.Screenwriter-director Robert Benton has managed to strip away everything from the story except what really counts.Nestor Almendros' photography zeros in on people in a way to stress their isolation, their moods. The spare music, bits of Purcell and Vivaldi, add to the atmosphere. Most of all, "Kramer vs. Kramer" is blessed with one of the best casts ever assembled for a movie.Dustin Hoffman plays Ted Kramer, a successful ad agency executive with success-bent workaholic habits.Meryl Streep is Joanna, his wife, whose quiet desperation over her loss of identity and self worth have gone unnoticed by her husband. The movie opens on the isolated image of the sad faced mother saying good night and, as it turns out, goodbye as well to her sleeping son, Billy (Justin Henry). In spite of her action, some sympathy will be with her in the beginning because of her husband's unawareness, his we'll-talk-about-it-tomorrow attitude.>From there on the film becomes the story of a growing father-son relationship. In a series of short, sometimes funny, often poignant scenes, the two learn to cope with life and with each other. There is a gradual transition from awkwardness to harmony, from independence to mutual dependence. Ted Kramer changes from ad man to father, and as priorities shift, his career goes down the drain. There are wonderful father-son scenes-- confrontation, fun and sadness. One particularly moving moment occurs when the father assures his son that the boy's mother did not leave because of dislike for the boy, butthat it was his, the father's fault. When Joanna Kramer re-enters the movie two-thirds of the way through to claim her son, sympathy will have shifted entirely to the father. The ensuing court battle has its moments of nastiness, but there are indications -- a look, a half phrase -- of a lingering affection and respect if not love.Benton presents it as a no-win situation, inflicts no one with a villain label. The ending may seem contrived, an attempt to make everyone happy. But it is also an ending which goes full circle with its image of sadness and frustration.Hoffman has never been better. All the nuances are there--cockiness, anger, worry, determination, sadness --without giving the impression of overacting.Meryl Streep, in a brief role, once again shows what a skillful actress can do. There are few performers who can express pain and joy with a look, a glance the way she can.Jane Alexander is perfect as the neighbor with affection for both parties. Howard Duff as the attorney manages to let you know that he's a high priced lawyer even before he mentions his fee.But it is young Justin Henry who Is the miracle of the movie. His mood, his actions and reactions, his laughter, his tears are right for every scene. He gives the impression that the camera was eavesdropping on real life. It's possible that "Kramer vs. Kramer" will evoke reactions colored by the sex and/or experiences of each particular viewer. But I can think of no other of the growing group of movies about marital relationships which treats each of the parties with greater objectivity, with fewer attempts at setting up a good vs. evil situation.。

Kramer VS Kramer---------The change of the charactersKramer VS Kramer is a social ethical play. On one hand, the theme of this movie profoundly reflects the social reality. On the other hand, the movie tell us that how to deal with the relationship between couples, family and career, how woman protect their own independent personality, and how to pursue the real meaning of life, which is the significant of this movie. And the biggest characteristic of this movie is true love and moving performance, which tightly abide the character relationship and emotional changes. Among the changes, the change of characters is the most obvious. At the very start of this movie, we know that Ted is an advertising executive, he seems to always busy, no time to listen to his wife and workaholic to his work, however, he ignored his wife’s feelings and had little time communicate with his wife. Although Ted worked hard and made effort to create a better life for his wife and son, he did not know what they really need. While Joanna is a ordinary housewife who give up her own ideal for her family, but in fact, she did not want to be that person and wanted to talk with Ted about what she think in mind, because of Ted’s ignorance, which make her unbearable and finally leave home. However, after leaving home, Joanna write a letter to his son---Billy, from the letter, Ted seems to become aware of Joanna’s unhappiness and gradually understands just why she leaves home. In court, Ted said, my wife used to always say to me why can’t a woman have the ambitions as a man, I think you are right…,what Ted says show us his changes both as a father and as a husba nd, he finally understand Joanna’s feelings and aspirations about career. In the same way, from what Joanna says in court about her marriage and her love for her son, we can see how Joanna looses her self-esteem and how she regain her confidence. Joanna’s words best demonstrate a woman’s protest for being neglected as a person with no right to live an independent life. Finally, from the mutual statements in court, Ted and Joanna further understand each other, I think, what lack of between them is communication, they both just want to have the right to take care of Billy, let their son feel happy, and show their own love for their son. All things they do just for Billy, there is no doubt they are good parent, but they lack of love and understand for each other. And above those, we know that both Ted and Joanna have changed in thoughts, and changed their opinion to each other. The film has several groups of lens, which left a deep impression on us and vividly embodies the plot and character changes. The first lens of this film is the big close-up of Joanna’s face: beautiful eyes filled with tears, and the last close-up is also about Joanna, she stand in an elevator with full of tears. At the very start, Joanna neglect her husband 's discouraging, run into the elevator with tears in her eyes and determined to leave home. The last close-up, Joanna gave up to take Billy away and prepared home to see Billy, standing in the elevator to keep the tears dry. That is a group of sharp contrast about Joanna. There is another obvious change happened about Ted. When Joanna left home, Ted had to take care of Billy. Ted made the first breakfast for Billy with embarrassment, even did not know the location of the kitchen, which let us simmer with laughter. Gradually, after eighteen months, Ted, in the care of Billy's process, is also slowly learned how to be a good father. When competing for the right to support their son 's lawsuit failed, Ted made Billy 's last breakfast, we can see that Ted skilled movements, which form a sharp contrast compared with the first breakfast.Through the change of character, we can feel something. As parents, when determining something, you should take child’s feelings into consideration and children are innocent. Certainly, as couples, when quarrelling, you should calm down, need more communication and understand each other standing in the positions of two sides.。

Conflicts
• This movie mainly focused on the parents, and revealed the external and internal conflicts about the father and mother,i.e.Ted and Joanna. However, we think that the kid –Billy is still the core of the major conflicts in his movie. So let’s look at the conflicts one by one. First ,because Ted loves Billy so much, he has trouble balancing his work and family. Before Joanna’s leaving, Mr.Kramer is a workaholic advertising executive whose thoughts are almost entirely centered around his new account and he even did not know what grade his son is in.
Plot
• Ted Kramer (Dustin Hoffman) is a workaholic advertising executive who has just been assigned a new and very large account. After being given the news, he returns home to find his wife Joanna (Meryl Streep) in the process of leaving him. Saying that she needs to find herself, she leaves Ted to raise their son Billy (Justin Henry) by himself. Ted and Billy begin to resent each other as Ted no longer has time to carry his increased workload, and Billy misses the love and attention he received from his mother. After many months of unrest, Ted and Billy begin to cope with the situation and eventually grow to love and care for one another. Ted befriends his neighbor Margaret (Jane Alexander), who initially had counseled Joanna to leave Ted. Margaret is a fellow single parent and the two become kindred spirits. One day as the two sit in the park watching their children play, Billy falls off the jungle gym and severely cuts his face on a toy plane he was playing with. Picking him up, Ted sprints several blocks through oncoming traffic to the hospital, where he comforts his son tenderly, representing his increased emotional connection and sense of responsibility for the child since his wife left.
Finally, the court awards custody to Joanna, not so much due to the evidence on both sides but due to the assumption that a child is best raised by his mother. Ted discusses appealing the case, but his lawyer warns that Billy himself would have to take the stand in the resulting trial and Ted cannot bear the thought of submitting his child to such an ordeal. He therefore decides not to contest custody.

On the morning that Billy is to move in with Joanna, Ted and Billy make breakfast together, mirroring the meal that Ted tried to cook the first morning after Joanna left. They hug in a very tender moment as they both know this is their last breakfast together. Joanna calls from the ground floor, asking Ted to come down to talk. She tells Ted that, while she loves Billy and wants him with her, she knows that he is already home, and that his true home is with Ted. She will therefore not take him. As she enters the elevator, she asks her ex-husband "How do I look?". The movie ends with the elevator doors closing on the emotional Joanna, right after Ted answers, "You look terrific," as she heads upstairs to talk to Billy.
