They are putting on a "Classic Culture Exploration" for an English writing contest! I can't wait, it's going to be epic.Let me tell you all about it. The teachers announced it at morning assembly last week. Mrs. Robertson, my English teacher, came up on the big stage and told us the super cool news. She said that to get us pumped for the writing contest, the whole school was going to transform into a wonderland celebrating classic stories, books, fairy tales and legends from all around the world! Can you even imagine how awesome that will be? Walking down the hallways, every classroom is going to be decked out like a different classic tale. So one room might look like the crazyadventures of Alice in Wonderland. With playing cards and talking animals everywhere! Then the next room could be the spooky Haunted Woods from Little Red Riding Hood. With trees and wolves and a little cottage. It's going to be so freaking cool. But that's not even the best part. Not only do we get to explore all these make-believe worlds, but they are going to have special guests visiting too. Get this - they invited actors, museum curators, historians, and even some authors to come and give us the inside scoop on these classic stories and legends! How lucky are we?I heard one of the actor guys does a crazy good impression of the Mad Hatter from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. He's going to be frolicking around in that room doing his zany riddles and poems. A museum curator is coming to teach us about the real history behind the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. And apparently this famous author wrote a brand new fairy tale just for our school! She's going to read the whole thing out loud to us. No one else has even heard it before. Isn't that insane? The teachers said the whole experience is to inspire our creativity and get our creative writing juices flowing for the contest. After seeing the displays and meeting the guests, wehave to write our own original short story, fairy tale, or legend. The student with the best, most imaginative story gets a huge trophy and their work published in a real book! Plus the winner gets free pizza for a whole year. A whole year of free pizza you guysI have my fingers and toes crossed that I win, because I'm going to work so incredibly hard on my story. I already have about a million different ideas swimming around in my head. Maybe I'll write a modern sci-fi twist on an ancient Greek legend. Or perhaps an action-packed adventure based on a classic Arabian folk tale. There are just so many paths I could take, I can't decide! The best part is, I know I'm going to have a ton of inspiration after seeing all the classic tales brought to life. When I walk through that Alice in Wonderland room, my mind is going to be racing with crazy ideas of whimsical worlds and bizarre characters. The historical stuff on King Arthur will maybe spark legends of gallant knights and mythical beasts. Who knows what wonderfully weird things will pop into my brain!I'm counting down the days until this Classic Culture Exploration begins. Just thinking about it gets me so psyched to let my imagination run wild and create the coolest, mostfantastical story ever told. This is going to be buckets of fun but also the perfect way to get prepared to absolutely crush this writing contest. My epic tale is going to blow everyone away, just you wait!First I need to decide what kind of story to write - myths, legends, fairy tales, tall tales, fables? The possibilities are endless! Then I'll have to come up with characters and a plot filled with adventure, mystery, or magic. I'll need some novel setting, maybe a time long ago or a whimsical place unlike anything in the real world. There's so much to figure out, but I've got this. After being immersed in classic tales from around the globe, my well of inspiration will be overflowing.I can't wait to wander through realm after realm ofmake-believe. Gazing at creative worlds constructed by archaeologists and play-actors. Listening to real-life poets and professors enlighten me on the rich histories and cultural traditions. My name is Lily, and I'm a 5th grader at Sunshine Elementary School. I'm super excited because our school is hosting an awesome English writing contest all about exploring classic culture! Isn't that cool? You see, our teachers always tell us how important it is to learn about the rich histories and traditions of different societies. They say it helps us understand the world better and become more well-rounded individuals. At first, I didn't really get it. Why would I want to learn about stuff from a long time ago? But then they explained that so many of the things we enjoy today actually have their roots in classic cultures from the past! For example, did you know that the first-ever novels and plays were written by ancient Greek and Roman writers? Pretty much all the great stories we love nowadays originated from those epic tales they crafted thousands of years ago. Or how about democracy? The very idea of people voting for their leaders was invented way back in ancient Athens. Wild, right? But it's not just the Greeks and Romans. Every major civilization throughout history has contributed something amazing to the world we live in today. The ancient Egyptians were master builders who erected jaw-dropping pyramids thatstill baffle scientists. The Chinese gave us mind-blowing inventions like paper, the compass, gunpowder, and printing. Islamic scholars preserved and advanced so much vital knowledge during the Middle Ages while Europe was going through a rough patch. There are just too many examples to name! That's why our teachers decided to organize this Classic Culture Exploration contest. They want us kids to dive deep into researching a particular society from the past and then write a creative English essay about something fascinating we discovered. We can pick any culture that interests us - Ancient Greece, the Maya, the Ottomans, the Renaissance Italians, you name it! The teachers say exploring the classics will be like taking an epic adventure back through the centuries.I'm planning to write my essay about the wondrous civilization of Ancient India. You might not know this, but those folks were absolute geniuses when it came to things like mathematics, astronomy, architecture, literature and more. For instance, the decimal system with the numerals 1, 2, 3 and so on that we use every single day? Yup, you guessed it - that brilliant concept was invented by Indian mathematicians! They were programming the world's first computer, which was aphenomenal calculating machine made entirely out of stone and wood. No electricity, just pure human ingenuity. Howmind-bending is that?I'm going to research the incredibly advanced knowledge these people had and how it still influences modern science, engineering and technology today. My essay will be like a thrilling journey through time, transporting readers to the streets of ancient Indian cities where the world's first universities stood and renowned scholars made groundbreaking discoveries. I'll describe the massive temples and palaces they built using geometry and architectural skills far beyond their era. And of course, I'll sprinkle in some fun tales from the epic Sanskrit stories and myths they crafted too!Our teachers say the top essays might even get published in a book or on the school website. Just imagine - my work could be read by kids and grown-ups from all around the globe! That would be such an incredible honor. But more than that, I'm really looking forward to learning a ton of amazing new things about humanity's rich heritage. Classic cultures have given us so many priceless gifts that still impact our modern world tremendously. By exploring them, I'll go on an awesome adventure of discoveryand gain a deeper understanding of where we've come from as a species.I can't wait to start researching and writing my essay. With the rapid development of economy, the argument about the classics has aroused our concern.Different people have different opinions about the classics.
Nowadays, more and more young people harbor the idea that classics has been out of date. They believe that the classics represent the wisdom of the past. As we are advancing towards the future, it is our responsibility to venture into the unknown and generate new understanding of man and nature. Nevertheless, others hold the view that the classics are classics because they have stood the test of time. Therefore, they are to be treasured by people of all generations, ours being no exception.
From my own perspective, we cannot forget the classics.Since there is nothing ambiguous that they contain a sea of our ancestors’ wisdom and experience, they are of much importance and are beneficial for us. What’s more, the classics are the gifts that our predecessors give us, by reading them, we can know more about the world and acquire a mountain of knowledge and wisdom which can be used to solve the problems in our times,or in the future. The classics can help us develop personalities as well. They do count a lot.
However, I don’t think that we should follow the classics blindly. Undoubtedly, there is something out of date or proved wrong in the classics, such as sex discrimination, the three cardinal guides and the five constant virtues. We should distinguish them carefully. Besides, not only should we keep pace with the times, but also we should attach more importance to develop our pop culture, as producing some classics to our next generation is extremely significant.
So, just let the classics be classics. I believe they can transform our life in a positive way.。
