阅读理解。

阅读下列短文, 从给的四个选项 (A、B、C和D) 中, 选出最佳选项。

They were just grasshoppers(蚂蚱). But there were
millions of them, which was why dad was so anxious to
get rid of them.
“They’re totally destroying our beans, ”he told
Mom over luncht ime one Saturday. “I’ve been trying
to keep them out of the tomatoes, but I don’t know if
I can make it. ”
“Isn’t there something you can do about them? ”Mom asked. She was mostly concerned about the tomatoes. “I think there’s a spray(喷雾)or something, ”Dad said. “I’m going down to the garden center after lunch and see if they have any suggestions. ”
I’m pretty sure that’s what he said. But what I heard was, “While I’m gone, why don’t you and George come up with your own plan for getting rid of the grasshopp ers? ”
And so that’s what we did. It was the summer between fifth and sixth grade, so we were feeling pretty clever and mature. Certainly we knew how to get rid of these grasshoppers. That seemed simple enough. Finally Ron and Don joined us but then, things got a little crazy. Before we knew it we were doing terrible experiments. I won’t describe our experiments. Let’s just call it“The Adventures of the Marquis de Orkin”. Dad came home and saw these different deaths. We were laughing, but the laughter quic kly turned to silence when we saw the look on my Dad’s face.
“What are you boys doing? ”he asked.
“We’re just sort of helping to get rid of the grasshoppers, ”I said.
“This isn’t getting rid of grasshoppers, ”Dad said. “This is killing. ”
I was confused. I looked at the insecticide he was carrying. “But aren’t you going to kill grasshoppers with that? ”I asked.
“Yes, because it’s something we need to do for the protection of our garden, ”he
said seriously. “But I’m not going to enjoy it. ”

阅读下列短文, 从给的四个选项 (A、B、C和D) 中, 选出最佳选项。

Imagine looking for your lost dog. You step into a cave. But instead of the dog,
you find beautiful cave paintings. You see paintings of horses,
deer, and bison drawn in black, brown, red and yellow. Your first
question would probably be“Who did this? ”
This is what happened to four French boys in 1940. They found
the Lascaux caves. The paintings the boys discovered in those
caves are about 17, 000 years old. They were drawn by the ancient
people called Cro-Magnon(克鲁马努人).
Cro-Magnons looked much like people of today. They used tools, such as fishing nets. But their art was extremely good. The main cave at Lascaux is called Great Hall of Bulls, which has a picture of bulls and horses in many colours. The largest animal is 18 feet long. There are smaller animals, such as bison, stags and a bear. There is also a strange spotted two-horned(两只角的)animal.
To the left of the main cave are the most famous paintings that are the drawings of animals in many different colours. One painting is called Little Horses. On the ceiling are horses and cows. The most unusual sight may be in the Shaft of the Dead Man where there is a rhinoceros, a carefully drawn dead man, an injured bison and a bird.
Why did Cro-Magnon artists do these beautiful drawings on cave walls? Did the drawings call upon some magic power? Did the Cro-Magnon people hope that the drawings would bring good luck? There is one thing the paintings seem to tell us. The Cro-Magnons were interested in the world. They looked at beauty and they understood it.

When you’re an employee of a company, no matter the size, it’s common to see
co-workers promoted, or transferred to a different department. But there is another way to move around—by creating a new position for yourself. I did this several years
ago, though I wasn’t actively looking for a different job.
In 2007, I was hired at the Transamerica Life Insurance Company, as a customer service representative in the distributions services department. I processed requests for distributions from our annuity(养老金)policy holders around the country. Someone might have forgotten to sign a form, for example, or might have omitted security information. To solve the problem, I’d mail the person a letter.
The company had been through several combinations, so in our department alone we had a collection of about 140 templates(模板) for letters related to distributions. The longer I worked with the letters, the more I saw how they could be improved. Some had overlapping information and could be combined. Some had incorrect grammar or needed updating. I also noticed that industry terminology(专业术语) wasn’t standard across all the versions.
When I told my department supervisor about this in 2008, she agreed that the letters needed revamping. She said I should stop what I’d bee n doing and start the new work. In a relatively short time, I was able to make numerous improvements and reduce the number of letters to 70. It was an informal job change until a managers’ meeting several months later.
At that meeting, a vice president who was unaware of my new work mentioned that the division’s entire stock of 1,700 letters should be reviewed. My manager told her that she knew the perfect person for the job—me. The position was still considered temporary when I took on the extra tasks, but I was able to show that the work had value, and I was officially promoted and given a raise in November 2009.
31. According to Paragraph 1, which of the following statements is true?
A .The author admired those who got a promotion in his company.
B. The author tried his best to get a promotion in his company
C. The author was eager to seek another job.

A. Some information needed to be united.
B. Some information was overlooked.
