Unit 5 The Chinese Writing System: Connecting the Past and the Present Reading and Thinking
Teaching Objectives: At the end of this period, you are expected to be able to:
1. To figure out the main structure of the passage through the analysis of G-P pattern.
2. share the Chinese language and culture to increase your cultural awareness.
3. judge the writing purpose/intended readers/the author's attitude/key information of the passage.
4. express your own ideas on the given topics by critical thinking
Teaching Focus:
To apply different approaches of discourse analysis to deepen the understanding of the text and language use.
To express personal ideas with the help of the target template and lexis.
Teaching Procedures:
I. Warming up
Game time: Guess and Answer
Prediction Look at the picture and the title of the passage, can you predict / guess what the passage is mainly about ?
II. Guided Discourse Analysis
Teacher: Get everyone to figure out the discourse pattern of the text assisted by G-P strategy, and share the lexis relevant to each topic.
*Students: Apply the G-P strategy, dig into the whole text and share the related details as well as language from it.
Purpose: To figure out the theme, topic, thread, and transition of the text, 4-t strategy
