四、阅读理解

Most people who are thought as being successful often owe their success to people in their lives that they consider to be a coach. In fact, the most successful people on the planet have their own personal coach. The reason for this is simple.
While friends, family and colleagues can be wonderful supporters, they often provide guidance to you based on their own purpose.Their purpose is often a well meaning one,but the bottom line is: it's “their" purpose. While their wants for you may sometimes agree with your own life desires and goals,it is difficult for them to be completely unbiased(公正的)in actions.None of us can be truly“unbiased”in the ways we interact(相互作用)with those closest to us because our lives are so directly intertwined with one another. That’s where a personal coach comes in.
The purpose of a personal coach is to provide you with a professional who is skilled at unbiased listening and whole.hearted helping. Your coach expertly assists you in creating a strong personal foundation that allows you to dream big and achieve those dreams about what you can or cannot accomplish.
A coach is your personal trainer in life.A coach helps you discover your undeveloped potential and works with you to develop every aspect of your personal greatness· With the right coach you can’t help but succeed. It's not surprising that almost all recognize leaders have a personal coach. Of course, all professional athletes do. So do Fortune 500 CEOs,cutting edge business leaders and recognized role models·

If U.S. software companies don't pay more attention to quality, they could kiss their business good-bye. Both India and Brazil are developing a world-class software industry. Their weapon is quality and one of their jobs is to attract the top U.S. quality specialists whose voices are not listened to in their country.
Already, of the world's 12 software houses that have earned the highest rating in the world, seven are in India. That's largely because they have used new methods rejected by American software specialists. For example, for decades, quality specialists, W. Edwards Deming and J. M. Juran had urged U.S. software companies to change their attitudes to quality. But their quality call mainly fell on deaf ears in the U.S -- but not in Japan. By the 1970s and 1980s, Japan was grabbing market share with better, cheaper products. They used Deming's and Juran's ideas to bring down the cost of good quality to as little as 5% of total production costs. In U.S. factories, the cost of quality then was 10 times as high: 50%. In software, it still is.
Watts S. Humphrey spent 27 years at IBM heading up software production and then quality assurance. But his advice was seldom paid attention to. He retired from IBM in 1986. In 1987, he worked out a system for assessing(evaluating) and improving software quality. It has proved its value time and again. For example, in 1990 the cost of quality at Raytheon Electronics Systems was almost 60% of total software production costs. It fell to 15% in 1996 and has since further dropped to below 10%.
Like Deming and Juran, Humphrey seems to be winning more praises overseas than at home. The Indian government and several companies have just founded the Watts Humphrey Software Quality Institute at the Software Technology Park in Chennai, India. Let's hope that U.S. lead in software will not be eaten up by its quality problems.
60. What country has more highest-rating companies in the world than any other country has?
A. India.
B. The US.
C. Brazil.
D. Germany.
61. Which of the following statements about Humphrey is true?
A. He is now still an IBM employer.
B. He has worked for IBM for 37 years.
C. India honors him highly.
D. The US pays much attention to his quality advice.
62. By what means did Japan grab its large market share by the 1970s and the 1980s?
A. Its advertising was most successful.
B. Its products were cheaper in price and better in quality.
C. The US hardware industry was lagging behind.
D. Japan hired a lot of Indian software specialists.

Savile Row was first developed in 1695 as part of the Burlington Estate. It had been part of the gardens of Burlington House previous to this. Originally it was named Savile Street. Houses were built on one side of the street, with gardens on the other side and was therefore nicknamed Savile Row, with a row of houses on one side. The name was officially changed in 1810.
The first tailors appear on the street in 1785, and over the next fifty years the trend continued. This is what made the area famous. The first daily newspaper to do this was the Daily Courant in the early 1700's. By the 20th century a large majority of London and National newspapers had their headquarters in the area. This is no longer the case though, as many of the papers moved out of Fleet Street from the 1980's. All of the main newspapers have now left and it is now more associated with law practices(事务所).
Harley Street is world famous for its medical practices. Prior to the 18th century it only consisted of a few houses and was part of the village of Marylebone; not yet part of the City of London. As London grew in the 1700’s century Marylebone became part of London. It was developed
into a larger residential area between 1715 and 1720. Around a century later doctors started setting up home in the area, with a number of them setting up practices from then homes. As this trend continued the area became well known in this aspect.

By 2012,the world may need to cope with as many as 50 million people who have fled their homeland, not for political or economic reasons but because the environment has been so badly changed that it cannot support life. The statement has been released by the United Nations to mark UN Disaster Reduction Day.
More people are made homeless by environmental disasters than by war, according to the research by the Red Cross. That reality is proved by the earthquake in Pakistan.
The widely publicized disaster has brought aid from the global community, according to Janos Bogardi, director of the United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security. “If we can move swiftly in and give them a new start where they are, then they may stay in the area. Otherwise, they become environmental refugees. Environmentalrelated migrations are most acute in SubSaharan Africa, but they also affect millions of people in Asia and India. Meanwhile, the United States is witnessing increased pressure from victims of mismanaged and worsening soil and water conditions in Mexico and Latin America.” he says. Janos Bogardi says these refugees suffer from the impact of gradual environmental change—global warming, sea level rise, air and water pollution and more intense storms, floods and droughts that degrade the land. This is a slow process, but unfortunately a process that is very difficult to go backwards once final damage
is done.
Janos Bogardi says they are calling on the global community to recognize the serious situation of environmental refugees and to work together to lessen the impact of environmental disaster. 66.What may be the best title of the passage?
A.50 Million environmental refugees by 2010

Supermarket Morrisons today announced to launch an online shopping operation within two years in a move to catch up with its web-savvy rivals. The UK's fourth biggest supermarket said would offer grocery and non-food products but would take time to build from zero.
As part of its online development, Morrisons - the only one of the "Big Four" grocers not to have a significant internet business - revealed it had invested £32 million in a 10% stake of a New York-based online grocer. The announcement came as Morrisons posted a 13% increase in underlying pre-tax profits of £869 million in the year to January 30.
Morrisons is implementing a growth strategy which is focused on expanding its e-commerce business and moving into the convenience store market. It has earmarked £3 billion in investment
over the next three years. The supermarket floated the idea of launching its own website last year and today is the first firm commitment to realising that goal.
Last month, the company took its first major step to launching an online operation with the acquisition of internet retailer Kiddicare for £70 million. The company said this move, along with the 10% "strategic" stake in American online grocer FreshDirect announced today, would help it launch its own website in the future. FreshDirect was launched in 2002 and serves 600,000 customers in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. The deal will see Morrisons chief executive Dalton Philips join the company's board.
Morrisons also revealed it would open three convenience stores, around 3,000 sq ft in size, in July under the name M Local. The shops will be located in Morrisons' heartland in the north of England, in neighbourhoods around the M62 motorway. The company said the convenience business was the second-fastest growing part of the market. Rival models include Tesco Metro and Sainsburys Local.
