To offer teenagers helpful advice on career, the students from Tianjin TEDA No. 1 Middle School started a project called “Dian Zhi Cheng Shi (点职成诗)”. “Our survey shows that 72% of students want to know more about different jobs. Being doctors is one of the best jobs,” said Wang Xinran, 16, the project leader.
Accor ding to students’ needs, the team interviewed 32 excellent workers with different jobs and put their interviews on the Internet. These workers shared true stories behind each job, allowing students to learn about the jobs further.

Team member Lu Jinyan said his most impressive interview was with a photographer. “I thought being a photographer was cool and romantic in the past. But now I realize that they need to deal with lots of problems, such as a sudden change of weather or broken cameras. They also need to communicate with different people. This is not easy.”

People know animals do have feelings, but they are not sure if these feelings are correctly understood. In recent years, scientists have done research about the feelings of cows, frogs and pandas. A new study adds chickens to the list. It says that humans can tell whether a chicken is happy or sad by listening to its calls. ①________
The researchers put a bowl behind a door. Inside the bowl, sometimes, there was something chickens love to eat, such as rice or insects. Sometimes, there was nothing. When the chickens saw food behind the door, they seemed happy and produced fast and loud sounds, known as food calls. When there wasn’t food, the chickens made low and long noises to express disappointment. ②________ Then the researchers chose 16 recordings of such chicken noises. Half were from the chickens seeing the food and half were from the chickens finding no food. The recordings were played to 194 volunteers. Sixty-nine percent of the volunteers correctly understood whether the chickens were feeling happy or not, and some of them even had no experience of taking care of chickens.
③________
The result shows that humans have the natural ability to understand the feelings of chickens. Hopefully, this finding can bring about new technology to help with chicken-raising, a big industry in many countries. Some scientists are already working on a smart computer program that can identify chickens’ feelings. This is good news for farmers who want to make the birds happier and healthier. ④________
36. The sentence “The researchers recorded all these sounds and studied their waves.” can be put in ________.
A.①B.②C.③D.④

A.B.

①The world’s highest ski place, Chacaltaya, was closed after the 18, 000-year-old glacier melted (冰川融化) in 2009. Many scientists agree that the glaciers around the world could disappear in this century, much faster than we thought.
②As we all know, the reason for this is global (全球的) warming. When certain gas such as carbon dioxide (CO₂) is largely emitted (排放) into the air, it causes the greenhouse effect (效应) which makes Earth warmer.
③As Earth becomes warmer, glaciers melt quickly, and dark rocks are uncovered. Then these rocks take in more heat, causing the temperature to rise. As a result, the remaining snow on glaciers melts faster.
④Global warming will have a bad influence. While the melting of glaciers may bring floods in some areas of Earth, in other places, it is making water disappear. More and more heat waves and droughts (干旱) will also change the face of the world in the future.
⑤Global warming is a real problem, and one largely caused by human activity. Solving the problem is not easy, and there is no magic way. However, we can begin it by reducing CO₂ in our daily lives.
⑥Peter Miller, along with his wife, took part in a scientific test to see how much CO₂ they could cut down in a month. The average (平均) U. S. family produces about 80 kilos of CO₂, which was more than twice the European average and almost five times the global average. Their final goal was to make less CO₂ than most American families.
⑦First, they found out how much CO₂ they were making. Then they asked an environmentalist for advice. According to the advice, they changed their house, their lights, and some of their living habits. At the same time, they either biked, walked, or used public transportation. A month later, they saved 70% on electricity than before, 40% on gas, and drove half as much as others. Their daily CO₂ emissions were less than the U. S. average, at 32 kilos.
⑧Protecting our earth starts small: change a light, open a window, walk or bike. With a little effort, and not much money, most of us can make a difference.
41. What does the writer think of global warming?
A.Impossible. B.Serious. C.Meaningless. D.Amazing.
42. Which of the following diagrams can explain why glaciers melt faster?

C.D.
43. How does the writer show that Peter succeeded in the scientific test?
A.By listing numbers. B.By asking questions.
C.By giving examples. D.By giving advice.
44. Which of the following shows the structure of this passage?

C.D.45. Where is the text probably taken from?

The Nobel Prize in Physiology (生理学) or Medicine 2024
This year’s Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was presented to American scientists Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun for discovering “micro RNA” and how they help control genes (基因). The announcement took place in Stockholm, Sweden. The great news 56 (cover) live.
This is the 57 (three) year that the scientists in this field got this prize continually. In 2023, Katalin Karikó and Drew Weissman won for their research on mRNA. In 2022, Svante Pääbo won for studying the DNA of ancient 58 (human) and how they evolved (进化).
There 59 (be) many great discoveries since scientists started studying genes in 1944. These discoveries allowed people to start changing genes. This helped improve plants and animals 60 (quickly) than before.
More importantly, scientists started using this knowledge to create new medicines and treatments for diseases 61 they finished making the map of the human genome in 2003. Although 62 is not easy to change genes in human babies before they are born, scientists have found ways to treat diseases by 63 (make) small changes to DNA already. Now they can remove or fix genes with tools like
CRISPR/Cas9, known as “genetic scissors”, to treat cancer. CAR-T cell therapy, 64 new treatment that helps people fight blood cancer, also uses gene technology.
The discovery of micro RNA may lead to even bigger progress in medicine. This gives hope to many people 65 serious diseases that may one day be cured. People have said that the 21st century is the age of life sciences, and the progress in gene science is proving that to be true.
