skill和ability指善于做某事的能力，是通过学习获得的：She weaves with great skill (ability). （她非常善于编织）。

capacity主要是指接受能力，即对某种能力一学就会：The child shows a great capacity for learning languages. （这个孩子学语言的能力很强）。

competence指技能达到能胜任某项工作的程度，但不是非凡的程度：a test of one?s competence as a driver （驾驶能力的考试）。

faculty是指某一方面的技能或才能：the faculty of never forgetting people?s names （能记住别人姓名的能力）。

重点提示 1. 在正式的书面语中最好避免使用get, 而是根据意思分别使用become, receive, obtain, move等词，以免产生歧义。

2. 在
英式英语中，get和become都可以表示“成长为”，如He?s getting (to be) (=becoming) an old man.在美式英语中，to be不能省，但只有在不至于理解为“获得”时，才用get来表示此意。

3. 英国人说get to know sb.是表示认识（理解）了某人，而美国人这样说时还可以表示“被允许”或“有机会”，如She never gets to drive the car. （她从来没有机会开车子）。
