One of the more interesting aspects of horticultural societies is that it is often women who exercise political power and authority in their society. Anthropologists (人类学家) and travellers alike call attention to the special standing and respect that women enjoy in Austronesian cultures generally and the Philippines in particular. Children often sleep with parents, and brothers or sisters share a bed. Early immigrants to America from Europe brought with them a collective style of living, which they retained until late in the 18th century. Historical records document a group-oriented existence, in which one room was used for eating, entertaining guests, and sleeping.People ate soups from a communal pot, shared drinking cups, and used a common pit toilet. In Mexico, the meaning and organization of domestic space is strikingly different. Others say that the purpose of education is to achieve personal ambitions. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
1:The purpose of education has been discussed by many and I believe it is to fulfill personal ambitions and become valuable members of society. To achieve personal growth and success is the starting point of people receivingeducation. In order to achieve this end, parents and teachers help the young to learn what is important in life, how they are expected to behave and what role they will play in their world. Only by finding out these answers can a young person be ready to live independently. However, to survive and prosper, as an individual, either at school or in society, cooperation is essential, or the importance of which can be hardly exaggerated. No one can solely rely on his or her own talents to achieve success. Therefore, understanding and learning how to cooperate with others and how to contribute to the life of one's community is highlighted in schooling today. That is the reason why schools today provide moral and ethical education which is reflected in activities such as unpaid community work. Helping students experience working and living with people from a whole variety of backgrounds is the key to get them ready for the wider society outside of campus. To conclude, living in a world where people become increasingly interdependent, people should be reminded of the fact that the achievement of personal aspirations and goals is not at the expense of one's social responsibility, and a well-balanced education will be most conductive to both individual and social progress.(304 words)范文2:For many years, people all over the world have been arguing about the purpose of education. Some contend that education is mainly meant to prepare people to become useful members for the society, while others believe that people receive education in order to realize their individual dreams. My opinion is that these two views are more compatible than conflicting.Ours is a highly complex society which, in order to function, needs people with diverse expertise, and education is certainly the best way for the society to get these people. For instance, engineering schools help train people who know how to operate machines in manufacturing factories and graduates from foreign languages universities can serve as a bridge between two nations who would otherwise be unable to communicate with each other. It is indeed impossible to imagine what our society would be like without education. For individuals, however, education is important for them to achieve their personal ambition. That is actually what people pay their education for.A man who dreams of becoming an astronaut must receive strict training in an aviation school and he who wishes to become a banker ought to be equipped with knowledge about banking by studying at a financial university. It is,therefore, reasonable to conclude that one of the primary purposes of education is to make people into what they aspire to.In my view, the social function and individual function of education are actually the same and one thing. When education has fulfilled its function of making individual’s personal dreams come true, its function of creating useful members for the society is fulfilled as well.(270words)。

P2Describe a rule at your school that you agree or disagree. You should say:What it isWhy it is madeWhat are the consequences of breaking the ruleAnd explain why you agree or disagreeP3Should companies have rules?Should companies decide how long the working hours are? What kinds of rules do Chinese families have?Do you think strict rules are necessary in schools?
Though I really love my school life, there is one rule that I could hardly agree. We are all required to wear the school uniform every day. I know that this rule is made to ensure that we wouldn’t distract our attention from study or we wouldn’t compare with our classmates on something like brand clothes. But it is really distressing to wear the same clothes everyday, not to mention that the school uniform are all very loose and especially not friendly to short and thin girls. Besides, since we are not allowed to wear other clothes, shoes become the only thing that could distinguish us from other people. So shoes, especially brand shoes suddenly has become what everyone likes. If any student breaks the rule intentionally, they would face severe punishment, which is detention. It seems that teachers are especially fond of this kind of punishment and they would order anyone who violates the discipline to detent. In my opinion, the reason why teachers, including parents, are positive about the uniformed dress or detention is that it requires little effort, and they believe if children will learn to be disciplined if they are punished.I am totally against the rule because I think as teenagers, we have the right to express our comprehension of beauty by choosing the clothes we wear. More importantly, it is a sign of respect and confidence. I think the right value should be nurtured through guidance, not harsh rules. P2Describe an interesting place that few people knowYou should say:Where it isWhen you go thereWhat you can do thereAnd explain why few people know thereP3What kinds of tourist sites are popular in your country? What can government do to prevent pollution in tourist sites? What are the advantages of visiting less known places? What are the disadvantages when there are too many tourists in one site?P2解析:题目要求描述一个很少有人知道的但很有趣的地方。

(00603)1、My Love of Living a Frugal LifestyleFor some reason, it seems that frugality is often associated with deprivation and being cheap. In my opinion, true frugality is anything but this. Frugality is about having more experiences. It’s about living more on a little less. Ever since discovering the world of personal finance about four years ago, I’ve become totally fascinated by the power of frugality. It’s a lifestyle. I’ve learned to embrace. I love living a frugal lifestyle. because my efforts have resulted in additional benefits that go beyond the immediate impact of cash savings. It has turned me into a more goal- oriented, resourceful and appreciative person.Frugality leads me to focus on my priorities. My commitment to being frugal started with identifying my motivation for embracing the lifestyle. Why am I willing to give up a shopping trip to the mall? What makes me unwilling to eat out for birthday celebrations these few years? Evidently, I need to place the top priority on paying off my student loans by next year! Frugality inspires me to constantly evaluate the choices Fm making in order of importance. One other reward is that frugality has helped me to appreciate what I have, which has nothing to do with money. When I choose to live with less, I begin to respect what I already have. I take better care of the things I own and this attitude extends to appreciating the beauty of life itself. I often experience this enhanced level ofthankfulness for the wonders of nature and the items I value, thanksto my frugal mindset It sounds clich6, yet the more grateful I feel, the less I want.To sum up, I take great pride in my present frugal living. Cuttingback unnecessary purchases and throwing away the non-value stuffmakes room for what’s really important I5ve learned to handlebudget-related problems more resourcefully, repairing and reusing old items for a more sustainable, greener way of living. Spending lessbut appreciating what I have encourages me to live a richer life. In many cases, one doesn’t need to spend money to be happy. Being frugal also offers me more chances to display my resourcefulness. Instead of dashing to the store to replace something broken, I’ve developed a reflex of first fixing it myself, finding a low-cost alternative or trying to make do without. I look for ways to reuse things before throwing them away. Re-purposing or recycling the stuff has become a great way to save money as well as to live a greener life. Whenever a piece of clothing becomes too worn to wear, I cut it upinto rags for room cleaning instead of throwing it away. As a plus, my D1Y skills have also improved a great deal.【评分参考】1、本部分满分 20 分,按四个档次给分。

"The short answer is yes, but there is more about the myths of Scottish "skirts."The "skirt” that Scots men(苏格兰男子)sometimes wear is called a kilt. It is part of the traditional dress of Scotland. The kilt is clearly very famous across the world. It seems that everybody has heard of it , and that most people have seen a picture of a man wearing onePeople,s knowledge and ideas about Scotsmen wearing these funny kilts come from films and television. Every time people from other countries ask about the kilt , they mention Mel Gibson,s film , Brave heart. In many countries, there are television programmes about Scotland. These programmes always include information or images of men in kilts.Of course, in Scotland, you will often see the kilt. The reality is, though ,that you will most commonly see it in tourist areas. The main streets and tourist areas of Scotland always have a Scotsman wearing a kilt and all tourist shops in the country sell kilts in different colours. But kilts are not something that Scottish people see every day. Kilts are for special occasions, such as weddings, funerals and other big and important events. Scotsmen do not put on their kilt just to buy a bottle of milk and a loaf of bread at the local supermarket The reason for this may be that kilts are very expensive. When a man wears a kilt, he normally wears it with a special shirt , jacket, socks and shoes. This is obviously not cheap. I am convinced that it is absolutely necessary to make this idea come true as soon as possible. Admittedly, the relatively high cost of art education renders it difficult to be prevalently compulsory. Take painting for instance. Due to the fact that there are various kinds of painting classes, the expenses like pigment, paintbrushes and painting paper may pose some financial burden to family where money is tight. Besides, the particular requirements of the teaching environment may further add to the overall costs of aesthetic education, making it more unaffordable. Yet, the situation can be alleviated by increasing national subsidies or the lowering the expectation of constructing a fancy studio. Meanwhile, the merits of aesthetic education outweigh its drawback since students can have access to a wide range of knowledge through appreciating these artworks in class. For example, compared with the limited narration in history book, one of the masterpieces of Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci, The Last Supper, displays a scene of religion in a more vivid and profound way. Art classes provide students with another opportunity to think and these classes are significantly complementary to some core classes such as math and science. Additionally, the underlying merits of attending art classes will benefit the students in the long run, which are no less than those of studying some core subjects. The abilities like to be focused, to be detail-oriented and to be persistent will be conducive to students' comprehensive ability and career development as well.尾段对主体段的主要观点(艺术教育有助深化知识,学科互补,提高综合能力)进行总结~In conclusion, aesthetic education should be made compulsory, for it helps deepen students' acquisition, complement other subjects and contributes to their overall competence and career progress as well.
The statement that " access to higher education should be based on academic merit, not wealth" is a topic that has sparked extensive debate and discussion. While there are compelling arguments in favor of merit-based admission systems, there are also significant concerns regarding the role that wealth and socioeconomic status play in educational opportunities. One of the primary advantages of basing access tohigher education on academic merit is that it ensures that the most qualified and capable students have theopportunity to pursue their studies. By rewarding students for their hard work and academic achievements, merit-based systems promote a culture of excellence and strive toidentify the most promising candidates for higher education. Additionally, by focusing on academic rigor, merit-based systems help to maintain high standards within educationalinstitutions and foster a competitive environment that encourages students to excel. However, it is also crucial to acknowledge thepotential drawbacks associated with merit-based admission systems. Critics argue that such systems can exacerbate existing inequalities and hinder the progress of students from disadvantaged backgrounds. By prioritizing academic merit, these systems may inadvertently create barriers for students who lack access to quality educational resources or who face systemic obstacles. Moreover, merit-based systems may reinforce the notion that success in higher education is solely determined by individual ability, overlooking the broader societal factors that contribute to educational outcomes. To address these concerns, some experts advocate for a more holistic approach to admissions that considers a broader range of factors beyond academic merit. This approach seeks to level the playing field by taking into account students' socioeconomic backgrounds, extracurricular activities, and other experiences that maynot be fully captured by traditional academic measures. By considering a wider range of criteria, holistic admissions systems aim to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within higher education institutions.Ultimately, the question of whether access to higher education should be based solely on academic merit is a complex one that requires careful consideration of both the benefits and drawbacks. While merit-based systems have the potential to ensure that the most qualified students have the opportunity to pursue their education, they may also unintentionally perpetuate existing inequalities. To achieve a more just and equitable higher education system, it is essential to strike a balance between academic excellence and a commitment to accessibility and inclusion.

In 2017, technology has played a significant role in transforming the way we teach and learn. This essay will discuss the positive and negative aspects of this technological transformation within the education system. On the positive side, technology has made education more accessible to a wider range of people. Online courses and virtual classrooms have made it possible for students to learn from anywhere in the world, without the need for physical attendance at a traditional school. This has opened up opportunities for those who may not have had access to education otherwise.Furthermore, technology has also made learning more interactive and engaging. Multimedia tools, such as videos, simulations, and interactive applications, can help students better understand complex concepts. This can lead to increased retention of information and better academic performance.Additionally, technology has also made it easier for teachers to personalize instruction for each student. With the use of data analytics and adaptive learning software, teachers can better target areas where students need improvement and provide individualized support. However, there are also drawbacks to the increasing reliance on technology in education. One major concern is the potential for technology to replace human interaction in the learning process. Some argue that technology cannot fully replace the role of a teacher in motivating and guiding students.Furthermore, there is also a risk of over-reliance on technology leading to decreased critical thinking andproblem-solving skills in students. With the easy access to information provided by technology, students may become accustomed to finding quick answers rather than developing their own analytical skills. In conclusion, while technology has brought about many positive changes in the education system, it is important to be mindful of the potential drawbacks. Balancing the use of technology with traditional teaching methods can help ensure that students receive a well-rounded education that prepares them for the challenges of the future. Ultimately, technology should be seen as a tool to enhance learning rather than a replacement for human interaction and critical thinking skills.。
