高中英语_Module 6 Animals in Danger教学设计学情分析教材分析课后反思
TEACHING DESIGN

Module 6 Animals in danger单元小结According to statistics from the WWF, standingfor World Wide Fund for Nature, over 12,000 animal species are on the brink of being extinct. The WWF has setup many branches in 90 countries in all five continents, aimed at monitoring some projects, involving founding nature reserves, protecting animals’ natural habitats and not wastingenergy and protecting the endangered species in the world. Thanks to the WWF’s great efforts, the conditions have greatly improved.Tibetan antelopes, feedingon grass and living on the QinghaiTibetan Plateau were once in danger of extinction because of the poachers’ illegal hunting. Why do poachers hunt the antelope? That is because the antelope’s wool is the most ideal material for coats or shawls. The wool is worth much. Many people areconcernedabout the antelope’s safety and work as volunteers to protect the antelope as well as other wildlife. In the battles, some of volunteers were killed. The poachers were so cruel that they skinned the antelopes on the spot. Sometimes, police raids make the policemen confiscate many wool and skin products. Meanwhile, the police gettoughwith the dealer. Now, the number of the antelopes has greatly grown. It is really a wonder.根据WWF,即世界自然保护基金组织的数据,有12 000个动物物种正处于灭绝的边缘。

Module 6Animals in Danger维A 阅读理解(2012·浙江,A)Easter(复活节) is still a great day for worship, candy in baskets and running around the yard finding eggs, but every year it gets quite a bit worse for bunnies. And no,not because the kids like to pull their ears. The culprit is climate change, and some researchers found that rising temperatures are having harmful effects on at least five species of rabbit in the US.Take the Lower Keys Marsh rabbit, for instance. An endangered species that lives in the Lower Florida Keys, this species of cottontail is a great swimmer—it lives on the islands!—but it is already severely affected by development and now by rising sea levels. According to the Center for Biological Diversity, an ocean level rise of only 0.6 meters will send these guys jumping to higher ground and a 0. 9meter rise would wipe out their habitat(栖息地)completely. The snowshoe hare,on the other hand, has a color issue. Most of these rabbits change their fur color from white in the wintertime to brown in the summer, each designed to give them better cover from predators(捕食者).As the number of days with snow decreases all across the country, however, more and more bunnies are being left in white fur during brown dirt days of both fall and spring, making them an easier mark for predators.Researchers know that the color change is controlled by the number of hours of sunlight, but whether the rabbit will be able to adapt quick enough to survive is a big question. The National Wildlife Federation has reported that hunters have noticed their numbers are already markedly down.American pikas or rock rabbits, a relative of rabbits and hares, might be the first of these species to go extinct due to climate change. About 7-8 inches long, pikas live high in the cool, damp mountains west of the Rocky Mountains. As global temperatures rise, they would naturally migrate(迁移)to higher ground-but they already occupy the mountaintops. They can't go any higher. The National Wildlife Federation reports thatthey might not be able to stand the new temperatures as their habitat heats up.The volcano rabbit has the same problem. These rabbits live on the slopes of volcanoes in Mexico, and recent studies have shown that the lower range of their habitat has already shifted upward about 700 meters, but there are not suitable plants for them to move higher, so they are stuck in the middle.Scientists are concerned about their populations.Native to the US, pygmy rabbits weigh less than 1 pound and live in the American West. They are believed to be the smallest rabbits in the world. Their habitats have been destroyed by development.Several populations, such as the Columbia Basin pygmy, almost went extinct and were saved by zoo breeding programs.Pygmy rabbits also rely on winter cover by digging tunnels through the snow to escape predators, but lesser snowfall is leaving them exposed. All of this gives new meaning to dressing up in a giant bunny costume this Easter. 1.The writer mentions Easter at the beginning of the passage in order to________.A.show the importance of Easter DayB.introduce the issue about bunniesC.remind people of Easter traditionsD.discuss the relationship between Easter and bunnies2.The word “culprit” (Paragraph 2) is closest in meaning to________.A.criminal B.judgeC.victim D.producer3.According to the passage, some rabbits can now be easily discovered by predators because they________.A.are exposed to more skillful huntersB.have moved to habitats with fewer plantsC.haven't adapted themselves to climate changeD.can't change their fur color into white in the fall and the spring4.The problem faced by volcano rabbits and rock rabbits is that________.A.both are affected by less snowB.both are affected by rising sea levelsC.neither can find enough foodD.neither can migrate to higher places5.Which best describes the writer's tone in the passage?A.Approving. B.Concerned.C.Enthusiastic. D.Doubtful.【语篇解读】本文是一篇科普性短文。

Neither side feels hurt by this. Both may exchange Christmas greeting for a year or two, perhaps a few letters for a while- then no more. If the same two people meet again by chance, even years later, they pick up the friendship where it left off and are delighted. In the States, you can feel free to visit people’s homes, share their holidays, enjoy their children and their lives without fear that you are taking on a lasting obligation. Do not hesitate to accept hospitality (款待) because you cannot give it in return. No one will expect you to do so for they know you are far from home. Americans will enjoy weling you and be pleased if you accept their hospitality easily.Once you arrive there, the wele will be full and warm and real. Most visitors find themselves readily invited into many homes there. In some countries it is considered inhospitable to entertain a home, offering what is felt as “merely”home cooked food, not “doing something”for yourguest. It is felt that restaurant entertaining shows more respect and wele. Or for various other reasons, such as crowded space, language difficulties, or family custom, outsiders are not invited into homes. In the United States, both methods are used, but it is often considered more friendly to invite a person to one’s home than to go to a public place, except in purely business relationships. So, if your host or hostess brings you home, do not feel that you are being shown inferior (差的) treatment.Don’t feel neglected (被忽视) if you do not find flowers awaiting you in your hotel room either. Flowers are very expensive there, hotel delivery (递送,投递) is uncertain, arrival times are delayed, changed, or canceled –so flowers are not customarily (通常) sent as a weling touch. Please do not feel unwanted! Outward signs vary in different lands; the inward wele is what matters, and this will be real.1.In the United States, you will find friendships __________ if circumstances change.A.die suddenlyB. pass awayC. disappear graduallyD. last forever2.Americans _________ their foreign friends to make a return for their hospitality.A.askB. wishC. never allowD. don’t expect3.In some other countries, giving a dinner party at home is considered _______ than in a restaurant.A.less friendlyB. less hospitableC. more naturalD. more popular4.According to the passage, which of the following is NOT true?A.Flowers are available at all time.B. Flowers are expensive.C. Flowers are signs of outward wele.D. Flowers are not necessarily sent to guests.5.Which of the following is the best title for this passage?A.American HospitalityB. American FriendshipsC. American InvitationD. American WeleBIn the days when Hayes was President, the White House was still a small crowded place. There were no back door or side doors and so people ing and going had to use the formal front entrance.Once in the course of a formal reception at the White House the British Minister’s wife whispered to Mrs. Hayes that she had to leave early and asked whether it was possible for her to slip away unnoticed by a side door. Mrs. Hayes called her son Hayes Junior who knew everycorner and nook (隐蔽处) of the White House like the palm of his own hands. As there were no back or side doors through which the Minister’s wife could slip out, Hayes Junior thought of the basement which was used to store coal, old furniture, and other old things. So he led the Minister’s wife into the basement and showed her way out through a small door beside the coal storage place which led the way up on to the street. Luckily there was no one around to witness the unusual appearance of the British Minister’s wife from underground. She stealthily (暗地里、悄悄的) found her carriage and hurriedly drove away.Back safely in the Minister’s residence (官邸), she chuckled (咯咯笑) with delight at her most unusual and exciting “escape”from the White House.1.Which of the following is NOT true according to the first paragraph?A.Hayes was President of the US, who preferred to live in a small crowded place.B. People use them on trains and airplanes, in airports and hotels. These laptops connect people to their workplace. In the United States today, laptops also connect students to their classrooms.Westlake College in Virginia will start a laptop puter program that allows students to do schoolwork anywhere they want. Within five years, each of the 1500 students at the college will receive a laptop. The laptops are part of a $10 million puter program at Westlake, a 110-year-old college. The students with laptops will also have access to the Internet. In addition, they will be able to use E-mail to “speak”with their teachers, their classmates, and their families. However, the most important part of the laptop program is that students will be able to use puters without going to puter labs. They can work with it at home, in a fast food restaurant or under the trees- anywhere at all!Because of the many changes in puter technology, laptop use in higher education, such as colleges and universities, is workable. As laptops bee more powerful, they bee more similar to desktop puters. In addition, the portable puters can connect students to not only the Internet, but also libraries and other resources. State higher-education officials are studying how laptops can help students. State officials are also testing laptop programs at other universities too.At Westlake College, more than 60 percent of the staff use puters. The laptops will allow all teachers to use puters in their lessons. As one Westlake teacher said, “Here we are in the middle of Virginia and we’re giving students a window on the world. They can see everything and do everything.”1.
