• ALONG THE RIVER DURING CHING MING FESTIVAL known in Chinese was the work of Song Dynasty artist, Zhang Zeduan. The painting captures the daily life of people from the Song period at thecapital, Pien Jing (today's Kaifeng). The theme celebrates Ching Ming Festival (Qingming Festival). The entire piece was painted in handscroll format and the content reveals the lifestyle of all stratum of the society (from rich to poor) as well as different economic activities in rural areas and the city. It offers glimpse of the custumes and architecture during the period. As an artistic creation, the piece has been well revered and over the centuries, court artists of subsequent dynasties have reproduced several versions.

Pavilion Preview Theme: Chinese Wisdom in Urban Development Highlights: Traditional Dougong Style National Pavilion Day: October 1 Location: Within Zone A of the Expo Site Pavilion Features The main structure of the China Pavilion, "The Crown of the East," has a distinctive roof, made of traditional dougong or brackets, which date back more than 2,000 years. The dougong style features wooden brackets fixed layer upon layer between the top of a column and a crossbeam. This unique structural component of interlocking wooden brackets is one of the most important elements in traditional Chinese architecture. Dougong was widely used in the Spring and Autumn Period (770 BC-467 BC).

• The emblem, depicting the image of three people-you, me, him/her holding hands together, symbolizes the big family of mankind. Inspired by the shape of the Chinese character"世"(meaning 世 the world), the design conveys the organizers' wish to host an Expo which is of global scale and which showcases the diversified urban cultures of the world.
