APhiladelphia (CNN) — Hazel Donnelly was taking her husband to the doctor when they got a call that their building was on fire. Her first thought was about Kramer. “I don‟t have children of my own, so my cat is like my child. I became very sad,” said Donnelly, 50. “What if he didn‟t make it?”Once she arrived home, Donnelly asked firefighters (消防员) to get her cat, but they were busy trying to control the fire. Then Red Paw Emergency Relief Team arrived. The organization helps pets and their owners for free when disaster strikes. Jen Leary, who set up the group, helped find the animals once the fire was out.“Everyone who received their pets started to cry,” said Donnelly. No one was hu rt, but the Donnellys‟ building was badly damaged, and they weren‟t sure where they were going to stay. Donnelly was excited to learn that Red Paw could provide free short-term care for Kramer, her 17-year-old cat.“When someone loses everything in a fire, they shouldn‟t then be forced to lose their pets — their family members —as well,” Leary said. “Letting them know, …We‟ll take care of your animal like it is our own‟ means the world to people.”After a big fire in 2011, Leary formed her organization. Since then, Leary and her group have provided help to nearly 1,000 animals and their families throughout southeastern Pennsylvania. Like the Red Cross, but for animals.Red Paw cared for the Donnellys‟ cat for more than three weeks. “I cried when we were reunited,” said Donnelly. “They went above and beyond the call of duty. I am so thankful.”For Leary, helping fam ilies and their pets is what her work is all about. “My hope is that it‟s a start, and they can move forward together,” she said. “After going through such a sad thing, it‟s so good to have a happy ending.”21. We can infer from the text that Kramer is _____.A. Donnelly‟s husbandB. Donnelly‟s childC. a firefighterD. a cat22. What do we know about Red Paw?A. It offers help to pets and their families.B. It was set up by Hazel Donnelly.C. It belongs to the Red Cross.D. It saves people in disasters.23. The fire in the Donnellys‟ building _____.A. took many people‟s livesB. caused great damage to the buildingC. left Donnelly seriously hurtD. led to the loss of a family member24. Who looked after Kramer for a long time after the fire?A. A doctor.B. Jen Leary.C. Red Paw.D. The Red CrossBWelcome to Death Valley. The very name of this national park in eastern California might fill some people with dread, but you‟re not afraid. You‟re j ust out enjoying the desert sunshine. Besides, there‟s nothing out here but some rocks. Some of the rocks in Death Valley weigh hundreds of pounds. And in the ground behind each rock is a mysterious trail (痕迹), as if the rock had been pushed along in the dirt.So who is moving the rocks? Nobody. It was nearly 100 years ago when these unusual “sailing stones” were first reported. People have been trying to find out the stones‟ secret ever since. One early explanation was that winds were moving the stones. Other explanations have included animals, and, of course, aliens (外星人).Until the 1990s, one widely held theory was that the rocks were stuck in sheets (片) of ice that were being blown across the desert. (Death Valley does get cold enough for ice to form on some winter nights.) However, research later showed that to move such large ice sheets, the wind would have to blow at hundreds of miles per hour. There are strong winds in Death Valley — but not that strong. Then, in 2006, a scientist named Ralph Lorenz came up with a new theory. He suggested that in the winter, thick ice forms around the rocks. When the ground begins to thaw (解冻), the rocks, wearing ice, sail along, leaving trails behind them. Lorenz put his theory to the test in his own kitchen. He dropped a rock into a dish, added a little water, and stuck the dish in his fridge. Later, he took out the rock and placed it in a dish of water with sand at the bottom. Sure enough, with just a breath, Lorenz was able to send the rock moving across the water — leaving a trail in the sand as it moved.Has Lorenz solved the mystery of the sailing stones at last? Perhaps. On the other hand, neither Lorenz nor anyone else has ever actually seen the stones move. Maybe aliens are responsible after all.25. The underlined word “dread” in Paragraph 1 probably means “_____”.A. fearB. angerC. surpriseD. excitement26. According to the theory in the late 20th century, the rocks were probably moved by _____.A. the iceB. the windC. aliensD. animals27. What did Ralph Lorenz find?A. The wind in Death Valley could reach a speed of 100 mph.B. The rocks in Death Valley couldn‟t move by themselves.C. Death Valley could get cold enough for ice to form.D. Water helped the rocks in Death Valley move.CDear friends and colleagues (同事) of Tom Blumenthal,We are organizi ng a celebration honoring Tom‟s research career (生涯). BlackfriarsBMany people may not find the idea of visiting Beijing’s Forbidden City just to see its cultural relics(遗迹)very exciting. But what if you got to see deer there too? That certainly sounds like a better day out.Nine deer were introduced into the Forbidden City, also known as the PalaceMuseum, on Sept. 26 and would make it their home until February. The beautiful animals are part of an exhibition on deer-related relics, including furniture, clothes and artworks. In ancient China, deer patterns(图案)could be seen on lots of items since lu —deer —were considered to be a lucky animal because the Chinese word shares the pronunciation(发音)of the character that means “official salary(俸禄)”.The deer in the Palace Museum are not only to be part of the exhibition, but also to act as ambassadors(大使)to attr act visitors. “It’s a better way to bring cultural relics closer to the people, ”explained Wang Yamin, a deputy director at the Museum, according to China Daily.Turning itself into a zoo is the latest effort that the museum has made at introducing academic(学术的)art to ordinary people. In 2014, for example, the museum’s online store started to offer products such as T -shirts featuring the pattern of an emperor’s coat, and earphones looking like the necklaces worn by ancient officials. These products soon gained popularity on social media because they allowed people to wear a piece of history. Two years later, the TV series Masters in the Forbidden City (《我在故宫修文物》)lifted the mysterious veil(面纱)on the experts who work in the museum —people whose job is to repair the relics within it. And while many of us may have imagined these workers to be old and boring, they’re actually quite young and interesting. Some are even in their 20s. They lead a peaceful career, although it can sometimes be dull. Workers aren’t all owed to wear anymake-up or do their nails(指甲)because the chemicals(化学物质)may damage the relics they’re working on, for example. Little by little, the Palace Museum is shaking off the stereotypes(刻板印象)of being an old-fashioned academic institution. As Shan Jixiang, the museum’s director, once said, “Academic research is not alien from the public’s interest. We’d like to make visiting the museum a part of people’s daily lives. ” It looks like the Forbidden City isn’t so forbidden after all. 4. What can be concluded about the deer in the Forbidden City? A. They would stay in the museum for a whole year. B. They are part of an exhibition as lucky animals. C. They have been introduced to help attract visitors. D. They were brought to the museum for an artwork study. 5. Why did the online store’s products become so popular? A. They were cheap and of high quality. B. They combined culture with everyday items. C. They featured mysterious patterns. D. They were advertised on social media a lot. 6. According to Masters in the Forbidden City , experts working in the museum________. A. think their job is boring B. are mostly old but experienced C. must be careful with their work D. enjoy working on their own 7. What’s the article mainly about? A. An interesting exhibition on animal-related relics. B. Popular products related to ancient Chinese culture. C. What the Palace Museum does to protect cultural relics.D. The Palace Museum’s efforts to change its image.Ⅱ. 七选五阅读理解根据短文内容, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

考试时间100分钟。
第Ⅰ卷(选择题共65分)Ⅰ.阅读理解(共两节,满分35分)第一节(共10小题;每小题2.5分,满分25分)AThe trip to Alishan in TaiwanIt was the fourth day of our trip to Taiwan, bright but cold. After a good breakfast we put on our jackets and gloves, pulled on our hats and got into a car. We travelled for about two hours, up, and up, and up the mountain road.We finally arrived at the top of the mountain. It was Christmas Day. So imagine my joy to see icicles (冰柱) hanging from branches and the whiteness of the scenery. Indeed, it was my first Christmas in the northern hemisphere (半球) and, guess what? It even started snowing too. How amazingly exciting for me to have Christmas in my grandmother's hometown, and to experience icicles and snow! Alishan is really beautiful, especially seen from this dizzy height. After Sun parked the car, we got out and looked down through the trees. It hadn't snowed hard enough so there was no snow on the ground, just loads of pine needles. There was a most wonderful smell of pine sap (松液) drifting up to us from the ground. It was very quiet, except for the twittering of birds, and the odd car passing along the road. Quietness in Taiwan is something to treasure.Over the road was a small stall so we went over to it. Theywere selling some drink steaming hot in paper cups, too hot to hold immediately. We jumped around to get warm. There was a cool wind blowing up the side of the mountain, and the clouds above us were moving along quickly. I could imagine there was quite a strong wind blowing up there, so I was glad we were down on the ground! The drink cooled down fairly rapidly. I picked up my share and, wow, what a lovely smell was coming from it. It was the smell of ginger (姜). I took a sip. How delicious, and so this was ginger tea, which I had never tried before. It warmed my body so quickly that I could feel the heat travel right down to my fingers and to my toes. This was very good stuff. And then it was time toleave as we were going down to Hualian to eat hot pot, and drink some Shaoxing rice wine.1. Why was the author excited and amazed to see icicles?A.Because she had never seen icicles before.B.Because she liked icicles very much.C.Because it was her first time to experience a cold Christmas.D.Because it was her first time to experience winter.2. Which of the following words can be used to describe Alishan?A.Beautiful, cold, quiet. B.Strange, white, quiet.C.Crowded, cold, bright. D.High, white, crowded.3. What did the author describe in the third paragraph?A.It was very interesting staying on the mountain.B.It was blowing strongly on the mountain.C.She enjoyed herself very much in the cold.D.She was greatly amazed by the ginger tea.BI came to the United States ten years ago. I would always say that I was trying to study, but there were always things like work and my kids that would not allow me to start. Now I realized that those were only excuses. What stopped me was that I was afraid to start studying again. I always believed I would learn by myself. One day, however, my son told me that he was sad because his friends would come over and I didn't understand them because I didn't speak English. He was also sad because I could never help him with hi s homework. That same day, I told myself, “Rocio, you have to start believing in yourself and you will see you can make it.”The next day, I went downtown to look for a big banner (横幅) in front of the school which said that they offered classes for adults. I came in to see if I could join, but the classes were closed already. That night I took the kids to the movies, and on the way back, I told them we would take a new route. I ended up getting lost. That's the way I found Chaffey College. The following Monday, I went to ask for information. They told me that summer school was starting that week. That's how I started studying English last summer. It is difficult, but I have had great rewards. My daughter had written a story for school. It was about the female they most admired and why. She wrote that I was the person she most admired because I had started going to college. I willnever forget this.4. According to the passage, the author probably is a ________.A.teacher B.doctor C.father D.mother5.What made the author make up her mind to study English?A.What her son said. B.What her daughter said.C.Thinking about herself. D.Thinking about her daughter.6. How did they find Chaffey College?A.On the way to the movies. B.They took a new route and got lost.C.Ask a stranger for information. D.According to the banner.CIf man's best friend is a dog, then who is a dog's best friend? That would be Rover, Glow, Ivan or Raina. They recently donated (捐赠) blood to other dogs. And they did it without having to travel far from home: they visited an animal bloodmobile.Like the Red Cross vehicles for humans, the University of Pennsylvania's travelling vet lab goes to where the donors are to make it easier to give. The bloodmobile makes weekly rounds through Philadelphia and New Jersey.Like humans, not every dog is qualified(合格的) to donate blood. The dogs are examined for health first. Dogs must have the correct blood type, weigh at least 55 pounds and be under 8 years old. About 150 dogs take part in the programme. Each donates three or four pints(品脱) a year, which can help animals suffering from illness like cancer or an accident like being hit by a car.Sandy Lucas brought her 7-year-old dog, Raina, to the bloodmobile last week. She said she wouldn't have to take the dog to Vet's animal hospital in downtown Philadelphia, which is twice as far from her home. “I was very, very excited that she had the right blood that was needed to help another dog out,” said Lucas. “We'll surely do it again.”Just like people, the donors get a snack and a heart-shaped sticker immediately after giving. What's more, they receive dogfood to take home.If dogs are doing what they can to save other dogs, why can't we do it to save other people? Next time you hesitate(犹豫) over whether to donate blood or not, think of the dogs.7.The writer mentions Rover, Glow, Ivan and Raina in Para.1 mainly because ________.A.they are man's best friendsB.they are common names for dogsC.they get along well with other dogsD.they have donated blood to other dogs8.What do we know about the travelling vet lab?A.It is a Red Cross vehicle.B.It collects dogs' blood for other dogs.C.It travels through Philadelphia every day.D.It was donated by the University of Pennsylvania.9.What can we learn from Para.4?A.Sandy Lucas is unwilling to let her dog donate blood.B.The bloodmobile welcomes dogs from anywhere in the city.C.Penn Vet's animal hospital in downtown Philadelphia is popular.D.The animal bloodmobile has made it easier for dogs to donate blood.10.By writing the last paragraph, the author wants to ________.A.ask us to help dogsB.show the importance of dogsC.encourage us to donate bloodD.compare humans with dogs第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

2018届高考英语(人教)复习课时训练:必修一 unit 3 travel journal含答案

课时规范训练(三)Ⅰ.阅读理解A(2017·湖北武汉调研)Today we were heading out to what is arguably one of the most beautiful natural wonders of this region, Saklikent Gorge (峡谷),a 300meterdeep canyon that is close to Fethiye. However, first,we had to enter the canyon. Before us was a raging river about 20 meters across, and we would have to wade (跋涉) through to get to the entrance of the gorge. I lost my breath when my foot made contact with the water. My whole foot had turned numb. I shot out of the water, fast as a rabbit, screaming like a wild dog. I'm sure it was a sight to see. Dad and Lalika seemed to bear it better, as they were the first to begin heading through the fast flowing waters.Soon it was up to their knees, but battling their way through they were the first of our family to make it across. During this time I was considering if I really wanted to go through with this. The look on Mom's face showed me that there was no alternative. She took my hand and we began making our way through the icecold water to the sound of Lalika's cheers.I nearly slipped at one point but thankfully I recovered in time and Mom and I came out of the water half dry and very happy. Then the canyon was in front of us.I began to wade through the softest flowing grey clay that had deposited itself over thousands of years between this magnificent Moorish pink gorge towering over me. I was surprised that the locals hadn't already made a beauty industry out of this, mining this natural resource, when I remembered that thankfully, it was a protected national possession, located in a national park. That didn't stop Dad and Lalika from making a mud pack, as the two of them smoothed the liquid clay all over their faces, arms and legs. The mud also made great war paint and Lalika and I had a really fun timeapplying it before role playing a fierce battle of the clans (家族). After about 45 minutes of walking, we came to a fork in the canyon, and we decided to return.1.What did the author think of the river?A.Cold. B.Deep.C.Wide. D.Dirty.2.What made the author decide to cross the river?A.Dad and Lalika's example.B.Mom's facial expression.C.Strong determination.D.Family promises.3.Why could Saklikent Gorge be preserved?A.It was hard to enter.B.It belonged to the locals.C.It had no value to develop.D.It had been protected by the government.4.What can we learn about the canyon?A.It is colorful. B.It is muddy.C.It is boring. D.It is scaring.【语篇导读】本文是作者一家到萨克利肯特峡谷旅游时的描述,在当地政府的保护下,自然美景得到保护,让游客享受到了独特的自然美。
