Learning is anytime, anywhere with anyone。

2015考研英语作文必背

2015考研英语作文必背Introduction:The postgraduate entrance examination in China is a critical step for many students aiming to further their education. The English essay component is particularly challenging, as it tests not only the candidate's language proficiency but also their ability to construct a coherent and persuasive argument within a limited time frame. For the 2015 examination, certain themes and essay structures were emphasized. Here are some must-know elements for crafting a successful essay.1. Understanding the Prompt:Before you start writing, it's crucial to understand what the essay prompt is asking. In 2015, prompts often required students to discuss social issues, technological advancements, or ethical dilemmas. Make sure you grasp the question's requirements to avoid going off-topic.2. Structuring Your Essay:A well-structured essay typically includes an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each section should flow logically into the next, with clear transitions that guidethe reader through your argument.3. Introduction:Begin with a strong introduction that outlines your thesis statement. In 2015, it was essential to provide a brief overview of the topic and state your position clearly. Avoidbeing too general; instead, focus on the specific angle you will explore in your essay.4. Body Paragraphs:Each body paragraph should focus on a single main idea that supports your thesis. Use evidence, examples, or logical reasoning to back up your points. In 2015, essays that demonstrated a deep understanding of the subject matter through detailed examples scored higher.5. Conclusion:Your conclusion should summarize your main points and restate your thesis in a new way. It's not just a repetition of your introduction but a final chance to leave a strong impression on the reader. In 2015, a conclusion that offered a call to action or a thought-provoking question was particularly effective.6. Vocabulary and Grammar:Use a diverse and advanced vocabulary to express your ideas. However, ensure that the words you choose are appropriate for the context and that you use them correctly. Additionally, maintain proper grammar and sentence structure throughout your essay.7. Practice with Sample Essays:One of the best ways to prepare for the essay section is to practice writing with sample prompts. In 2015, many students found it helpful to analyze and emulate the structure and style of high-scoring essays from previous years.8. Time Management:During the exam, allocate your time wisely. Spend a few minutes planning your essay, ensuring you have a clear structure before you start writing. Leave enough time for a final review to check for any errors or inconsistencies.9. Be Original:While it's important to follow the guidelines andexpectations of the exam, try to add your unique voice and perspective to your essay. This can make your writing standout and demonstrate your individual thinking skills.10. Proofreading:Always proofread your essay to correct any grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, or awkward phrasing. A polished essay with no errors will score higher than one with several minor mistakes. Conclusion:Preparing for the 2015 postgraduate English essay involved understanding the prompt, structuring your response, using appropriate vocabulary and grammar, and practicing withsample essays. By focusing on these must-know elements, you can increase your chances of writing a compelling and high-scoring essay.。

在题目设计上,这篇文章的五个题目依次考察了文章结构(text structure), 措辞与态度(use of specific words and phrases to shape meaning and tone), 人物观点(point of view or perspective),文本依据(citing textual evidence)和隐含语义(implicit meanings)这五个考点。

(But it was not only that the coming to his house of a bit of hopeful young life was like the lighting of a fire on a cold hearth. The girl was more than the bright serviceable creature he had thought her.)。

2015Exam7

2015Exam7

2015 Exam 7Estimation of Policy Liabilities, Insurance Company Valuation, and Enterprise Risk ManagementThe syllabus for this four-hour exam is defined in the form of learning objectives, knowledge statements, and readings.LEARNING OBJECTIVES set forth, usually in broad terms, what the candidate should be able to do in actual practice. Included in these learning objectives are certain methodologies that may not be possible to perform on an examination, such as complex simulations, but that the candidate would still be expected to explain conceptually in the context of an examination.KNOWLEDGE STATEMENTS identify some of the key terms, concepts, and methods that are associated with each learning objective. These knowledge statements are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of topics that may be tested, but they are illustrative of the scope of each learning objective.READINGS support the learning objectives. It is intended that the readings, in conjunction with the material on the lower numbered examinations, provide sufficient resources to allow the candidate to perform the learning objectives. Some readings are cited for more than one learning objective. The Syllabus and Examination Committees emphasize that candidates are expected to use the readings cited in this Syllabus as their primary study materials. Thus, the learning objectives, knowledge statements, and readings complement each other. The learning objectives define the behaviors, the knowledge statements illustrate more fully the intended scope of the learning objectives, and the readings provide the source material to achieve the learning objectives. Learning objectives should not be seen as independent units, but as building blocks for the understanding and integration of important competencies that the candidate will be able to demonstrate.Note that the range of weights shown should be viewed as a guideline only. There is no intent that they be strictly adhered to on any given examination—the actual weight may fall outside the published range on any particular examination. The overall section weights should be viewed as having more significance than the weights for the individual learning objectives. Over a number of years of examinations, absent changes, it is likely that the average of the weights for each individual overall section will be in the vicinity of the guideline weight. For the weights of individual learning objectives, such convergence is less likely. On a given examination, in which it is very possible that not every individual learning objective will be tested, there will be more divergence of guideline weights and actual weights. Questions on a given learning objective may be drawn from any of the listed readings, or a combination of the readings. There may be no questions from one or more readings on a particular exam. After each set of learning objectives, the readings are listed in abbreviated form. Complete text references are provided at the end of this exam syllabus.Items marked with a bold SK or SKU constitute the 2015 CAS Exam 7 Study Kit that may be purchased from the CAS Online Store. Strategy Exam 2015Study guideThe exam is “open book and open notes”. Computers or other electronic devices, including cell phones, are not allowed. The exam consists of three parts: 1) a case analysis (guided by precise questions from me) 2) open questions (see examples at the end of this document), and 3) multiple choice questions. The exam is set up to reflect the relative emphasis we put on various issues during our class discussion. Expect numerous questions from topics 1-5 below. Although I will not ask questions about the cases we discussed in class, my expectation is that you understood the main messages of each case.As an indication, part of the exam last year was based on a shorter version of the Bananas case. General advice: Make sure you understand the main concepts and be ready to apply them. The topics discussed in this class can be grouped in the following categories1. What is strategic coherence? What do we mean by trade-offs? Why are strategic coherence and trade-offs important when analyzing a firm’s strategy? What is the difference between« strategy » and operational effectiveness?Relevant Reading “Can you say what your strategy is? “ by Collis & Rukstad2. Industry analysiso Be prepared to perform Porter’s five forces analysis + identify the role of the force of “complements”, whenever relevanto Use PESTEL framework to analyze how the industry will evolveo In Porter’s five forces, Rivalry is usually depicted in the middle, suggesting that Rivalry is not only influenced by the direct competitive a ctions taken by incumbent firms, but also by the strength of other forces. Be prepared to discuss how the other forces influence the degree of rivalry in price and non-price dimensions.o How can a firm reshape industry forces in its favor?o When performing an industry analysis, why is important to distinguish betweensubstitutes and complements?Relevant reading: Porter’s article3. Positioning: Is the firm pursuing a low cost or a differentiation strategy? Is the firm targetinga narrow segment of the market or does it compete rather broadly? Make sure you understand the difference between vertical and horizontal differentiation. What conditions should a differentiation / low cost strategy meet in order to be successful? (This question will be asked in the context of a case; the general criteria a listed on the slides).See lecture notes4. Analyze firm’s activities in terms of willingness to pay and cost implications. Relative to the average competitor, does the firm have a competitive advantage?Relevant reading: "Creating Competitive Advantage" by Ghemawat & Rivkin.5. Make sure you understand the d ifference between the concepts of “econom ies of scale”, “learning economies”, and “minimum efficient scale”. What is the relevance of these concepts in the context of industry (five forces) analysis? How do economies of scale and learning economies affect positioning?Source: lecture notes; Porter’s article6. Competitor response: how do you expect competitors to respond to a firm’s decision s? Our in-class analysis of Telmore case is relevant here.7. Competitive advantage and sustainability of competitive advantage: Once you analyzed whether and how the firm creates competitive advantage (as per point 4 above, and as we did in class when we discussed Southwest, Bananas-Demonstrate, and Telmore cases), can you identify which of the firm’s resources and capabilities are quintessential for the firm’s competitive advantage? This requires you to identify which resources and/or capabilities are valuable, rare, and difficult-to-imitate. You can start from identifying resources by type and capabilities by function. Alternatively, you may start from the value chain of the firm, and at each step of the value chain you need to identify the resources- capabilities that a firm uses in order to complete that activity in the value chain. Finally, assess whether the firm is well organized to fully exploit the competitive potential of its valuable and rare and difficult-to-imitate resources/capabilities. Source: lecture notes8. Threats to the sustainability of a firm’s competitive advantage: what “isolating mechanisms” may help a firm to sustain its competitive advantage?Isolating mechanisms are economic forces that limit the extent to which a competitive advantage can be duplicated or neutralized through the resource-creation activities of other firms. Isolating mechanisms are to a firm what an entry barrier is to an industry: just as entry barriers impede new entrants from competing away profits from incumbent firms, isolating mechanisms prevent other firms from competing away the extra profit that a firm earns from its competitive advantage.I emphasized two broad categories of isolating mechanisms:The category of “I mpediments to imitation” focuses on factors that impede other firms and potential entrants from duplicating the resources and capabilities that form the basis of a firm’s advantage. Examples include path dependency, causal ambiguity, time compression diseconomies, legal protection, complementarities or “fit”, superior access to inputs or customers. Notice that these are the same factors that we discussed in the context of VRIO analysis. According to this classification, a valuable, rare, and inimitable resource/capability creates the basis for a sustainable competitive advantage. In addition, firms can also enjoy what we call “Early-mover advantages”: these are isolating mechanisms that increase the power of a firm advantage over time. Examples include learning curve, reputation under buyer uncertainty, network effects, and buyer switching costs.Relevant material: lecture notes + “Sustainability of Competitive Advantage” by Eric Van den Steen, especially pages 2 and 3.9. What is the difference between direct and indirect network effects?Make sure you are able to discuss the role of network effects (direct and indirect) when performing a Porter’s five forces analysis and a firm analysis.Relevant material: Summary notes from the videogame case and all readings that mentioned network effects, including the article on the “Strategic Decisions for Multisided Platforms” by Andrei Hagiu.Example of open questions:A famous quote from Warren Buffett states: “When a management with a reputation for brilliance tackles a business with a reputation for bad economics, it is the reputation of the business that remains intact.”How would a brilliant manager refute Buffett’s statement? Provide theoretical arguments related to both industry and firm factors followed by concrete examples from the cases we studied in class. Notice that “economics” here refers to the industry in which the firm operates. Why is Rivalry in an industry characterized by a) product innovation b) advertising more likely to be moderate? When is entry with high variable costs and low fixed costs preferable to entry with comparably low variable costs and high fixed costs? (hint: Telmore case)。
