A British worker didn’t stop his hiccups until eight months later. People from all over the world wrote him letters with suggestions for getting well. He tried them all, but the hiccups continued. Finally, he drank a “secret” mixture that someone sent him. By that evening his hiccups were gone.

Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you. Well, ni-hao. (Laughter) It is such a pleasure and an honor to be here with all of you at this great university, so thank you so much for having me. It’s also about having real experience with the world beyond (超出) your borders—experience with languages, cultures and societies very dif ferent from your own. There are several causes leading to poor eyesight (视力) like not enough food, genes (基因) and aging (变老). Televisions, computers and reading are also the causes of having poor eyesight. If you work in front of the computer, it is best to take a break every once in a while. Something dirty can cause redness and they will make you feel uncomfortable. It is bad for your eyes, too. If this
