Leave a camera on a mountaintop, and chances are, you'll never see it again. But 24-year-old Paul Bellis, a university student from Wales, believed that most people were better than that, and set up a creative experiment to test out his theory.
"I was speaking to a friend who said you can't trust anyone, anywhere these days," Bellis told the Daily Mail. "I didn't want to believe that so I set up this experiment to find out what might happen and prove you can trust people."
Billis decided to do an experiment by hiking up a mountain called Snowdonia, taking a photo, and leaving his camera behind. He also attached a note to the camera, asking other hikers to take photos of themselves and then leave the camera there until the roll of film (胶卷) was empty. He also included his address, in case someone would be nice enough to return the camera to his home after the roll of film was finished.
Four days later, Bellis got a visit from a Snowdonia park manager, who came to return his camera. After Bellis got the film developed, he saw that his fellow hikers and followed his instructions. Thirty people had each taken photos of themselves at the mountain. From viewing the collection, it was clear that all the hikers had enjoyed the experiment.

Speak, speak, speak!
Practise speaking as often as you can. Speaking to yourself is good practice.
Try recording yourself whenever you can.
Compare your pronunciation with the master version(原版)to see how you can do better and have another go. If you do this several times, you will find that each time is better than last.
Why not learn with someone else?
It helps if you can learn with someone else. If you can persuade a friend or family member to study with you, it will make you keep working.
Don't get stuck by a word you don't know.
Practise improving ways of getting your meaning across when speaking spontaneously(本能地),even if you don't know the exact words or phrases. Think of things you might want to say whenever you have spare time. Use facial expressions, hand movements, anything to make yourself understood.
Language learning is also about intuition(直觉).
Guesswork is an important way to learn a new language. When listening to recorded material, you aren't expected to understand everything first time round. If you play the same piece several times, you will most probably understand something new each time.
Build up your vocabulary.
A wide vocabulary is the key to successful language learning but don’t try to learn too much at once. It’s best to study frequently, for short periods of ti me. Take at most six or seven items of vocabulary and learn them. Put them into sentences to fix them in your mind, and then come back to them later.
And above all, have fun!

B. Move away from a place to another.
C. Enter a certain state or condition.
D. Follow or take a certain course.

63. According to the passage, to learn a new language well, the most important thing is ______.
A. speaking as much as possible

If you think American cooking means opening a package and throwing the contents into the microwave oven (微波炉),think again. On one hand, it’s true that many Americans have cold cereal ( 谷类食品) for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch and instant dinners. From busy homemakers to working people, many Americans enjoy the convenience of fast food that can be ready to serve in 10 minutes or less. On the other hand, many Americans realize the importance of cooking skills. Parents-especially mothers-see the importance of training their children-especially daughters. Most Americans think that there’s nothing better than a good home-cooked meal. But with cooking, as with any other skill, good results don’t happen by accident.
Probably every cook has his or her own way of cooking. But there are some basic skills that most people follow. For example, baking is a main method of preparing food in America. For that reason, Americans would find it next to impossible to live without an oven. American cooks pay special attention to the balance of foods, too. In planning a big meal they try to include meat, a few vegetables, some bread and often a dessert. They also like to make sure the meal is colouful. Having several different colors of food on the plate usually makes for a healthy meal.
For those who need guidance in their cooking, or for those who have just run out of ideas, recipes are a great help. Recipes list all the ingredients for a dish ( generally in the order used ), the amount of each to use, and a description of how to put them together.
64.The underlined word “ convenience “ in the first paragraph means _______________.
A. the lower and acceptable price
B. being suitable to one’s comfort or needs.
C. The high quality and low price.
D. The unusual taste of the food.
65.Many Americans have cold cereal for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch and instant dinner because ______________.
A. they like instant food very much
B. they don’t like cooking at all.
C. most American working people are busy and don’t have time to cook
D. fast food is delicious and it usually contains a lot of vitamins.
66.From the passage, we know that _____________.
A. Americans don’t care about food
B. Americans are not good at cooking because they like to use recipes
C. an oven plays an important role in cooking for Americans
D. while cooking, Americans usually run out of ideas

VII. 书面表达(25)
One possible version:
Dear editor,
I’m writing to tell you about the discussion we recently had about whether it is good or not for families to own cars.
With the development of people’s living conditions, more and more people have their own cars. Some of us think it good to own a car. Firstly, it’s a convenient, fast and comfortable means of transportation tool. You can go to a lot of places at any time. Secondly, it shows that people are becoming richer, and the country stronger. It also makes businesses and industries develop faster.
Others have different opinions. They think that cars give off waste gas and pollute the environment. Too many cars will have some bad effects, such as more accidents. Besides, parking cars is another big problem. Maybe people should think carefully before they buy a car.
Yours truly,
Li Hua。
