Module 4 seeing the doctor
Unit 1 I haven't done much exercise since I got my computer Hello! Everyone. My name is Christine. I'm from Aquileia Middle School of Hefei. Today, I'm very happy to be here and share my lesson with you. My topic is "M odule 4 Seeing the doctor Unit 1 I haven t done much exercise since I got my computer". My lesson is made of seven parts. Firstly, let’s move to part l to talk about the teaching material.
Part 1 Analysis of the teaching material
This lesson is a listening and speaking passage. It is about healthy living and it is related to our daily life. In unit l, it begins with Daming’s experience of seeing the doctor. And the doctor gives the suggestions by asking some questions. Students learn to act out a conversation between a doctor and a patient with the present perfect tense. By learning this conversation students will know more about present perfect tense and some new words and sentence patterns which can be used to express their illnesses with others in their daily life. What's more, they will understand the importance of health and how to take care of themselves.
Part 2 Analysis of the students
Although Students have learned English for more than five years. It is not difficult for them to understand this topic, the students in grade 8 are afraid to speak in English in public, so the teacher should encourage them to speak English loudly in class. So when I design the lesson I will try my best to make them know the main idea the conversation and new words and language patterns. Before they make up they own conversation between a doctor and a patient, I will ask them to talk about Christine's healthy problem.
Part 3 Teaching aims
I set three aims according to the New curriculum Standard in English.
The first one is knowledge aims:
Students can know some new words such as, cough fever, headache, stomachache, toothache, and so on and master the sentence patterns. “What's wrong with you How long have you been like this”
The second one is ability aim:
Students can understand and read the language material about the experience of seeing the doctor and act out a conversation between a doctor and a patient.
The last one is emotional aim:
Through this lesson, students will realize the importance of health and how to take care of themselves.
Part 4 Teaching important and difficult points
I set my important and difficult points as follows:
Teaching important points:
To master the target words and sentences pattern and learn to use the present perfect tense including "for” and "since”.
Teaching difficult points:
To make a conversation about Christine's problem and act out a conversation between a doctor and a patient.
Part 5 Analysis of teaching and study methods
I will use Multi-media teaching method, Situational teaching method and PWP method during my class.
Part 6 Teaching procedures
After greeting the students, I lead in the new lesson by a question "Do you think what is more important, health or study" Through asking and answering, my class atmosphere will be warmed and I can create the situation to lead in the topic of this unit.
Step2 Pre-listening
Then it comes to the pre-listening, in this stage, I will show some pictures and the ask them to predict what's the matter with them. Through this step, students can learn some new words and language patterns "What's wrong with her/him What's the matter with her/him I've got a headache/toothache/...” and can also pave the way for next activity listening.
Then Show some pictures and match the words and expression in the box with the pictures to make students understand the listening material more easily and drill new words.
Step 3 While-Listening
In this step, firstly, I will play the recording and students will listen and complete the following table Through the listening, students will know what's the matter with Daming and Betty
Secondly, I show a picture that shows Daming is at the doctors. Then present some questions of doctors Such as "Can I help you How long have you been like this’Through the step, students will read the questions in the correct pronunciation and tone.
Thirdly, I ask students to listen to another recording and complete the table. For the table I will play the recording twice.
Through listening to the tape twice, students can understand the details of this listening material better. Also, they can master the target language: “since, for”
In this section, Firstly, I will organize a pair work, make students work with their partner to talk about Daming's illness.
The purpose of this activity is to make students understand Daming's problem more and improve students' speaking ability.
Secondly, I will ask students to guess my health problems and then discuss in groups. Besides, students will give me a lot of advice to keep healthy.
Through the discussion, students will brainstorm a lot of advice to keep fit and it can pave the way for they own dialogue. What's more, review language patterns of giving suggestions.
Thirdly, In this section I will ask students to act out a conversation between a doctor and a patient and invite some groups to share their performance.
Through the activity it can not only consolidate the knowledge in this class, but can also promote their relations with their friends.
Step 5 Summary and homework
Because time is limited, I make a summary and tell them to take care of themselves.
Through the steps, students will consolidate what they have learnt and give them more chances to speak English after class.
