Wow, it's just breathtakingly massive and beautiful. We went on a few hikes into the canyon and I felt so tiny compared to those huge rock walls towering above me. We even got to go whitewater rafting down the Colorado River which was equal parts terrifying and exhilarating.On the way back home, we drove through New Mexico and Texas which felt like an entirely different planet after the lush greenery in the east. Everything was just sandy, dry, andcactus-filled for miles and miles. But we did get to stop at Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo which is this quirky art installation of half-buried Cadillacs. I thought it was so random and cool.After three weeks on the road, we finally made it back home to Massachusetts. I was happy to sleep in my own bed again but also sad the trip was over. Today I want to tell you all about my summer vacation last year. It was the best summer ever!First, my family went on a big road trip across the country. We drove all the way from our home in California to New York City! It took us five whole days of driving. I got pretty bored in the car after a while, but my little brother and I found ways to entertain ourselves. We played road trip games like I Spy and the License Plate Game. We also watched lots of movies on the tablet.When we finally made it to New York, it was amazing! The city is so big and crowded and loud. The buildings are super tall, way taller than any buildings back home. We stayed in a hotel right in the middle of Manhattan. Our room was tiny but who cares when you're in New York City!We did all the typical touristy things - went to the top of the Empire State Building, saw the Statue of Liberty, walked through Central Park. My favorite was the Metropolitan Museum of Art though. There was so much incredible art to look at. I could have spent days in there! We also saw two Broadway shows which was a dream come true for me. I loved the singing, dancing, and amazing costumes and sets.After a week in New York, we drove down to Washington D.C. I thought it was really cool getting to see places I've learned about in history class in real life. We went to all the memorials and monuments like the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. My favorite was the National Air and Space Museum though. All the rockets, airplanes, and space exploration exhibits were fascinating.From there, we drove south towards Florida. We stopped at Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia on the way. It's kind of like a living museum, with people dressed up like it's the 1700s. We got to see what colonial life was like back then - the houses, schools, farms and everything. It was like stepping back in time!Finally we made it to Orlando, Florida for the last stop on our road trip - Disney World! I've been dreaming about going to Disney since I was a little kid. It did not disappoint! We spent six full days at the different Disney parks. I loved all the rides, especially Space Mountain and Splash Mountain. Meeting the Disney characters in real life was also so exciting. We waited in line forever to get pictures with Mickey, Minnie, the Princesses, and more.On the very last night, we watched the fireworks show at the Magic Kingdom. It was the perfect ending to the perfect vacation.Bright colors exploded across the sky as classic Disney songs played. I felt like I was inside a dream. Even though the trip was over, I'll never forget the incredible memories we made.Writing about it is making me want to go back! Maybe next summer we can take another epic family road trip. Today I want to tell you all about a really fun field trip our class went on last month.It was a beautiful spring day in late April when we loaded up on the big yellow school buses to head out to Miller's Farm. Miller's Farm is this huge working farm out in the countryside about an hour from our town. They have all kinds of animals and crops, and they offer educational tours and activities for students.When we arrived, we met up with our tour guide, a friendly older man named Mr. Jenkins. He was dressed up like anold-timey farmer in overalls and a straw hat. Mr. Jenkins started by taking us around to see all the different animals they have on the farm.First up were the cows. They had a whole herd of black and white Holstein cows grazing out in the pasture. Mr. Jenkins told us that the cows get milked twice a day and that milk gets pasteurized and bottled right there on the farm to be sold. He let a few of us take turns trying to milk one of the cows by hand. It was harder than it looks!Next were the pigs. I'll be honest, the pig pen was pretty smelly! But it was cool seeing all the big pink pigs lounging around in the mud. Mr. Jenkins said they had just had a new litter of piglets born a couple weeks ago. The little babies were so cute and tiny!We also got to see horses, goats, sheep, chickens, turkeys, ducks, and geese. For the chickens and turkeys, Mr. Jenkins reached into the coops and let us hold some of them if we wanted. Their feathers felt really soft and scratchy at the same time. The roosters were pretty noisy though!After seeing all the animals, we went over to check out the fields where they grow crops. They had huge fields planted with corn, soybeans, wheat, and even cotton. Mr. Jenkins showed ushow the cotton plants have little boles full of soft white fluffy cotton that has to be picked by hand. He let us each take a cotton plant home as a souvenir.Then it was lunchtime, and we had a picnic outside at the pavilion on the farm. Everything we ate for lunch was fresh from the farm - juicy red apples, crunchy baby carrots, thick slices of sweet yellow corn, fluffy rolls, and even hand-churned butter and ice cream made right there! It was all delicious.After lunch, we split up into smaller groups to go do some fun activities. My group went to try our hand at milking cows, gathering eggs, shearing wool from the sheep, and grinding corn to make cornmeal. The other groups did things like go on a hayride, pet and brush the horses and ponies, weed the vegetable gardens, and collect fresh honey from the beehives.Once we had rotated through all the activities, it was almost time to leave. But not before one last awesome thing - Mr. Jenkins brought out his vintage 1950s tractor and gave us all rides around the farm on a hay trailer behind the tractor! We even got to take turns sitting up in the tractor cab with Mr. Jenkins while he drove it.On the bus ride back to school, we were all exhausted but had smiles planted on our faces. We quickly rushed upstairs to pack some backpacks with supplies like water, snacks, flashlights and jackets. Once our parents gave us the okay, we piled into Mike's beat-up old van and hit the road!The drive out to the desert took a few hours, but it went by quickly as we blasted music and joked around together. Finally, we pulled off onto a remote dirt road that wound its way through the sandy desert hills and scrubby bushes."Okay guys, we're getting close. Keep your eyes peeled for any signs," Mike instructed, squinting at the old map. We slowly crept along, feeling like explorers searching for a lost city of gold.Then, there it was in the distance - a crumbling wooden building silhouetted against the twilight sky. "That's it! That has to be the ghost town!" Jake shouted, pointing excitedly. We pulled over and piled out, staring in awe.The place was deserted, with an eerie quiet to it. Tumbleweeds rolled through the dirt streets, and the empty windows of the buildings seemed to stare back at us. An old sign read "Mendez Mining Co." in chipped letters."This place is so cool!" I said in a hushed voice, almost afraid to disturb the ghostly stillness. Mike grinned and beckoned us to follow as he started wandering down the main street.For the next few hours, we explored every nook and cranny of that place. We wandered through decrepit old homes, their rooms frozen in time with dusty furniture and knick-knacks left behind. We climbed up into the mining company's rusted processing buildings and factories, peering down into deep shaft openings in the earth.In one spot, we even found an old West-style saloon with a weather-beaten wagon sitting outside! The swinging doors and barroom inside made it look like the patrons had just gotten up and left one day. Sooo cool.Eventually, the light began to fade, so we set up a campsite on the outskirts of the ghost town. We built a roaring campfire and set up our tents, then sat around eating s'mores and telling spooky stories about the ghost miners who must haunt the place. An owl hooted mournfully in the distance.I've gotta say, sleeping out in a legit ghost town was one of the most thrilling yet terrifying experiences ever! Every creak and groan of the old buildings in the desert wind made me jolt awake, wondering if it was the restless spirits of the mining folk.The next morning, we packed up our camp and did one final explore around the ghost town before reluctantly heading back home. On the drive, we swapped stories about our favorite spots and sights, already making plans for our next adventure."That place was incredible! Maybe next time we can bring some metal detectors and do some treasure hunting," Jake said wistfully. I stayed up way too late binge watching it.Then in mid-July, my family went on an amazing trip to the beach for a week. We rented this huge beach house right on the ocean. Every morning I would wake up to the sound of the waves crashing on the shore. So peaceful and relaxing!During the days, we spent hours playing in the water and sunbathing on the sand. The ocean was bright blue and the weather was sunny and hot - perfect beach weather. I loved bodysurfing and riding the waves. A few times, I got crushed byhuge waves and got saltwater up my nose. Not fun! But most of the time it was awesome.In the evenings, we would have barbecues and make s'mores around the fire pit. The sunsets over the ocean were just breathtaking. Vibrant pinks, oranges and reds painting the sky. I tried to take some good pictures but they never quite captured how beautiful it really was.One day, we went on a snorkeling tour to see coral reefs and marine life up close. Putting on all the snorkeling gear was a hassle, but once we got in the water it was amazing! We saw so many tropicalfish in every color of the rainbow. There were angelfish, parrotfish, clownfish like Nemo, and more. The coral was vibrant purples, greens, yellows and blues. Like an underwater rainbow forest! I even spotted a sea turtle slowly swimming by. It was magical。
