Supermarket giant Tesco is putting £15 million into a "field to fork" project to take a million primary school kids around farms and factories and show them where meat produces and dairy products come from.
The Eat Happy Project comes as research showed a fifth of 5-to-11-year-olds think of carrot cake or tomato ketchup(番茄酱) as their five fruits and vegetables a day. Worryingly, one in five believe chicken is the main ingredient in fish fingers(炸鱼条) yet nine out of 10 think they know which food is good for them.
Chris Bush said, “There is a gap(间隙), not just in the knowledge our children carry with them but in the basic relationship they have with food.” Supermarkets and the food industry have been to blame for childhood obesity(肥胖).
Mr. Bush said Eat Happy is “a contribution, not a magic bullet, I am also realistic that some people will challenge us to have a more immediate influence by stopping selling unhealthy alternatives which children find attractive. I don’t think that is a lasting solution. We will create the healthy habits of a lifetime.”
Eat Happy will take children behind the scenes to see how vegetable is grown, bread is baked, cheese and butter is made as well as seeing cows being milked. Schools who are unable to take children on farm, factory or store outings will be able to enjoy a virtual(虚拟的) field trip using Google’s Connected Classroom technology which will let them talk to UK farmers as well as growers around the world.
Parents, schools and food retailers(零售商) and manufacturers all have a responsibility to make sure our children are eating healthy, nutritious food. Being overweight from an early age puts our children at an enormous disadvantage from the word go.
4. Why did Tesco start Eat Happy Project?
A. Kids have a poor knowledge of food.
B. Kids don’t know which food is good for them.
C. Kids are the potential customers in future.
D. Kids are curious about where food comes from.
5. How does Mr. Bush find Eat Happy Project?

C. It isn’t a lasting solution to childhood obesity.
D. It won’t create a healthy habit of a life time.
6. How will kids learn through Eat Happy Project?
A. By visiting biggest supermarkets.
B. By working as farmers or growers.
C. By going on a field trip.
D. By making food for themselves.
7. The underlined phrases“from the word” may mean .
A. from the very beginning

What do you think of when someone mentions good chocolate, watches, the Alps, cows and cheese? You might think of Switzerland, but these things don’t give the whole picture because they say nothing about the Swiss people. Last summer I spent six weeks with a host family in the Bernese Alps.
Like many, I am loud and energetic around friends, but in class I’m shy and find it hard to speak up during discussions. For me, homesickness has never been an issue, but I did have reservations(持保留态度). Doubts like “Will my host family like me? What if I get lost?” troubled me.
My host family (most Swiss people) left their windows open ---without screens---all the time. At first I thought, Oh my god, all the bugs are going to get in and eat me alive. Why don’t they close the windows and turn on the air? But then I realized there weren’t many bugs and I really enjoyed the fresh air. My host father also couldn’t get over the fact that my family has three people and three cars while they have one car for five people, which is typical.
Probably my biggest shock was the language. I expected the Swiss to speak German, but they spoke a dialect called the Swiss German, which has hardly anything in common with German. I couldn’t understand when my host family talked to each other. The
Swiss can understand Germans, but Germans cannot understand the Swiss. Anyhow, many people knew and were extremely willing to speak English.
My host parents worked a lot, so if I wanted to go somewhere, I had to take the train by myself. Sometimes I would visit Americans I met on the plane to Zurich.
I had to trust myself to make the right decisions, and react and respond properly.
There is more about Switzerland than cheese and watches.
8. It is implied in the second paragraph that ________.
A. the writer had a feeling of doubt about others
B. the writer felt homesick for her family very much.

9. The writer mentioned the open windows to prove ________.
A. the bugs in Switzerland can eat people alive.
B. the Swiss can’t afford to fix screens on windows.
C. the Swiss’s culture is different from that of America.
D. the Swiss people saved energy effectively.
10. What surprised the writer most?
A. The Swiss have a cleaner environment.
B. The Swiss have fewer cars in daily life.
C. The Swiss keep their windows open.
D. The Swiss don’t speak German in fact.
11. The fifth paragraph suggests that the writer ________.
A. carried her baggage everywhere
B. become independent

On Feb.4, 2014, the US government formally announced it planned to remove the Oregon chub(白鲑鱼) from its Endangered Species List. This minnow(鲤科小鱼) would be the first living fish to be removed. Other species have been removed from the list, but usually because they became extinct.
The Oregon chub isn’t big or showy. Named after their home state of Oregon , they used to fill the muddy marshes(沼泽) of a valley created by Willamette River.
But farmers dried water from much of the valley to make way for planting. This reduced the muddy waters available to the chub. In addition, communities freed “foreign”game fish into area rivers. But those game fish fattened up by dining on the chub.
To help the little fish recover, scientists made first solution nicknamed “chub in a tub”. Researchers moved some of the struggling chub into shallow, newly dug ponds on farms and other lands. Here the chub could live without getting eaten by other fish. Each pond took up about as much land as a house. Planted cattails lined its edges. These plants offered places for chub to hide from the birds that eat them.
Biologist Brian Bangs spent years checking on the chub to see whether their numbers were growing. But Chub habitat can be like quicksand, Bangs notes. It will suck(吸进) you right in. “ I was stuck in the mud for at least 40 minutes one time,”he recalls. “I was up to my waist in the deep mud, just moving back and forth and trying to get myself out.” They say, although Oregon chub are small, these fish do play an important role in nature.
13. What causes Oregon chub to die out?
A. The marshes have been dried up for farming.
B. The valley has been created by the river.
C. The game fish have been introduced for fishing.
D. The chub have been eaten as delicious food.
14. How did scientists help chub recover in number?
A. By building shelters for them to avoid birds.
B. By raisin them in a house on the farm.
C. By replacing them into newly-dug ponds.
D. By training them to struggle with game fish.
15. To check on the Chub, Brian ______________.
A. is forced to get his waist in mud.
B. is sometimes in danger of losing life.
C. needs to stand in water for about 40 minutes.
D. has to prepare chub habitat like quicksand.

第二节:书面表达
One possible version:
As our city has developed rapidly in recent years, problems are appearingone
after another, one of which is the traffic jam. Not only has the air been polluted,
but also traffic accidents have increased greatly. In addition, too many cars have
wasted lots of resources.
There are several reasons for these problems. Firstly, the number of cars has been increasing day by day. Secondly, our city is old and the streets are narrow. Thirdly, more and more people from the countryside are coming into the city, which makes the city more crowded.
There some solutions to solving these problems. On the one hand, the government should spend more money widening the roads. On the other hand, it can encourage people to take a bus or bicycle. What’s more, it can forbid some cars to run on the road every day.
