如Adela、Manchester、NATO。

If you saw a group of kids hitting and abusing(虐待,伤害)an animal, would you stop them? Would you at least call the police? Again people would walk away. Some people do not believe that animal abuse is a big issue(问题).Every day animals are abused in their homes or on the streets. It seems as if politicians(从政者)do nothing to stop this issue. Every one is worried about education and global warming. What about animals? We should not forget them just because they cannot talk to us. Animals, like us humans, have rights. Every living being has the right to warm shelter and good food, but most importantly, they have the right to be wanted and loved. They have the right to be a special, much loved member of their own family. There are many organizations that deal with abused animals or animals that have no home like ASPCA, PETA, the Humane Society and many more. There are organizations that deal with this issue, but that does not mean that we still shouldn’t help. The biggest saying that bothers me is, “I am only one person. I can’t make a difference.” If everyone thought like that, we wouldn’t have the organizations and loving people who help the world every day. By helping one animal, you are making a difference. There are many things you can do right now to help animals around your neighbourhood. You can volunteer at your local animal shelter, raise money for animal shelters, infor m yourcommunity about animal abuse or you can write to your representatives(代表)and tell them that animal abuse needs to be taken seriously. .As you walk down the street, try to help any animal you see walking a round. You can easily buy a cheap box of dry cat or dog food to feed t heanimals. If we do not help our animals now, we may never have animals ag ain. Alan Kaufman has come up with the “Nubrella”, which means “new” + “umbrella”. It is the first truly hands-free umbrella in the world. The inventor says that it stops rain, wind and snow and can keep your head, face and hair dry.“I never planned to invent a product. I just noticed a problem and had a new idea,”said the inventor. The idea for the invention began on one rainy day. Mr Kaufman was standing in one of his stores. He began to look at people’s umbrellas. He found that they had to try very hard to keep their umbrellas in the right place. At that moment an idea came into his mind. He ran to his desk and drew a picture. In this way, the nubrella was born. One cool feature of the nubrella is that you don’t hold it like a normal umbrella; youwear it. The shoulder straps (肩带) of the nubrella allow people to be fully hands-free, so when walking in the rain with the nubrella, you are able to u se your cell phone or drink a hot cup of coffee. Today I still carry that lesson with me: I listen to c ustomers.E. My grandma’s trust taught me how to handle responsibility.F. Soon I found myself looking more beautiful than ever before.G. Watching my mone y grow was more rewarding than anything I could have bought.I was ten when I first sat with my grandmother behind the cashier(收银台)in her general store. 1 I quickly learned the importance of treating customers politely and saying “thank you.”At first I was paid in candy. 2 I worked every day after school, and during the summer and on weekends and holidays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. My father helped me set up a bank account. 3By the time I was 12, My grandmother thought I had done such a good job that she promoted me to selling cosmetics(化妆品). I developed the ability to look customers directly in the eye. Even though I was just a kid, women would ask me such things as “What color do you think I should wear?” I took a real interest in their questions and was able to translate what they wanted into makeup(化妆)ideas. 4The job taught me a valuable lesson: to be a successful salesperson, you didn’t need to be a Rocket scientist—you needed to be a great listener. 5 Except they are no longer women purchasing cosmetics from me; instead, they are kids who tell me which toys they would like to see designed and developed.题二:A. Teenagers need nine to ten hours. And pre-school children need more than 10 hours of sleep a night.Experts say the quality(质量) of our sleep becomes poor as we grow older. This happens because the brain unit that controls sleep begins to weaken slowly as we age.Experts say the change starts in our 30s. By the time we reach our 50s, a person may have lost 50 percent of his or her ability to have a restful sleep. These people have trouble falling and staying asleep through the night. From middle age on, these problems only get worse, and they can have a bad effect on their health.Signs that show you may not be getting enough sleep:You’re always hungry or you’ve got unwanted weight. The idea is that we will be happier if we often do inexpensive, easy-to-do activities. However, the problem for many of us is that we don’t know what makes us happy. When I was in college, my mother gave me some wise advice. She said, “Before you get married and live with another person, you need to spend some time living by yourself. You need to get to know yourself.”So I did exactly that. For almost two years, I lived by myself. I found that I loved to spend hours looking around in bookstores. I also loved to spend an afternoon just walking around the city. And every so often, I needed the moments of pure silence. But, of course, we all don’t enjoy the same things.A simple pleasure for me would be to spend an hour reading a book in my backyard. However, that same activity would give my husband no pleasure. We are all sodifferent.Sometimes, we already know what makes us happy. However, as life gets busier and we get older, we put aside our simple pleasures. For example, I had to give up playing the flute(长笛)when I started working and had family responsibilities. Playing my flute seemed selfish(自私的) when no one else in my family could join, but three years ago I returned to playing the flute.I regret having ever stopped.Simple pleasures are neither simple nor universal(普遍的).Our simple pleasures are a reflection(反映)of who we are. They are different activities that give each of us joy.Certainly there are some common topics—such as being out in nature, doing something creative, or enjoying music and literature—but beyond that, each of us has to find out what it is that feeds our souls(灵魂).That isn’t always easy in a world in which we have to consider other people’s needs and opinions as well asour own, but enjoying simple pleasures is something that each of us deserves (应得).Think of it as your right, and say to yourself, “Today, I’m going to discover what my simple pleasures are.”12.What is the writer’s opinion about simple pleasures?A.They change as we grow older.B.They can reflect our characters.C.I t’s expensive to achieve them.D.People with no responsibilities can enjoy them.13.What does the writer want to tell by sharing her experience of living alone?A.Wise people often take their mothers’ advice.B.A couple don’t necessarily share the same int erests.C.It’s necessary to live alone before getting married.D.It’s worth spending time alone enjoying simple pleasures.14.What can we learn from the writer’s experience of playing the flute?A.We should develop an interest that others can take part in.B.Making our family happy is better than making ourselves happy.C.Keeping our interests alive is a good method to make ourselves happy.D.Family responsibilities are more important than our own interests.15.In the last two paragraphs, the writerA.s uggests readers pay no attention to others’ opinionsB.encourages readers to get simple pleasures activelyC.teaches readers to balance others’ needs with their own needsD.reminds readers to realize simple pleasures are the most important part of life参考答案A 1-3 DACB [主旨大意] 本文是一篇说明文,阐述了不同年龄段的人每晚需要多长时间的睡眠以及睡眠不足有哪些表现。

So they can help each other. But neither of them likes to use his head. They're both poor though they work hard. Most villagers have built new houses, but they still live in the low and broken houses. They never find out why.Once Uncle Li went to town to buy some medicine for his wife. In the town he heard the apples in a city were expensive. He told Uncle Wang about it as soon as he went back. They decided to carry some apples to the city. They borrowed some money from their friends and bought nearly 1,000 kilograms of apples in the villages and carried them to the city on a tractor. Bad luck! A lot of apples has already been carried there when they arrived. A few days later they had to sell them at a low price (价格)。

2019中考英语二轮复习 阅读理解精练(3)

2019中考英语阅读理解精练(3)第一篇(2019中考教育类选练)Having a teenager at home can be a real headache. Many teenagers smoke, drink and even fight. They often do something dangerous.Earlier studies have shown that teenagers are more likely (可能) to make irrational decisions than people from any other age group, including children and adults. Is it that teenagers are too young to tell right from wrong? Not really. So what’s the reason?According to Laurence, a teacher from a US university, the reason is that teenagers care a lot about how their peers (同龄人) view them—that is “peer influence”.As children enter their teenage years, they spend more time with their friends and classmates, and also they care more about what they think of them. This makes teenagers make decisions without thinking about the costs. In a test, a group of teenagers were asked to play a video driving game. When they played with their friends watching around them, they took more chances and drove more carelessly because that would increase their possibility of winning. But when they played alone, they drove more safely. Why do peers have such a big influence on teens’ behavior? As Laurence sees it, a teenager’s brain is like a car with a good accelerator (油门) but a weak brake (刹车). The “accelerator” is fully developed by teenage years while the “brake” is still not fully developed. When teenagers are watched by their peers, they usually push hard on the accelerator. With their weak brake, it is likely that they are going to end up in an accident. But the good news is that a violent (暴力的)teenager doesn’t necessarily become a violent adult. About two-thirds to three-quarters of violent youth grow out of it. “They get more self-controlled.”1. What does the und erlined word “irrational” in the 2nd paragraph mean?A. Quick.B. Crazy.C. Careful.2. Why are teenagers likely to make wrong decisions according to the text?A. They like difficult tasks.B. T hey don’t care about costs.C. They care a lot about what their peers think of them.3. How does Laurence explain the influence of peer pressure on teens’ behavior?A. By comparing it with how a car works.B. By comparing it with an accident.C. By showing research findings.4. What can we learn from the text?A. Teenagers are easy to have traffic accidents.B. Peer influence is bad on teenagers.C. Most of the teenagers become less violent when they grow up.参考答案1B 2C 3A 4C第二篇xx中考英语阅读理解分类练习:记叙文Twenty years ago, I drove a taxi for a living. One night I went to pick up a passenger at 2:30 am. If you saw a group of kids hitting and abusing(虐待,伤害)an animal, would you stop them? Would you at least call the police? Again people would walk away. Some people do not believe that animal abuse is a big issue(问题).
Every day animals are abused in their homes or on the streets. It seems as if politicians(从政者)do nothing to stop this issue. Everyone is worried about education and global warming.
You can volunteer at your local animal shelter, raise money for animal shelters, inform your
####munity about animal abuse or you can write to your representatives(代表)and tell them that animal abuse needs to be taken seriously. .
As you walk down the street, try to help any animal you see walking a round. You can easily buy a cheap box of dry cat or dog food to feed t he
animals. If we do not help our animals now, we may never have animals ag ain. Always remember that with every step you take, you help save an anim al’s life and isn’t that worth fighting for?

Have you ever wished to have an umbrella that makes your hands free? Alan Kaufman has ####e up with the “Nubrella”, which means “new” + “umbrella”. It is the first truly hands-free umbrella in the world. The inventor says that it stops rain, wind and snow and can keep your head, face and hair dry.
“I never planned to invent a product. I just noticed a problem and had a new idea,”said the inventor. The idea for the invention began on one rainy day. Mr Kaufman was standing in one of his stores.
