The initiative was put forward by Xi in 2013. With its main ideas of joint effort and shared benefits, it has been defined as “a chorus (合唱) of all countries along the routes, not only for China itself” by Xi.
On May 14 and 15 in Beijing, at least 29 heads of state and government are attending the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. The meeting is expected to turn a new page on the initiative.
Since it began just three years ago, the Belt and Road Initiative has progressed very quickly and seen many successful outcomes. China has won the support of over 130 countries and international organizations —more than 40 have signed cooperation agreements with China.
Wang Yiwei, a professor at the Renmin University of Chi na’s School of International Relations, said that since the launch of the initiative, China can share its comparative advantages such as construction and clean energy, abundant fund with the countries and regions along the routes.
A series of major transportation, energy and communication projects have advanced over the past three years, along with the implementation (落实) of the Belt and Road Initiative. These include the multipurpose Padma Bridge in Bangladesh, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, and China Railway Express trains to Europe.
“Through the Belt and Road Initiative, I want to share China’s development opportunities with the countries along the routes and achieve joint prosperity,” Xi said in his speech at the opening ceremony of the business l eader’s forum of

Even if you’ve already seen dozens of inspirational sports movies, Dangal 《摔跤吧!爸爸》is still engrossing. This is because it is “as much a story about sport as it is about a complex father-daughter relationship,” Yahoo commented.
The Bollywood movie, released on the Chinese mainland on May5, tells the story of a father after abandoning his dream of being an international wrestling champion who struggles to turn his daughters into award of winning athletes.
With emotions set to full blast, the story might make you want to cry. And only four days after its release, it became the highest grossing Indian movie in China, making more than 100 million yuan, according to China Daily. So, what makes this movie so special? The reason may be that it strikes a chord with millions of audience members, many of whom find their own connection to the movie.
“It makes me think of my father, his deep love for us. I just cried like a river to release myself from my deep regrets”, a Chinese audience member told the Hindustan Times.
Furthermore, the plot is familiar to Chinese viewers. It is just li ke “the
story of a Chinese village girl becoming an Olympic champion,” said Tan Zheng, editor of Film Art magazine.
But it might also be lead actor Aamir Khan who is drawing in the crowds. While he’s famous for his appearance in 2009 comedy Three 《三傻大闹宝莱坞》, this time, he gets to show off his skills as a true actor.
Cao, a fan who says he has been watching Aamir, Khan’s movies for years said there are not enough films like Dangal in the Chinese market. He said he admires Khan for his dedication to his profession (how he lost and gained weight) and the effort he put into addressing a social cause through the film. In order to play a 55-year-old in the film, Khan gained 25 Kg. But he had to quickly shed it for the parts where he is required to look much younger.

A. A father unrealistic dream.
B. The daughters seek their champion dream.

B. respectable
C. honorable
D. fashionable

A. Three Idiots is his first movie.
B. To perform better, he put on weight more.
C. He performed an easy-going father in the movie.
D. He is dedicated to his role in the movie.

Obesity is a “rising pandemic(流行病)” afflicting 1 in 10 people around the world, causing health problems and premature deaths, according to a new study.
Obesity rates have risen over the last three decades in the 195 countries examined by the sweeping study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine on Monday. In more than 70 countries, including the United States, obesity rates at least doubled from 1980 to 2015. The world’s population of 7.5 billion no w includes more than 2 billion people who are overweight or obese, according to the study.
The study defines adult obesity as having a body mass index (BMI) — a number derived from weight and height — greater than 30, and overweight as having BMI of 25 to 29. Those definitions also are used by the National Institutes of Health. Using those measures, nearly 108 million children and 604 million adults are obese, according to the study.
Alarmingly, the study found that excess weight accounted for about 4 million deaths worldwide in 2015, a 28 percent increase in the global death rate since 1990. More than two-thirds were caused by cardiovascular disease. Diabetes was the second-leading cause of death.
Obesity rates jumped in both poor and wealthy countries, “wh ich indicates that the problem is not simply a fu nction of income or wealth,” the study says. The decline in activity preceded sharp increases in obesity, so that is unlikely to be a main cause, the authors noted. Instead, the study suggested that major drivers in the obesity trend are food systems and eating habits, including “increased availability, accessibility, and affordability of energy-dense foods, along with intense marketing of such foods.”
The authors of the study found that 39 percent of the 4 million deaths in 2015 occurred among people who were in the overweight BMI range and pointed to suggestions to lower obesity rates, but said those programs needed more evaluation. They had little optimism for the immediate future.
32. The underlined word “afflict’,in Paragraph 1 probably can be replaced by .
A. suffer
B. trouble
C. abandon
D. kill
33. What can we learn from Paragraph 2?
A. Obesity rates doubled from 1980 to 2015 in about 200 countries.
B. More than 2 billion people are obese around the world.
C. The study examined obesity rates in about 200 countries.
D. The US is not among the 195 countries examined by the study.
34. What is a main cause of obesity according to the study?
A. The decline in activity.
B. Lack of wealth.
C. Unhealthy eating habits.
D. Availability of healthy foods.
35. What would be the best title for this passage?
A. Rising Obesity Now Affects the Globe and Fuels Illness and Death
B. Suggestions on How to Lower Obesity Rates
C. Main Causes of Obesity
D. How to Use BMI to Define Obesity

M: You may ask your parents for help. But getting a part-time job is much better
than that.
Text 6

W: It’s because better education helps you get a good job.
M: But the sooner I leave school, the sooner I’ll get a job and start earni ng money. W: What does your teacher say about it?
M: Oh, the same as you.
W: Your dad was just the same as you when he was your age, but I managed to persuade him to stay on. He was glad in the end that he did.
Text 7
M: Mom, why don’t you take the car?
W: I can’t find the key to the garage. I’m not sure where I have put it.
M: What? Again? Mom, you really should learn to be more careful.

W: Actually I’m looking for birthday presents for them right now on the website. Come and have a look.
M: Great idea. If we shop on here, I don’t have to go down town for gifts.
W: Ye. It will definitely save us a lot of time. So what do you think of this one, the Rainbow in My Room? With this, kids can see a magical rainbow come to life. M: That sounds good. How much does it cost?
W: If we buy now, we can get a fi fty percent discount, so it’ll cost just 15 dollars. M: That’s really reasonable. Let’s buy it for Lisa.
W: But I think Tom will like it more. He is interested in science.
M: You are right. Let’s choose something else for Lisa.
W: How about this indoor doorbell? It lights up and sings songs whenever someone rings it.
M: That sounds great. How much does it cost?
W: 30 dollars.
M: Hmn…I’d like to find something cheaper. Let’s keep looking.
W: Ok.
Text 10
Americans are careful about how and when they meet one another’s eyes. In conversation, eye contact lasts only about a second. When two Americans look searching into each other’s eyes, emotions are lifted and the relationship becomes much closer. Therefore, they carefully avoid this, except in proper situations. Proper street behavior in the United States requires a nice balance of attention and inattention. You are supposed to look at a passer-by just enough to show that you are aware of his presence. If you look too little, you appear too proud, and
if you look too much, you are too curious. In England the polite listener stares at the speaker attentively and blinks his eyes occasionally as a sign of interest. That eye-blink says nothing to Americans, who expect the listener to nod or murmur something lik e “mm-hum”.
